is this necroposting? ? eh, ytmp3.cc is the site i use most frequently, but it only takes videos under 2 hours long for videos longer than 2 hours i use y2mate.com :D
I think it is vitally important that kids, maybe 9th grade and up, learn that hard work and effort dont always result in rewards. I learned a valuable lesson when i got rejected from not just my first choice but all of the PhD programs i applied to. It really messed me up, i kept wondering what more i could have done. 4.0 university GPA, president of the Psychology Honors society, etc etc. I eventually emailed some of the program directors for feedback, and they all essentially said the same thing "It was a year of tough competition and we had lots of candidates already holding Masters degrees." Life isn't fair and hard work isn't always rewarded, i think kids need to learn. For one part, i think it helps them learn that things happen and failure isn't necessarily all their fault.
Grey to Flight attendant (39:12) "When does Comic Relief season end?" And they looked at me and said "It doesn't end. This is just the new safety video...forever." Does this remind you of Black Mirror "White Christmas" Episode?
Regarding Grey's comment about a line between premeditated and impulsive... According to www.duhaime.org/LegalDictionary/P/Premeditation.aspx : Premeditation means the defendant formed the specific intent to kill the victim for some period of time, however short, before the actual killing. However, the big one that is usually the line between First and Second Degree murder is the Deliberation requirement: Deliberation means that the intent to kill was formed while defendant was in a cool state of blood and not under the influence of a violent passion suddenly aroused by sufficient provocation. Therefore, according to criminal law (According to duhaime.org), Brady's purchase of the phone was, indeed, premeditated. Which implies that it is, indeed, not an impulse purchase. Just thought you might find it interesting. Cuz I just had to go look it up after it was mentioned...
For _various_ easons, I couldn't listen to this on my phone, so I looked it up on TH-cam for simpleness. Turns out they have some lovely Antarctica footage here, so win for me. Love this pod.
33:53 I don't know if you ever said it anywhere _before_ this episode, but you did end up saying it again later, in the first episode of The Numberphile Podcast. I listened to that long before this, so to me that was your first time saying it. I really loved it, so it was cool to hear it again here.
I'm from Argentina, glad you Brady got to enjoy some of "our" land :) C'mon Gray, dare for it. Life experiences man. I'd be glad to tour you during a stop in Buenos Aires . Yes the albatross flag is actually quite good, and the "sun of May" flag, with the human face, is quite symbolic, you've just got to admit.
The open discussion of this topic actually gave me hope. As an insufferably depressed unpartnerable unmotivated person, who is smart enough and pretty Enough to meet societies arbitrary objectives, I can now point people to this theory.
I came just for the Antarctic footage. Not disappointed. This will probably get way more viewers than the usual HI on TH-cam. It will also create an interesting retention graph of how quickly people get bored of looking at Antarctica
Yeah, well, it was known since late 2016, or for anyone who knows a bit about IT, basically since Facebook exists, but nobody ever cared. Now there is this scandal, and I can only hope that Facebook will grow less and less important, because they are really nasty privacy killers (not CA, they only used the means given to them by FB and their "no privacy" mindset)
Hahaha, I like how you said The Instagram in the way that people will add "the" for things they don't understand very well. For example, how do logon to The Facebook?
What i like the most about this podcast, is that somehow I don't feel so disconnected to the world knowing that these two individuals somehow survive in it far more disconnected than me.
25:00 hard work doesn't pay off by itself, but since it's valued highly in society you get some benefits from it - whether it's a little empathy from people for your misfortune, or something along those lines. But yeah, hard work does not guarantee success lol.
That book was release 2 months after this podcast was uploaded to TH-cam, this might be another one of those weird coincidences where is seems like HI had a real life affect. lol
One of the big things with krill is that humans are now harvesting them on a large scale for the vitamin industry. And the humans are taking so much that it is decreasing the total biomass of krill.
I think when it comes to murder, premeditated means with deliberate intention. If I get in a fight and hit someone with a bottle and they die, it's murder. If I meant to kill them, it's premeditated. If I was just fighting without actually trying to kill them, it's still murder, just not premeditated.
After seeing the name of this video I started looking forward to the next Grey's video. I've recently read Harari's Sapiens and Homo Deus and I'm interested in what CGP can say about the intersubjective reality, which can be labeled as lies.
But taking pictures with iPad is so handy when you have that giant screen to view from! I mean it's a lot harder to see if something is focused from small phone screen. (unless you of course have one of the larger ones) I've always liked taking pics on my iPad. Of course I never do it in public so I have to take dozens of pics with my phone in hopes that maybe few of them are in focus.
so you get the surprising package from the shop? in case you did not understand that reference, you probably did not yet read "Quality land" from Marc Uwe Kling yet. if you did not, that is a mistake.
It's almost funny how much of an improvement that recut trailer was over the official woman. And I totally agree with Grey about the amount of impact music can have - it reminds me of a couple years ago when the first couple trailers for Suicide Squad came out, and the fact that those trailers were so well cut to really good music made the movie look way more interesting than it actually was.
I remember watching a video about how movie soundtracks are getting very boring and just reusing old movie songs. Sadly can't find it right now, nor can I remember the name.
I wanna call bullshit on the idea that “hard work isn’t rewarded” Because hard work on a case to case project to project is perhaps not rewarded But in the long run, yes, it is If you didn’t work hard your shows wouldn’t have been successful. The occasional success of your hard work is propped up by the success of your lesser work. If you didn’t work hard in the first place you’d get nowhere. As an artist I don’t get annoyed when a shitty sketch gets huge attention because it gets attention. It gets followers, eyeballs, a whole new group of possible customers for commissions. But if I didn’t post or draw art that took hard work I wouldn’t be able to capitalize on the successes of the occasional piece that blows up
I agree completely similarly about the ready player one trailer- the fact that all the parts inside the OASIS are going to be animated seems to take away from the way the OASIS worked, it was supposed to be visually identical to real life
While on the topic of obnoxious abbreviations, I find the usage of the word "sus" as an abbreviation for "suspicious" to be unacceptable and one step below criminal.
I hope nobody came here because of the title because they seem to have just acknowledged that lies necessary for civilization exist and should not be discussed. If you like the Antarctic coastline, you're in luck.
Isn't the reason for the debate as to whether or not the president can block citizens of the United States related to a clause in the United States? Something or other than states that the president has to listen to what the people say to at least some degree?
That Sabotage trailer was pretty damn cool, though Sabotage feels like one of those songs that's used way to much in things. Nothing against the song, it's just a very consistent pick for movie related fair. Also I wouldn't recommend reading Ready Player One, Grey. Unless you're interested in reading an author insert whose soul purpose is to beat you over the head with how much 80's trivia he knows wrapped in a mediocre at best story it probably won't be for you. There are worse books for people to get attached to, but it's glowing reception leads me to believe people need to read more.
I really don’t understand the one person that disliked this podcast... this is amazing. I do think people should be able to express their opinion, but the dislike button can’t give constructive criticism. Only “ I don’t like this.” instead of a “Why I don’t like this podcast...” I just personally think the dislike button isn’t a good way to tell a creator to improve their content. Also I’m sorry for ranting like this.
Writing even just a single funny joke on the internet takes years of unnoticed effort: Good luck writing anything if you don’t know any language, or how to read and write. The effort you”ll find the most rewarding is placed in the tasks that follows the river.
23:16 That is where the discussion on "Necessary lies of civilization" starts.
Shownotes for episode 100
- Grey's new wooden cutlery
- Brady's new Pixel and Smartwatch (With Lulu for scale)
- The Mighty Black Stump rubble
- Brady proudly flying Flaggy Flag during his visit to SpaceX
- Grey enjoying a good face-licking from Mr Chompers
- Grey at the cricketball without Brady

We can expect this to arrive April 1st and for Brady and Grey to agree on everything during the episode.
You also must get dark of Wimbledon in there with the duke
Don’t forget the mr chompers and Audrey bubble fight
I am horrified.
Thank you, Brady, for all the work you did to provide us with excellent footage from your Antarctic vacation.
nice pfp
Fr
I was just gonna listen to the mp3, but I have to watch the Antarctica footage.
Would you please tell me how do you download this conversation?

I'm loving the frequent uploads
☠️
Hard work is not rewarded. Chance, determination, and perseverance are.
I really like having visuals of nature to accompany the audio.
So close too episode 100!
and I just spotted "to" spelt wrong....
Denick B. Should've just said r/unexpected factorials tbh.
Just by chance I clicked on the TH-cam notification instead of my podcast app for this show. So glad I did, Antarctica is beautiful 😀
When left alone for long enough, Hydrogen starts to wonder where it came from.
Try to wrap your head around that...
TheScott10012 what
Rhine We duh hydrogen
the universe is gas! but it's getting closer together...
I wonder if wonder will wonder one day where wonder came from. I need a nap...
It's just like wondering how the universe came to be... so what's your point?

Ethrel1024 But it was a second degree premeditated purchase, not first degree.

49:30 "he can smell ice", I freaking died at those words hahaha
This should’ve been named “pink and tiny, green and slimy”
Yea
The open discussion of this topic actually gave me hope. As an insufferably depressed unpartnerable unmotivated person, who is smart enough and pretty Enough to meet societies arbitrary objectives, I can now point people to this theory.

This came out at just the perfect time as I need to make my dinner! Cheers for that!
Oh man Antarctica is just gorgeous!
They're like a god damn couple!!!
Edit: this one is so reminiscent of the early days of HI!!! Loving this one!!
Too bad this wasn't recorded in time for the Cambridge Analytica debacle (or the Facebook debacle, as I like to call it) to make it into the show.
Yeah, well, it was known since late 2016, or for anyone who knows a bit about IT, basically since Facebook exists, but nobody ever cared. I don't quite understand why everyone seems to be surprised. It's exactly what data privacy advocates have been warning about for decades.
For my personal reference: 19:00 23:00
1:00:25
Yay! I love these H.I. Podcasts! (don't worry Grey, I won't call them "Pods") Thank you for making them, they are always fun to listen to!
Earlier today I was thinking it has been a while since last episode. I went checking if I had missed one, but I hadn't. And here you are now.
Hello from 2021.
what happened to podcastpostcards
so this is what you listen to while you make bird memes
probobly
big fan
You're a Tim?!?!
Hahaha, I like how you said The Instagram in the way that people will add "the" for things they don't understand very well. For example, how do logon to The Facebook?
The trip to antarctica reminds me of the anime "A Place Further than the Universe"
I remember when this episode came out, I think it's one of the best.
Will the frequent uploads be interrupted for the 10 hour HI #100?
beautiful footage, check out the sleeping bear in the LH side of the iceberg @ 6:35
Brady has a great and humble comment at 21.00 that I wish more people felt about power in general.
I was wondering what grey's been up to for several months.. those time lapse videos are nice and essential for these videos.
I like Howard at the beginning there was this 10 Episodes Idea and now we you are at nearly 100, keep up the Great work
*how
It sounds like a dog is either being squeezed or deflated at the end
Was it the Penguin?
First time this is released while I'm awake!
same
still waiting for the book!
when is "The necessary lies of society" going to be the inevitable bestseller I expect it to be?
There is a book (hasn't come out yet) called "The Curious Life of Krill: A Conversation Story from the Bottom of the World" by Stephen Nicol
That book was release 2 months after this podcast was uploaded to TH-cam, this might be another one of those weird coincidences where is seems like HI had a real life affect. lol
Yeah, they still haven't uploaded. but your relistening to the show like I am to pass the time
One of the big things with krill is that humans are now harvesting them on a large scale for the vitamin industry. And the humans are taking so much that it is decreasing the total biomass of krill.
I usually listen to this on my mobile device so I don't get to see the TH-cam clip. Job redundancy you have truly blessed me on this fine day.
I laughed way too hard about the statement "I read a whole audiobook on Cod"
"He can smell ice" 49:35
Hahaha, love this phrase
Quality pod boys! Goodluck podding in the future.
Tom Clothier I love this pod!

So how was your trip to a place further than the universe Brady? (i'm sure you answer in the video but i felt like asking anyway!)
I was listening while doing something else, and that penguin at the end really freaked me out.
After seeing the name of this video I started looking forward to the next Grey's video. I've recently read Harari's Sapiens and Homo Deus and I'm interested in what CGP can say about the intersubjective reality, which can be labeled as lies.

The moment Brady mentions that not everybody is meant for someone, I thought of Louis CK's joke right away.
How well has that remark aged?
so you get the surprising package from the shop?
in case you did not understand that reference, you probably did not yet read "Quality land" from Marc Uwe Kling yet.
if you did not, that is a mistake.
beautiful footage, brady!

when I went to see Antarctica and I kept thinking.... "we should have a starbucks there"
“A+ for the second trailer
A thoroughly mediocre score for the first” few of the times i’ve heard Grey to be so wittily savage xD
That penguin at the end :3

Hardwork is statistically rewarded , that's why you diversify ...

Crossing the Atlantic for 20 days on a 30ft sailboat definitely is an experience that changes the way you look at the world
23:15 could not agree more with you guys 24:05
I would 100% take a holiday to Adelaide just to see the museum.
I know this is a bit of a old topic but you should talk about China’s sesame credits it’s worth a look
Dudes! Why you no upload this to the web page?
for movie soundtracks there is Hans Zimmer and there are a handful of others, thats it.
I really don't appreciate the cards at the end covering up the penguin footage.
Friend of the show - Grey
Podding - Brady
Almost at episode 100? Will viewers be getting another classic episode?
I've been on an economy flight for 14 hours. I did feel rather close to my terminus (haha, get it?).
I hope nobody came here because of the title because they seem to have just acknowledged that lies necessary for civilization exist and should not be discussed. If you like the Antarctic coastline, you're in luck.
There are UK entrapment laws
source: I saw it on a soap opera called the thin blue line
Francis Lai wasn't that a sitcom?
Yes
Isn't the reason for the debate as to whether or not the president can block citizens of the United States related to a clause in the United States? Something or other than states that the president has to listen to what the people say to at least some degree?
Technically we should already be at episode 100, but still, I'm excited for "#100".
They have a 0?
I am happy I stayed to the end.
Tim reporting in after only 17 minutes!
Yep, 5:50 - the point at which I check out of the video and come back in an hour and a half when you're done talking about phones.
Duke from the Vatican? You are pushing the boundaries Brady. 1:19:24.
That Sabotage trailer was pretty damn cool, though Sabotage feels like one of those songs that's used way to much in things. Nothing against the song, it's just a very consistent pick for movie related fair.

I loved when they ask "an android phone?. He was non even close
Is the ship Le Boreal?
i hope they seized on the downturn in office space to start the HI museum!

I'd say that there is someone out there for everyone(probably more than one), you're just statistically unlikely to ever meet them
"Necessary" lies, eh? Q - Serving WHOSE interests?

"HE CAN SMELL ICE!" I almost died : )
so close to 100!!
you start overdoing it with the ads, i think
Yeah give little Brady a bottle of champagne
the penguin sound freaked me out
Anyone else not seeing the reddit post for this episode?
