I think it's awesome seeing these amazing dances in a dress and heels! And don't even get me started about how I adore them using their BODIES to make music WHILE they're doing these crazy dances! I just discovered Romani dancing today and it's beautiful ❤️

@@y45k66 you do realize roma people are all over the world and have mixed in and assimilated in with all Different cultures in their various locations ? There is no one roma 'look' my family on my dad's side is spanish roma (gitana/cigana) mixed with African American, and they speak calo Spanish which is a mix of Spanish, roma, and even has some Moroccan loaner phrases. My mom's side is mixed Cornish Romany, Welsh traveller , and scottish
There is no one roma language , yes romanichib is the most widely accepted language of roma, but it's not the only one. When roma people came to america they often hid the fact they were rom , because they were afraid of being discriminated against , so there are a lot of American rom who are genetically rom , but they didn't get a chance to be raised in their culture, it doesn't make them any less roma. The only way our culture has survived this long, genetically speaking is because we mixed in with local cultures over the years, In Spain at one point there were laws saying rom couldn't marry and mix with other rom, it's disturbing and wrong but some groups had to mix with outside cultures if they wanted to carry on their bloodlines. We cannot end racism with more racism, you cannot rightfully say that Remington is not roma. I am fortunate enough that I have met my cousins in the UK and they're teaching me their language and embracing me even tho I am not fully romany I'm also gitana and several other gadjo races , not everyone is this lucky, if her dna says she is rom, then that is what she is ...no hate

My Great Grandfather was Romany who fled from Europe to America in the 30s to escape nazi persecution. He unfortunately never discussed our ancestry much due to the fear of being discriminated against if we were revealed to be of "gypsy" blood and changed his name therefore so much of our heritage was lost. I wish I knew of Rom who were interested in getting to know me so that i may get to know my culture better. From one traveler to the next, may our paths cross one day so that we may break bread together and share stories of places and times past.

Similar story, here. My great grandmother was a baby in the late 1800s, her family moved to the US and died when she was just a few years old. They were fleeing growing persecution in Austria-Hungary at the time. She was adopted by a French-American couple, and they taught her to hide being adopted AND being Roma. My cousins and I started tracing things out and have found some of our Romani cousins online, which has been wonderful!

There is many Romani from Ireland. However, this is likely some sort of crosshair from Indian dancing as well- since that is mainly where the Romani come from (genetically, at least). From a proud Romani, much love. However it is interesting to think about the connection, and maybe I myself am getting some things wrong.

greetings to the Roma people in Iraq. In an unknown way, they learned the culture of the Sumerians and the Ishtar/Inanna dance for fertility, bringing rain and warding off bad luck, or the dagger dance, which has now become international. They were oppressed, kind, and respected. Many of them joined the Arabs, the Kurds, or the Turkmen. The Kurds, 50% of them, have Gypsy origins in Iraq and Syria. One of them had a huge crush on her and she liked him too but the point is..he taught her some words, slang and "proper" words which apparently is a huge no no. Regardless of what kind of travelers or where specifically from I've always found interesting and pretty fascinating. It is unfortunate how there's such a stigma that many won't even admit it or pass down parts of their culture. That technically can be applied to any and every culture tho.
