I have to agree... I was a chef and in the business for 16 years.. I really like your content, Joel. You seem like a decent dude- and this is not a guilt trip or anything like that... but imagine you were the owner of the restaurant, how might you feel? ..all you can eat is not an easy thing to offer people.. margins are small in most restaurants and a couple people coming in and eating 10 times what most eat for the same price can eat up any money made on food that night.. from the entire night. seriously.. especially in places where the food is already affordable. if you prearranged it and only worked with places that were on board- it might be better for the long term (and I am sure that isn't always an easy conversation). Anyhow... like I said, I have always enjoyed your content and you have always had a great attitude and kept it fun. really hope this doesn't make me sound the jerk- just offering a POV..

"Two normal dudes". I love Joel and this was not a challenge that the restaurant set up. Restaurants have struggled over the last 2 years and they don't need professional eaters hitting them more. FFS- either professional eaters get into a partnership with them for marketing dollars or they refuse them entry. Joel and Scott were both assholes on this one.
I actually go to the Langley, B.C. location about once a month (although the most I can do is 2 big plates) for a cheat meal, they are always great in customer service- friendly and never intrusive!!!
Traditionally, you should have malt vinegar and salt. Tatar sauce and ketchup are optional. Pickled onions and pickled eggs are options also usually in large jars at the back of the shop along with mushy peas. You can have bread and butter and a cup of tea to complete the meal.
Scoot was right there with you. Didn't tap out super early or nuin 💝 brotherly love right there. All you can eat, no cut offs or kicked out. That's awesome!!! Big ups to that restaurant 😁.

Tarter sauce is ok on fried fish, but if you like a nice homemade cocktail sauce, all you need is a spoon full of horseradish sauce and a squeeze of ketchup... to your liking of course. I like it spicy... like wasabi on sushi... for me tons of wasabi on top of the roll and just a little soy sauce to dip it in.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, when someone like you walks into an AYCE restaurant you should announce yourself and give them a realistic expectation of your threshold and give the restaurant owner a fair opportunity to not serve you. Everyone knows you aren't the typical "AYCE" customer which is what they expect. You should be responsible and make the expectations clear BEFORE YOU SIT DOWN.

I could not disagree with you more. The restaurant set the price and the terms. All you can eat, this is the price. End of story. It is up to the restaurant to set their own restrictions on their offer. Example 16.99 all you can eat or 20 pieces. It is not up to the customer to forewarn the restaurant. Besides if you understood business, the few dollars they lost on Joel and his friend, and that's all it was was a few dollars, they will make back 50 to 100 times over in the goodwill they generated by honoring their all you can eat policy.

I grew up putting vinegar on my fish and that is still how I LOVE IT also some ketchup. I haven't really found a tartar sauce that I really like

It is up to the restaurant to set their own restrictions on their offer. Example 16.99 all you can eat or 20 pieces. It is not up to the customer to forewarn the restaurant. Besides if you understood business, the few dollars they lost on Joel and his friend, and that's all it was was a few dollars, they will make back 50 to 100 times over in the goodwill they generated by honoring their all you can eat policy.

All you can eat means all you can eat, and they would have to bring in a law allowing them a fair use disclaimer to set any limits. Until they do that, they don't have any such rights. I like my fish with tartar sause, ketchup and vinegar and with lemon, any and or all of the above in any combo... Siracha/Franks/Louisiana, with mayo is good too.
Ketchup and tarter sauce is my go to now...legit because you so legit thank you I never thought about mixing that!!
