@@blackkaiser6731It's much closer to Sunset Riders. I don't see any Ninja Gaiden here besides the commonality of having ninjas, but lots of video games have ninjas. It plays nothing like ninja gaiden.

They were clearly running out of ideas, lol, they've even re-used assets from that game - look at the sprites for the "Ninja Stars" he's throwing/enemy projectiles etc.
Nope. Much of this clearly influenced Power Rangers series for the SNES, both Mighty Morphin and The Movie.

This week (Dec 2023), Hamster is bringing a port to home consoles as part of its Arcade Archives series! 8 bucks. Judging from their past releases, the port is likely to be arcade-perfect... or better than arcade-perfect. About time!
This should’ve been a Saturday morning cartoon show.
That and/or an OVA that takes place before the game's events would've been cool too, so then we could see all five of the heroes in action.
Man, the music on this one is so good. I can clearly see the music of the ending in a van damme movie. The 90´s is such a great time for the games. But look it now...

I always enjoyed the music in the first level - I extracted it and played it over and over - lol.
I also liked the tribute to "Sunset Riders". The good old days of Konami.
howd you extract a mame song?
You can use a program called M1 Arcade Player. With it you can play music from most of the games in your Mame Roms folder, and you can also use it to extract and convert them to .wav files, wich are easily converted to .mp3 files. There's also a program called Audio Overload that can do the same thing with various console and computer games, and a program calles Sid Play, which does the same trick with Commodore 64 audio files!
Five years passed, but we don't have transparency and layer-fading support.
Stuff that's in the original PCB which, sadly, still isn't optimized for MAME.
It's a shame really. I'd love to play the mid 90's Konami run and gun/beat-em-ups the way they looked in the arcades.
It's like that for all of the games that use Mystic Warriors hardware, unfortunately. Often times the colors are washed out and there is no transition fading either.
One of the Mame devs told me that some of the Konami games of that time had very complex hardware, and used it in non-intuitive ways.

I must've overpaid for it then. Also unfortunately what's shown here is the mame version. Lots of graphical glitches, and the ending doesn't make sense without those graphical fading in and out effects.

Houston Helicopter Tours Inc. - not obscure to a retro/arcade enthusiast community and not obscure to the larger public are two very different things. I'd wager if you asked your average gamer if they'd played the X-Men or Simpsons arcade games, they'd respond in the affirmative, but I'd be amazed if 1/20 were aware of Sunset Riders, let alone this game (which I'd never heard of). I grew up in the eastern US in the late 80's, 90's and I've NEVER seen one of these machines, or even Sunset Riders, while I regularly encountered the Simpsons and X-men machines, so I doubt it was "widely distributed"

I would have played the hell out of a Super NES, Sega Genesis, and/or Sega CD console port of this game in the early to mid-'90s. Also, Yuri = love.

I don't recall seeing this game in American arcades 30 years ago. It's too bad that it was never ported to home consoles. The OST is excellent.

Konami has helluh GREAT ORIGINAL arcade games like Mystic Warriors, Gaiapolis, and others but they chose a stupid decision just to have a bunch of shooters and Castlevania. They had a Arcade Comp on the DS and it had more than shooters it had Yie ar Kung Fu, Pooyan, and a Racing game

I just discovered it this evening and it honestly blew me away. Placed me right back in the 90's. Amazing graphics and soundtrack.

a black dude in sunglases weilding monk beads like a weapon, does not make a ninja. this is definitely more of a group of people who thought. "if I wear something japanese looking, that will automatically make me a ninja, right?". its that kind of thinking that you might see from crappy fake ninja shows like naruto or ninja turtles.
Lmao. Old ninja turtle show from the late 80s wasn't crappy tho. It was a fun show for kids.
@@Tony_Cardoza it's crappy in the sense of inauthenticity. Was it fun and sometimes kind of ridiculous? Yes. But my main gripe with shows that I mentioned and a couple others are the total lack of some authors to even properly research what a ninja is or does, and just makes something vaguely martial arts related, and slaps on a ninja label because, "kids love ninjas, so if I call my characters ninjas, the kids will love my show, comic, game, etc." It's like me grabbing a random regular clothed person on the street, handing them a broadsword, and calling them a knight of Sir Arthur's round table.
