    Hey Folks! Welcome back to the channel. In this part one of the video series, I'll show the first half of how to replace timing chains on the 3.6L in our 2007 Cadillac CTS. We had to replace the timing chains because of codes P0008 and P0017. Be sure to subscribe and hit the bell to get notified when part two comes out. The 3.6L (Alloytec, high feature, HFV6) motor also came in the Cadillac SRX, STS, GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave, and Chevy Malibu, among others.

    Watched parts 1 and 2 multiple times. These and a couple other videos helped a great deal in replacing timing chains for my 2008 Cadillac CTS 3.6L. It had 141k miles on it so I replaced the oil pump and water pump while I was at it. Great videos and thanks for documenting your project.

    Great video. Thanks so so much for posting. Really took your time and were super patient with all the explanations. I have 2010 cts4 with about 35k miles. And it just started to give me a blinking check engine light at about 75-80mph on the freeway which I drive daily to work for about 20 miles each way. Runs a bit rough at the same time. I'll slow down a bit and everything returns to normal. I have a sneaky suspicion I'll be doing this same thing sooner than later. So...anyway Thanks again for taking the time to post. Super helpful.

    Thanks for the video. I used this to replace the chains in my 2010 CTS. There are some slight differences in the newer ones, Intake manifold is different, Harmonic balancer requires a 3 jaw, and the front cover is a little different. But this video does point you in the right direction. The biggest difference and mistake I made was buying the 50273 valve cover gasket set he recommends. The left side is different so only one of them worked for my application, my fault I should have done my homework on the gaskets before ordering and not assumed they were the same.

    Hey man, great video. In my opinion, the best one I have seen so far. I just want to mention that the Cloyes timing chain set only works for the 07 CTS 3.6 with the Second Design Engine Only. After starting this job on my 07 CTS 3.6 I noticed that my chains and sprockets were completely different from yours. As per Cloyes themselves, they only make chains for the 07 CTS 3.6 with the Second Design Engines.

    I have a gasket problem. Oil is getting on the driver side number 2 spark plug. Causing a single misfire. Q? Is it possible to take out the driver side cylinder head without removing all of the timing chain. How can I just remove that side timing chain shoes and tensioner? Just enough to loosen the chain to get the head off put on a new gasket. Slap it back together. Shade tree Style. Awesome video. Thanks.

    Same codes on my 08 cts. Just put new brakes on all around last week. Car runs completely fine. No noise. No performance issues. Terrible time for me to get this fixed or buy something else. What’s your opinion on running a little heavier oil / or / driving softly and making sure I have a lot of oil? Do I have a chance? Pulled sensors and cleaned them. But codes came back. Haven’t tried replacing yet. Would you try that first as well? This level of mechanic is wayyy over my head/ garage to do this myself. I wish!

    • @DevJB
      @DevJB 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The front of the valve covers have 2 plastic shields that the cam sensor wires are tucked through the window.. These 2 shields, covers or harness mounts, (1 each side) has a locking tab at its bottom edge that you can stick a flat-head screwdriver into and twist it lightly to unlock it (then pull it straight upward 1 inch to loosen.. You should be able to see this little locking tab from the face side of them with a flashlight. (I call them cam sensor covers, but really its there for the 'ECM1 harness' mounting.)
      P.S I have some vid's going on my channel recently about the LY7 3.6 which has a 2 4 6 misfire and no other codes, whereas; I show these cam covers and I give some details about the ECM1 harness while its on a table. tc : )

      I think the best way to diagnose would be with a fancy scan tool. Otherwise, if you have a P0008 or P0017, replace the camshaft position sensors, but the codes don't go away, it's probably a good assumption that its the chains.

      I am no expert , but before I would year it down again , I would find a high end tech who knows how to use a lab scope and pay to have it analyzed . IATN may have a list . Bernie Thompson from ATS - Automotive Training Solutions -may also have shops that use his scopes . Be careful which parts are going in there . They can show you if the chains are off a tooth or stretched . This is not for a grease pit with hammers and screwdrivers or a $ 100 code reader . Good Luck .
