Bill Nelson, One of my favourite and criminally underrated Guitarists. "Crying to the Sky" & "Axe Victim" with his band Be Bop Deluxe are two of my all time favourite guitar solos!
Bill Nelson indeed was the singer and lead guitarist on this. The song was originally done by his old band, Be Bop Deluxe, who had many fervent supporters but were more of a cult band. What's best about this reaction is it reinforces your willingness to evaluate songs and artists who are ignored by other reviewers. Bravo.
Bill is my favourite guitarist. He can play in a variety of styles, yet still sound like 'Bill'. He has released over 100 solo albums since disbanding Be Bop Deluxe. There are many memorable examples of his guitar playing prowess, but my favourite solo of all time is on the Be Bop Deluxe track Sound Track. The bassist on this, Dave Sturt, is in the current line-up of classic psychedelic prog band, Gong.
Bill formed Be Bop Deluxe in the early 70's and they were very big over here in the mid 70's. A criminally under-rated and largely unheard of guitarist from Wakefield, 20 minutes or so from me. This came out in 1974 and at this point many classed them as glamrock, lol. The guy on flute and sax is Theo Travis, who've you have seen before on the live Steven Wilson reactions you've done. Good reactions, glad you enjoyed it.
Oh yeah, that was nice. Agree with SAD's take. For me it sounded kind of standard in the beginning, but once the solos kicked in it got real interesting. Good pick Paul. Btw, I'm pretty sure that was Paul I saw in one of those crowd shots. 😂 Good review SAD!
@@paulfenwick8767 Yeah, I thought that was you! Ha ha! Glad you posted this because I vaguely recall Be Bop Deluxe from back in the 70s but I had them in the "glam rock" bucket which didn't appeal to me back then, so I never paid them much attention. After hearing this I've pulled up a few BBD tracks on TH-cam and come to find out ... Bill Nelson is a great guitarist! I'm a little late to the game. By about 50 years. Thanks again for the post.
Pretty damn sweet!! Loved that back and forth between the sax and guitar, fretless bass solo. Ever tried the pudding? Aka Yorkies, popovers, etc. 🤷🏽♂️ Only ever had one Be-Bop Deluxe album, 'Sunburst Finish', 1976. This wasn't on it. Gorgeous. Ttyl8r, SAD, lotsa love, c u 🤟🏼🤩🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊
Great to hear some Bill Nelson again. Nice soloing ont his performance. Unfortunately he's not able to play anymore at this point in his life - I believe he is almost totally deaf now.
Great Band "Be Bop Deluxe " They did 6 Albums ! Deffo worth a trip ! proper under rated Band that only had marginal success in the charts ! Bill did a bit of producing as well , bands such as the " Skids " for example , cheers for this , Bill is not quite as dapper as he once was back in the 70s thats that aging thing going on !!

Well that was a treat. I haven't listened to Bill Nelson for years. I had Drastic Plastic and Sound on Sound on vinyl years ago. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great of you to put The artists on big screen & you in pip

Yeah, he doesn't do live stuff but he's still banging out lots of studio stuff.
He suffered total hearing loss in his right ear in 2014
Sad to hear. This was excellent!
Great video. Check out Be Bop Deluxe and how Bill Nelson played guitar.
