Happy Sunday, Jenna! While you were collecting snow in your Crocs, I was out mowing the grass for the second time this year. That's right, February was so warm everything bloomed a month ahead of schedule and now that we're into March it's like we're going back into Winter again. It was in the mid 60's today but the forecasters talk of it getting progressively colder the further we get into March. Say what? Ugh. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to put off the 90's as long as possible but I don't want to be in the 30's when I walk Layla in the morning before sunrise in April! I should be thankful for it anyway considering all the suffering going on in the world today. I believe you're approaching the end of your search to solve your electrical issues. Sounds as if you're on the right path to electrical harmony. Good job! Rob in N.C.

Wow, mowing grass in February here is unheard of, haha. I dont think people mow here until June! Well hopefully you don't get the cold snap it's calling for, and I'm hoping that we don't get any more snow. I would love to dewinterize by the end of the month but we shall see

Looking at your generator the plug you are currently using is a 20 amp. States it right above the plug on the generator. With the new adapter you are getting you will be plugging into a 30 amp plug. This should help you with your fridge problem.

I got the wind generator up. It rained three and a half inches of rain as soon as I got it done. I just now ordered two more 100 watts HQST solar panels for the West side of the barn. I think the wind generator is 12 volts...ugh... I'll use it as is on part of the battery bank and see what happens. I think it is wound with aluminum wire so I may have to rewind it with copper for 24 volts. It looks nice, and spins well, though, lol. I think you have to get the 48 volts one to get 24 volts. And of course that one is higher price. The stuff nobody tells you until after you bought it. The two things I need are running late according to Amazon. The battery acid and the propane torch. So I bought another propane torch and waiting for the other one. It's flooded here. I ruined my shoes, and had to go to Walmart. The top four inches of ground are like soup. I would make ruts if I tried to drive out. But I have food and wood. I had a thousand watts of solar panels out today, making eight watts. But I turned the inverter charger off while I went to town and saved twenty six watts. Probably rain or snow today. Funny thing. Wind didn't blown all day yesterday. I think it's supposed to after while. I never got to get the readings, the wind quit right after I got it put up. The struggle for off grid energy, lol. It sounds like I should have a lot, but some days, it's pretty thin. Today was a borderline gas generator day, almost used it.

March "In like a lion, out like a lamb" lets hope.
Same problem with vibration keeping plug in portable generator. I brace my plug in with anything long enough to reach plug to ground. Block of wood, pail of water, 2x4.
Not good when plug disconnects on it's own. Arcing will eventually ruin generator receptacle or at very least make a poor connection. Keep your plug prongs dry, clean with a lite sanding.
Agreed. RV store pricing is out of this world. Seasonal businesses usually are.
Amazon is good but sometimes they ship things that you didn't order. Happened twice so far. Takes over a month to get refunded, plus the hassle having to send it back.
    Good luck Jenna.

I sure hope you got all this figured out. I went through some of the same things. Maybe the plug is vibrating out of the hole. Generators vibrate a lot. Also, those adapters get old after use and don't always get good connection, especially with the vibration.

I have the hole dug for the wind generator base. I have to concrete it in. I'm welding the flange to the pole. I'll get it up tomorrow or the next day. Oh, forgot, it's 72 degrees today, and of course, windy. Winter storm and cold air coming again. I'm going to get two more solar panels, 100 watts each, so 1400 watts. I can't run it all except having morning and evening panels. Plus the wind generator's output. I want to get it up but there may be ice storm blizzard conditions coming, so I can wait if I have to. Darn it though. It's windy, lol. I held it up the other day after I got the blades on, and it got going fast so I had to turn it sideways. Took a long time to stop. The center of the blades will be 18 1/2 feet up. I have to get it solid. 29.2 volts @ 5 amps at 4:30 p.m. The twenty marine batteries got a good charge today. They dropped to 25.2 yesterday after sundown. The battery acid hasn't gotten here yet to tune them up with. Well good luck with the rest of the day. The first wind generator that I was going to get was going to be $1700, but I got it down to $550 for this one. It was a funny joke on my uncle, I had already planned to get the wind generator, but about five or six weeks ago, he looked at my system, and said, that I had everything but a wind generator. I said, Okay, I'll get one. So about a week later I ordered one. Showed up a few days later, uncle says I have a big box on the porch. I'm upgrading while I have permission to...so there ain't gonna be no, when ya gonna get one, lol. I didn't tell him that I had saved up for awhile, and I had planned to order it anyways. He was thinking I would do it in July or something. The look on his face was priceless when it showed up. I might stay up and see how much I can get done with it. I'll wire it up and put it up tomorrow. I need to go get wood too. Bad spell coming again. If I was there, I would cut you some. Hope you have enough. I won't need much more, I'll be using the electric blanket. I'm nervous about welding the flange onto the pipe. So thanks for letting me ramble. I think I can weld now.

When you focused the camera on the roof lights we could see the lights flicker as the generator shut down and then the roof lights stayed on fine.
That means that the 110V AC to 12V DC converter, the relay inside the converter are all working properly, no need to investigate that further.
Just keep your alligator clamps to the batteries clean and tight.

My old RV also came with the blocky 30A to 15A converter, I don't really care for those.
My newer RV came with a yellow cord that has a conventional 15A plug at one end where it fits into the generator and the 30A RV receptacle at the other end of the two foot wire.
It works much better than the small blocky adapter and I tie up the cables so that they don't vibrate loose.
Buying one of these cable adapters means no cutting cables and no wiring on a new locking plug.
    Good luck.

Something went wrong with the whole camper wiring because i plugged in an electric heater to keep warm. I think i plugged it into a dc outlet vs some are dedicated ac outlets. To use the locking plug that you ordered from Amazon you will probably have to cut off the existing 30A RV plug from your RV power cord and connect the bare wires to the new locking plug.
Easy to do if you know what you are doing.
Once you cut off the 30A RV plug you will no longer be able to use a conventional outlet in a campground, not an issue for you.
Note: When you cut off the 30A RV plug leave at least 6 inches of wire and then you can make your own RV to locking receptacle converter, again not sure that you would ever use it.

Adding to my other comment, if this locking plug is installed correctly you would be able to use 30A inside the camper.
If you ever need to use that much power at the same time inside your camper this would be the safest installation.
BTW your gasoline generator is rated to deliver close to 50A as long as you use more heavy duty extension cords connected directly to the high consumption appliances but then of course the generator would consume a lot more gasoline.

OK, never mind then. Hard to see in the picture, I should have looked up the part number.

Are you really even Canadian if you wear anything other than Crocs in snow? Also, at first I was like, YUCK peanut butter cups and seltzers? Then I was like, who am I to judge? Jenna has never disappointed before...well maybe that one time she hiked through a forest alone and slept in an A frame cabin with serial killers wandering the woods...but beside that she's been reliable...

Haha, don't knock it until you try it! And that A frame was probably the safest place for me to be from humans..Can't say the same about bears and coyotes though lol

I got that adapter at the hardware store for 14 dollars. I’m curious how come you’ve not expanded on your solar.. not enough sun? I’ve been working on running the 30amp by solar.. getting pricey but o think it’ll be worth it

The generator is a yardworks. They sell at Canadian Tire in Canada and they have a champion generator with remote in the U.S. that probably sell at most Lowes. Hope that helps

    Boop,
The whole concept of having to make a large payment for items that you will use for a long duration... doesn't make any sense to me... just have it so you auto pay for the suggested duration of the items' lifespan or yours... when you pass, they get the lump sum of the asking price when purchased... easy fix to being able to live life more fruitfully...
