  • a film about the DFDS Seaways ferry Princess Seaways in service on the route IJmuiden - Newcastle.
In this film we are on a mini cruise with the Princess Seaways from IJmuiden to Newcastle in June 2012.
The Princess Seaways was built in 1986 as Peter Pan for the TT-Line shipping company for the Travemünde - Trelleborg route.
In September 1993 the Peter Pan was handed over to the shipping company Transport of Tasmania and renamed Spirit of Tasmania.
From November 1993 to September 2002 the Spirit of Tasmania was in service on the Devonport - Melbourne route.
In November 2002 the ship was sold to the shipping company Fjord Line and renamed Fjord Norway. The Fjord Norway was operated from April 2003 on the route Bergen - Haugesund - Egersund - Hanstholm and from November 2005 on the route Bergen - Stavanger - Newcastle.
In September 2006 the Fjord Norway was sold to the shipping company DFDS and renamed Princess of Norway.
The Princess of Norway continued to operate on the route Bergen - Stavanger - Newcastle until May 2007.
Since May 2007 the ship is in service on the route Newcastle - Ijmuiden. In February 2011 the ship was renamed Princess Seaways.

This ship was first delivered as "Peter Pan" on the route Trelleborg-Travemünde 1986-1993. The "King" was Nils Holgersson, sister to Peter Pan. Went with both of them several times when I was a child! :)

Great video with the very old ferry. At 11:34 you can clearly see the traces from TT Line, where this ferry started in 1986 as Peter Pan. In that time also fitted out with smimminig pool. At this ship's newer sisters Olau Hollandia (GNV Crystal) and Olau Britannia (GNV Atlas) you can see the traces with the text Olau. It is a pity that DFDS demolished the smoke deflector at the funnel.

Shape and look reminds me of the North Sea Ferries NORSUN, as a Kid i travelled several times over the channel with it.

What is odd to me is that All 4 sister Vessels have operated out of UK Ports not all at the same time sadly also at one point 3 of them could regularly be seen operating services on the western channel as "PRIDE OF PORTSMOUTH" & "PRIDE OF LE HAVRE" Were the ex Olau Ships and the "VAL DE LOIRE" was one of the TT Line ships the other went down under and became "SPIRIT OF TASMANIA"

Still prefer the King, only been on the Princess once and we were 3 hours late arriving in Ijmuiden as there was a engine problem

Why this old stuff? You must have more recent video's, I hope? The 'Discovery' went to the breakers yard 10 years ago!

The engines have been cared for very well, and ferries can usually stay in service for 45-50 years. At 36 years old, Princess Seaways can easily have another 10-15 years left, as long as she doesn't stay moored for too long and continues to be well cared for.
