I’m from a soul & reggae background. But in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s I really liked Joe Jackson. A really talented musician, singer-songwriter, who studied music for many years and toured the small club circuit before making it big. He covers a wide genre of music: pop, rock, jazz, new wave, punk and even classical. He also sings with real soul. This is a brilliant New wave pop song, but sung with soul and with a punk attitude. Greatly unrated and one of the most talented British musicians for his generation!! 👌🏽
Saw Joe at Roundhay Park,Leeds in around August 1982,Rolling Stones were headlining,J Giles band and Joe support, man he was the best act on that day,it was 80degrees and by the time the Stones came on everyone was burnt to death & just wanted to go home! Two days after I emigrated to Australia, but went back to Roundhay the day after the gig to watch them cleaning up,I was with the love of my life that day & when I returned to UK 2 years later we never go back together, complicated,Lizi still is the love of my life & every time I hear Joe sing, anywhere it kills me that I didn’t try harder to get Lizi back. Its Covid time & I guess lots of us are remembering or regretting stuff, I hope I survive,I hope Lizi survives,l still have room in my heart for her.
Riley2018~ No he's not...he's very well thought of,and will always be tied in with the pre -post new wave/ punk era of The late 70's....Great performance from the band and Joe...There is lots of Joe Jackson on TH-cam....check it out! WBCN in Boston championed Joe when this came out,and was a smash with university kids...WBCN had a lot of college listeners in 1979....
I saw Joe Jackson in concert at a later time at Berkeley's Greek Theater. They did his new wavish songs towards the end of the show. When the clapping started, Mr. Jackson interrupts and graciously asks the audience, "If you are going to clap, do it in time, you are dragging a bit". Well, he became my favorite ever since!!!
Love Joe Jackson’s look sharp, I was kid in rural WY listening to the album over and over ...lol not something the rest of my friends were listening to or probably knew about. But I loved it, and when I hear a song from that album it takes me back to my room with pink shag carpet singing along..just 10 yrs old 😊👍🏻
5000 GREAT SONGS Michael's Selection recording music from the radio on a tape deck was the best! It meant so much to me as a kid. My tape recorder only had one speaker yet the music sounded soooo good.
I grew up in the 80s and this song was unique and a awesome sing a long and Joe and his band are unbelievably awesome and underated music totally different in the 60 70 80 we're the greatest for rock jamming now grudge in the nineties great also but music in earlier years I think was the best
Oh, the angst of being single and looking for love ! lol ! gone are the days though when all it took to look cool was to wash our hair, eh ? talented Joe, especially at 4.18+ when he is on the piano.
someone claimed I reminded him of this guy a year or so ago and I thought and spoke "the Stepping Out song?" which I knew and just listened to prior but now I see it better. my hair was really short back then.
Thanks so much for posting this great quality version of this song. Much appreciated from this end... Getting tougher to find quality stuff on "The Tube" these days, and stumbling across something like this makes all the time separating the wheat from the chaff worth the hassle and wait. Cheers...
Two dislikes?!?!? Must be two of those gorrillas out walkin down the street with the pretty women that you know we all deserve more than them. Joe rocks!!!
of course :( just the same but if sometimes you really love her, it'll never matter besides. i know "it's different for girls", but i never falt "i'm the man". mean : joe's not my fave in music, but so evocative in what every average old punk has been living. keep rockin' and hopin'. no future, but love

This is one of the best pop songs ever EVER!

my favorite Joe Jackson song
Joe is the most underrated artist of his generation. god how i love his music
So young.......and weren't we all......? Proof you don't need to be ridiculously handsome - just sing your bloody heart out.
panther105 music has been destroyed lately with the likes of Simon Cowell plying his shitty trade for looks over talent ffs
Singing his heart out makes him ridiculously handsome to me!
I think he was attractive... Also extremely talented

a genuine 100% Jackson, no special effects, just a rawness that touched myself and many a young fellow in their formulative years, great
Such an underrated performer! I ♥ Joe Jackson!

Yes this Joe Jackson is still very underrated!!!
Just home from watching Joe at a sold out Ritz in Manchester UK, he and the band were superb. They did this gem and it was fantastic
You lucky!
This song is such a timeless classic. Joe Jackson is one heck of a great musician/singer and performer. :)
I WANT MY MTV 1981 - Summer 1985 !! my High School days . !!
Man, was music good when I was young.
Soundtrack to my youth. God bless Joe Jackson

guys like Joe made the 80's great

Kristi Clark the music from this period takes me back to so many wonderful and innocent places. I wish I could hop into a time machine.
I recorded the concert on the radio in 1980 with a tape recorder. I always loved it.

great performance...this song is one of the 1980s classics

Ha!
Love it
One of the best from the 80s
You're the best Joe!
He looks like a cross between Johnny Rotten, Simply Red and Rick Astley. Great tune!
Agreed. I think Rotten dominates, though.
Joe. Jackson is adorable period!
@@blackholeman yeah, never really thought about it, but he kind of does look like Lydon (but not like the other two)
Can't see Rick being too chuffed about that!
To me I think he looks like Billy Corgin, the lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins, before going bald
Joe Jackson was INCREDIBLE! Sadly, he did not have the looks for a new MTV age. Sadly, MTV does not even play music anymore. Sign of the times?
Fantastic times at Lindum ave ...this great music brings it all back xxx
Now that's music!! Real and live
I saw him live 5 years ago...best show i ever saw
one of the most relevant accessibly songs ever written
one of the 80s top three artist--the other two: Elvis Costello and the Smiths
Sublime stuff + killer bass line...
He is still amazing today, 2017.
I love this song and the band... even tho in 1983ish, they stood us up without an encore. Still, this guy is an awesome musical artist!
JOE JACKSON est une légende.... magnifique !!! en plus ça ma rappelle les plus années...
This is a great concert! I am really partial to his early stuff, but I love all his music.
I saw him do this 'a capella' with his band - truly excellent! Nice to find this version. Thanks for posting it.
Hatfield Poly had so many nascent bands at this time. I was at this gig and saw The Police here too.
Great voice, and as usual he's also a looker. Mrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrow.
does she does it, Joe and his band at his best! Love u forever!!
Insuperable ! 2021 y ni me canso de encucharles
great live performance! interesting how the bass line matured from this to the radio version.
+ilove puna This was taped 2 years after the single was released
+Eddie Bentley thanks for the correction!
Absolutely magic x
Seen him in 81 in Amsterdam , still a great song and performance!
This is deffo the best rendition of this song, luv it
I have always loved this song!!!
I got to see him live last year in 2017. He's still got it!
Graham Maby is such an excellent bass player.
Wow great version as he really lets go !
What a great song and vocals
Love this song, and Joe😍
I Love Joe Jackson!
oooh ... a rare Gibson RD sighted in the hands of Joe's guitarist! A pity the cameras pretty much ignored him.
Great song from a great era!
Just fabulous
Great stuff thank y'all
Even back then he chuckles when the audience says "Where?"
someone claimed I reminded him of this guy a year or so ago and I thought and spoke "the Stepping Out song?" which I knew and just listened to prior but now I see it better. my hair was really short back then.
The great Graham Maby on bass kills it
Love this version. Addicting lol
How can you not love JJ . . . . . incredible talent.
Very under rated. Such a pity Joe didn't make it here in the UK.
Amazing performance
wow, those were the times. Great video . :)
Does it get any better?
Joe got moves like no other!
Thanks so much for posting this great quality version of this song. Much appreciated from this end... Getting tougher to find quality stuff on "The Tube" these days, and stumbling across something like this makes all the time separating the wheat from the chaff worth the hassle and wait. Cheers...

The beginning sounds like ACE "How Long".
I kept waiting for Paul Carrack to come out and take the mic from him.

Couldn't have said it better myself. :)

Dit blijf en toppert👍
playing top five of Joe Jackson check it out....
That is classic
yes Joe,you look smooth
if you were gonna get peanut butter tonight, joe is the crunchy AND creamy smooth.
SORRY FOR THE LOSS, GRAHAM, GOD BLESS!
and the tragedy is that if he were trying to get somewhere now the likes of Simon Cowell would destroy him at the first audition
I sincerely doubt it
well to be fair Joes greatness comes from his songwriting, not his singing ability
@@LarsUlrichIsMe I think his failure in the Cowell era would have been his look.
Yes, she's really going out with him. :(
of course :( just the same but if sometimes you really love her, it'll never matter besides. i know "it's different for girls", but i never falt "i'm the man". mean : joe's not my fave in music, but so evocative in what every average old punk has been living. keep rockin' and hopin'. no future, but love
its heart breaking
