Lazy woman's comment here...I have a wonderful pair of antique pliers-they are thinner than today's heavy ones. I use them for stubborn acrylic, watercolor and alcohol ink tops. Your cleaning and color coding tops is wonderful for those times when my creative muse hides yet I still want to be productive-will definitely use the tips!! Thanks so much!
This is perfectly timed (for me). I just bought a set of cheap alcohol inks and have been playing around with them this week. I love the Marabu Rainbow you showed, so I've added some to my shopping cart for my next purchase. I absolutely love your idea of putting the inks in a palette and letting them dry. You're brilliant. One thing I did learn is that to make your own blender solution, you can add 2-3 drops of glycerin to 2 oz of alcohol. Now I'm looking forward to reviewing all of your past alcohol ink tutorials.
I do not have ink yet so you are helping me more than I can say!!! I will now be an informed consumer; including saving myself some money. Thank you Thank you
the refills of kuretake markers are also an alternative to copic. Japanese markers are basically the same, leplume inks are produced by kuretake. kuretake markers are very similar to the old magic marker.
Thanks loads, I couldnt get my pop open this morning and I used your rubber band on the lid trick and it worked! I appreciate all your beautiful art and your generous sharing of your talents and knowledge.
Thanks for the tips, I'm just trying this for the first time. I didn't have any white out but I do have watercolor ground and that worked really well to swatch the tips.
I love your comment about your craft room not being a Pinterest worthy craft room... because you nailed it when it comes to my craft room! I can't afford all that matchy-matchy Ikea furniture nor would I want to do it that way because I'm a messy crafter too. I would spend all my time cleaning stains off of that white furniture and I can't handle the wood look because it makes my room too dark. I would rather spend my money on craft tools and consumables. Lindsay, if you and I were to sit down and have a chat I could talk your ears off! I had just typed in a huge comment and decided I'd better not post it - it was so very long, and I was all over the place with my thoughts. Pain meds do that to me. Suffice it to say that you have some awesome tips, as always, and I really appreciate your perspective on crafting and keeping expenses manageable. It's amazing what can be done using the tips that you so freely share with all of us. I am a problem solver like you and have found ways to make things work for me. If others walk into my craft room they may think it's a hot mess, but I know where everything is and it's well organized and that's enough to keep me happy. Now I'm going to go and color code the tips of my alcohol ink bottles and my other re-inkers that I have because frankly, I'm tired of pulling out the whole bin and then picking up each bottle individually to see what it is. Thank you for this awesome tip! I think I spend at least as much time organizing and improving my craft room as I do actually crafting. I have an 11x14 craft room where I sew, create greeting cards and other paper crafting, and I take care of all the family bookkeeping and general running of the household tasks. Fortunately my husband loves to shop so I don't do any of the marketing unless it's in a place like Home Depot, Lowe's, or craft and thrift stores. Crafting gives me sanity in light of the fact that I have pain and mobility issues that change the way I get around and mingle socially - and crafting is my happy activity. Thank you again for all of your wonderful tips. If you came to my house you will see many of your tips in action, and yes...that is an invitation! ♥️
Great tips Lindsay! Thank you so much! I love the idea of putting the color on the lid! So much better than digging through and having to pull all the bottles out! 😊
Thank you Lindsay! And I think your craft space is awesome! It looks creative and makes me want to get in my craft space and create!! I watch all of your videos, and especially like the ones that you narrate in real time. Anyway..thanks again and have a great weekend! ❤️
Great tips! One thing I want to add. If you are using the pinata metallics or the newer TH metallics, the claro extender or TH version actually binds it. Using isopropyl will work with it great, but part of it rubs off on your fingers. I LOVE my 4 ounce pinata bottles. I use pipettes with them. The marabu rainbow works with them too
I saw a demo at Cheap Joe's You Tube on using alcohol inks to dye the plain cotton masks from Old Navy. After dropping ink onto the masks, the demonstrator used metallic fabric markers to make pretty designs. I thought that was so cool. I was afraid to get out my 3 alcohol inks and try it for fear that I'd suddenly end up with a collection the size of yours. I'm glad you have the lovely collection so I can own it vicariously 🤗. Copic needs to watch their stuff because so many good markers are out there these days. I have the Ohuhu brush markers because of one of your demos, and they are awesome. Only need Copics to fill in the few blanks. Interesting ideas.
The ink is so pretty you should clean with material so you can use it and save money on paper towels. just my thoughts this is the first video I've seen of yours. Can't wait to watch others.
Using cheap felt instead of the expensive Ranger felts works great. I can't tell the difference. I keep my alcohol inks in a shallow drawer. To keep them from tipping over I put them in used K cups (after composting the coffee and filter first of course!), which keeps them upright. I change felts each time I change color and put the used felt in the cup with the ink. When the felt gets stiff I just put a couple of drops of alcohol on it and it keep dabbing away. Now to get some wite out to mark all my ink refills. I bet it will work for the water based ones as well. Great idea! Thanks for all the sources for ink. That rainbow additive looks lovely. I love all your Dollar Tree supply hints. I get lots of inexpensive supplies there. They now have those fancy cosmetic brushes too! The handles are thicker, and the bristles feel a little different, but they seem to work the same. They are sold individually and come in 3 sizes. The brush part of the biggest one is 1.25", which is good enough for most of what I do.
That is annoying about copics. They did the same thing with Graham crackers which annoys me even more! Lol I'm really liking the idea of tipping the bottles with white out. That's a great idea. Thanks for sharing all of this info. It's greatly appreciated.
Hey Lindsay....I was 'shocked' when you told us about the Copic refills! I honestly feel it's a 'cheap trick' coming out with new packaging but with only half the ink in it. I'm positive there are many out there that don't even realize this so I for one am so happy you shared. I do like the Jacquard alcohol ink better than Ranger's as I find it is more pigmented or, as you advised, they are brighter and have more vivid colors. Anyway, I learned more about alcohol ink in this one video than I have watching many others. I've said it before and I'll say it again, you should have 'The Lindsay Encyclopedia' for artists and crafters alike. I'm always in awe of your vast knowledge with respect to ALL mediums, tips & tricks, how-tos, DIY formulas....I could go on too LOL! Thank you so much, Lindsay for yet another educational and helpful video.
I hadn't gotten graham crackers in awhile, and when I opened the box recently, I was surprised how empty it was. Maybe it used to be a pound but now its about 14 oz, there was an inch gap in the top and each graham cracker is much more narrow. I guess they havent' gotten around to shrinking the box yet. Not an art supply but it is annoying
on the Japanese website of copic they say that the reduction is for customers to refill more and the reduced size and the dosing nozzle assists in refilling. I thought it was greed.
A friend of mine has a husband who occasionally smokes a cigar or gives them as gifts. She gives me the wooden cigar boxes which are great for storing my alcohol inks! Another friend told me you can go to a store that sells cigars and they give away the boxes for free!
as soon as it came out that Copic was changing the size of their refills I bought up a bunch...I think many Copic users will be switching to other markers as there are so many good brands out there now...they could have done a modest price increase but no ...greed and too sure that their patrons would be willing to pay...thank you for your video Lindsay a lot of useful info here..
I recently bought Tim Holtz alcohol inks on clearance at Hobby Lobby bc I figured I could use them as copic refills. I just noticed the packaging says "flammable vapor" and "do not breathe" so I figured it's best to use them during the summer when I can have the window open but still have concerns about safety and handling even though I havent even opened the packages yet.
I've turned those paper towels (used for cleaning inks) into paper by using watered down glue and just covering it front and back 😂. 2 in 1, clean bottles and a new craft supply from trash 😊
I’m with you on the copics. I had been using some other alcohol markers for several years and finally decided to invest in copics. A few months after starting my collection they changed the refills. I was really disappointed. I had started using the brush tip ohuhu markers before making the switch and really liked them but was drawn to copics for the refills. It would have been cheaper in the long run to go with copics but now I don’t think that’s the case. 😕
Yes, it annoys me too! I need to find an affordable replacement. I am fairly new to markers. But I prefer brush tip rather than bullet or chisle. I need to research your reviews on refillable brush markers.
Wow that IS disgusting of Copic to go and switch out the size of the refills to half the size and yet keep the prices the exact same...... SMH It's not like their markers weren't already costing us all an arm and a leg to start with..... Jeesh! lol I honestly don't buy Copic because of the price point. I just cannot justify spending that much money on markers because I swear when I am using them I can only see dollar signs on my paper and not the actual art I am trying to color.... LOL JK I love this channel and you because you're not just an amazing artist but you are a down to earth & honest artist who finds joy in helping others find there inner artist without having to spend their life savings while doing it! And you are pretty darn funny too!!! Thank you Lindsay!!
Tip-Ex, that's what that correction fluid is called :D it's one of those brand names that got turned into a synonym for the whole product group, at least here in Germany ^^
Great tips I love your reviews on all products you do bought the whole set of arrtx markers after your review love them thank you for all your great videos tyfs
Newer alcohol ink that has GREAT reviews but I have not yet tried is Kelty ( ? Spelling) inks. Comparable pricing but Miriams Nature loves them, as have several other artists.
Correction Kielty inks. They have website. Joggles sells as well.😉 They also sell a layering solution that does cool stuff! Thanks for great tips as always!
Hey girl, first of all, I have got to say, how is it that you just keep getting younger and younger and more gorgeous as the years have gone by. I've been following you for many a year and I love to see the hair styles change and such that you go through. So pretty. Now, to the reason I am writing. I know you liked the Marabu ALcohol inks pretty good, especially the Rainbow. Did you know they came out with a new release in June? Glitters and metallics and neons. That set is 50% off as is still the originial set. The 50% off finally went off on the first set but with this second set added they are all 50% off at Joggles so just wanted to let you know.
Could you please show the process of mixing the inks together??? Please???? I don't really understand where to mix them-in those small bottles you have shown? And how to try the color after that on paper? How will I pick the color up from the bottle? With a dried marker?
There is a thought that they may need to raise there prices to survive so instead of doing that, they cut the amount. They may have thought to keep the price the same for a lessor amount making it still accessible for people to afford. Im a self employed small business person and have had to think of creative ways to survive without continually increasing my prices. Just thoughts🥰
This was very informative I didn't know much about them. What are alcohol inks used for? Can you make them? Also what are pastels and chalk pads? Thank you for expanding my knowledge of art supplies and techniques. You're a good teacher, upbeat and inspiring.❣🤗😎👍
I just answered Rob Ots question, so I'm going to be a bit lazy and copy part of the answer here ;) Alcohol ink is what is used in Markers like Copics or Ohuhu. It is a fluid drawing or writing medium(=ink) that is based on alcohol as the solvent component, the stuff in which you dissolve the dyes or pigments (or whatever gives your ink the colour it has) and which makes it fluid so can use it in pens, like markers or fountain and dip pens :3. I'm not an expert on the different ingredients of the stamping pads, but basically pastel or chalk pads should be filled with colours made out of chalk (which is a pigment made out well the pretty soft, white or greyish type of natural stone, it dissolves into water and can be mixed with other pigments to create colours and then just dried to make chalk sticks like sidewalk chalk or the chalk you would use o the blackboard in school - or you dissolve it in a solvent and put it in an inking pad). Pastels are more or less the same, albeit usually softer. They are pigments pressed into stick form and if they are not oil pastels, they are usually quite powdery when you.draw with them and they smudge easy :3
I hope it wasn't greed that caused Copic to make this change. That won't work out for Copic in the long run as other/new companies are offering affordable alternatives. With 30+ years in marketing, I know when companies disappoint their loyal base, consumers will go astray!
TheBusinessProse I hazard a guess that it was greed! I am outraged.. I’m new to alcohol markers I’m disabled and don’t work, , I spent all my savings on copics at the beginning of lockdown, only to discover the ink rebrand situation, I would never have bought the full set if I had known.. you are right, more companies will hopefully redress the balance, and bring out more inks and refillable markers at a decent price range... Shame on Copic!
Love the tips you give on a variety of items and paints. I could use some help though. If you could do a step by step tutorial on how to use a very simple set up for using your phone and laptop to do videos that would be very helpful. I know there are plenty out there, yet they leave things out. Like, how do you get your laptop and phone to synch up? Just a suggestion for people who would like to start a channel. If not, that's ok.
Yes, jacksons art. I think I linked to the shinhan touch inks in the decsroption, they match the classic colors by number. I'm not sure what system the ohuhu brush markes use but you might be able to match by name.
Charley's Goodies I’m in uk too.. I am using shinhan touch reinkers, they are 4 quid each, they have about 90 colours and it’s 20 ml. I’m also using Spectrum noir reinkers, they have more than 100 colours, 6 quid for 30 ml
I'm glad I never jumped on the Copic bandwagon. I'm sure they're great but, really, for cardmaking? I don't see the justification for the expense. Anyway, Gel plates and Oxide sprays are great friends! I know you said you wanted more ways to use the sprays. I strongly urge you to try them with the Gel plates! And make a video! Your Gel plate videos are my favorites! I need more of them in my life! Thank you! Stay safe!
Another idea: deconstruct the cheaper marker, as ohuhu, and put the ink kernel into the copic with the same color, save the money Will it work? Who has ever deconstructed markers?
Science tip: For the record any alcohol that is derived from a woody based plant (think trees) are usually toxic and not meant for consumption. Isopropyl is one example of a woody alcohol. (Wouldn’t sample the copic ink) Basically when a plant doesn’t have enough oxygen to produce nutrients it produces alcohol as a byproduct. Grain / grass like plants tend to give us the various types of alcohol we consume as do small vegetable / fruits. However something the size of a tree when it doesn’t have oxygen creates that much more and at a higher concentration than small plants. This is usually lethal or poisonous. (Can blind you.)
Great tips for painting the tops of the bottles. I wondered how they did that and got it to really show. Yeah Copic is definitely taking advantage of their artist base consumers. I heard they were taking their compressor unit off the market, have you heard this? Thank you so much
Hi, Lindsay, two questions: what kind of brush do you recommend when using re-wetted alcohol inks like in your plastic pallet - a brush made for watercolors perhaps? And can Tim Holtz alcohol blending solution be used to refill a colorless blender marker? Thanks!
Awesome tips! Question how would you do dye ink refills? I have one for you. Coban from getting bloodwork done works Awesome for hard to open bottles. I save it and use it on glue bottles etc.
I have used cheap kids liquid watercolors and flycri. To thicken it for dye pads but for best results I recommend buying a dye based stamp pad refill bottle. I like stampin up and memento. Joann.com often has the memento refills 40% off
@@thefrugalcrafter I'm sorry didn't state question clearly. How would you mark the top of the bottle of Stampin Up ink with the color. Would you do it the same way?
The copic change was announced last year so I dont think so but blicks reinkers recently jumped so that might be their reason or maybe they link it's what the market will bear. Other alcohol inks didnt increase price.
Any difference is small. I heard the ranger has a resin in it so it shouldn't be spray applied but it dosnt effect refilling a marker unless you are using an airbrush attachment. These contain ethanol or denatured alcohol, pigment and a touch of glycerin (I believe) for smoothness. I've mixed all branfs and had no issues. Each brand mat vary slightly but there wouldn't be a problem mixing.
For a budget alternative I'd go with sanjoki: amzn.to/3QlzqBL For a mid price/quality with refills and a range as large as Copic I'd go with ohuhu: amzn.to/46Akzcy And if you ant the closest dupe to copicwith refills and the dame nib I'd go with blick studio brush markers: shrsl.com/49qic
Disgusting is a good word for the myriad of companies reducing product amount and selling for the same price. You see it in ice cream, sliced bread, Oreo cookies... all for the same price. And.. oh yeah.. toilet paper! Have you noticed about an inch reduction in width?! Anyone that has the old TP roll holder that Charmin' used to give you for free knows what I'm talking about. Ok...rant over. Thanks for the useful info about the inks. I have some I need to finally try, and I was worried about the mess. Got my little alcohol spray bottle ready now. :)
I’m annoyed and don’t even own Copics, or any alcohol markers. They cut the volume less than half and are still charging the same price? That sounds like bad business to me.
Lindsay, are people getting emails alerting them that you uploaded a new video? I am not. In fact, I am not getting the vast majority of the emails for videos that I did before. Does anyone know how this can be fixed?
I am supremely ticked off at Copic! Like words can't even express. I'm on a small disability income but when I looked into alcohol markers because they were refillable because you could replace the nibs I thought this is the way to go plus no other markers out there began to compare at the time. I could see decrease it a little bit rather than raise the price but to go less than half the amount and the prices almost the same as it was. Not that they care but I sent them an email calling it unconscionable and reprehensible and all of the other words I could think of to let them know how incredibly disgusted I was. I also let him know that these days they've got competition. I haven't tried some of the other alcohol markers but I've seen your reviews of them. That super nib brush tips were one of the things that really could not be duplicated by anybody but if I understand you correctly there's some that have pretty much gotten it down now. I'll let him know that you know what you ain't the only acting Town anymore you do well to mind your p's and q' s. Don't piss off a bunch of Crafters cuz we're creative, and we will find a way around you. I really wish now I had waited a year to get into them because there's no way I would go with Copic today. I was lucky to get about 30 markers when Hobby Lobby clearance the sketches out for $2 each on some colors. And again got about 35 or so from another place on sale for just under $3 for sketches, but the rest I paid 5.85 a marker. I was able to get maybe eight of the 25 ml refills and now all the rest I'll have to do the 12 ml
I like that your splotchy swatches look as if they were made with some outline markers 😊 Copic raising their prices so much really is a shame. I mean, every company needs to raise their prizes every once in a while, but doubling them? That really is kinda insolent (or impudent? No matter how many translations I look up, none of them seem to really match with the German "dreist" I would go for) Even more reason to stay away from them ^^'
LunaBianca1805 I totally agree, I’m devestated that. Copic has price gouged their ink so much by halfing thevolume,. I’m on a mission now to find as many similar colours of ink from cheaper brands as I can to refil my markers.. unfortUnately though, I can’t find a company that has the really pale shades that copic does.
@@CannabisIsMedicineUK It probably won't help if you thin darker shades of the colours out with that clear blender ink to create pastels, would it 🤔? I mean, there's pretty light shades in my Shin Han Touch but those are probably still not as light as some of the Copic ones ....
I use copic blending solution to lighten in colors. It works great. I mix my own refills a lot. I would love to make a foolproof tutorial for others to follow but I go by eye.
LunaBianca1805 I had t even thought of that!.. awesome! I’ve matched about fifty or so of my copics so far with the shinhan touch and spectrum noir inks, but I will try that trick.. thanks
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich thanks I will def try that! Copic has done a number on us frugal crafters! A tutorial on mixing colours would be greatly received!
I can't believe the Copic Company did that. and during the worst time the world has seen in a vary long time. I feel like we have been being robed. I will not buy any supplies for myself from them. If my daughter insist she have her copics I will do it for her. I'm hoping it makes her mad too.& we will just buy Ohuhu's. Just wish ohuhu would offer single markers. She & I both would be happy campers. thanks so much for all you do. TYFS
every time someone gets blood drawn or a vaccine, they seem to be ok. And they have to breathe in rubbing alcohol fumes. since it's used to sterilize the skin. And wouldn't be people administering the vaccines or drawing the blood be keeling over if that were true?
Well, I am clearly in the minority. I am not at all upset about the change in the Copic refill bottles. I figured a price hike was coming because the price has been the same for about 10 years now. That’s unusual. The first misconception I wish to clear up is that Copic Markers did change the price too. The MSRP for the new smaller refill bottles is $6 US. The MSRP for the old Various Ink Refill bottles was $8 US. I think most of us savvy crafters buy Copic Markers and refills at retailers like Dick Blick or Jerry’s Artarama. These kind of retailers offer a steep discount. The old bottles normally were $8 but I always paid less than $6. I usually saved between $2 and $3 on refills. Now though, no one is discounting the new refill bottles as much. MSRP is $6 and Dick Blick has the refills for between $4.71 and $5.55. They are not offering as big a discount as they used to offer. The new bottles come with quite a few benefits compared to the old refills. The new longer nozzle makes refilling markers easier. The caps are closer in color to the ink which means you won’t have to register the new refill bottles. It’s easier to see into the bottles too which is both better for seeing ink color and to see how much ink is left. Copic is responding to their customers who use the refill bottles for alcohol ink techniques both in resin and on paper. The redesigned bottles are easier to work with. Let’s not get it twisted. It’s still much cheaper to refill a marker than to purchase a new one. The new bottles will refill a Ciao marker 9 times and a sketch marker 7 times. That makes each refill cost between a 1.03$ and $1.39 US. That is still a good bargain even if it isn’t as great as before. Then there’s the environmental factor. Refilling our markers is a way to reduce our consumption and we should be demanding that all marker manufacturers switch to making refillable markers. Bottom line: Refills are the better choice from both a cost perspective and an environmental one.
Alcohol ink is what is used in Markers like Copics or Ohuhu.
For using alcohol ink? Copic ink does have a characteristic alcohol odor (very negligible, though). Unlike a paint thinner, it will be broken down and will not accumulate in the body even if you inhale this small amount. Its characteristic is more like ethanol for disinfection. Odor of Copic ink is basically free of anything harmful, but if it makes you feel sick, we recommend you to ventilate the room.
Desire Love there is a dose response to the vocs and the fumes. MSDS sheets outline the dangers. Most never know until there’s damage to the soft tissues

I keep most of my alcohol inks in silicon ice cube moulds. They are flexible and hold the bottles so they don’t fall over.
Good idea!
You really changed my art world, because I was afraid to use .my copics, now I don't!❣️💝👏💕

The brush part of the biggest one is 1.25", which is good enough for most of what I do.
Great tip and I think the larger dt makeup brushes are great for ink!
Always very useful information. I have saved so much money over the years from watching your videos. Thanks again for all your helpful tips.
That is annoying about copics. They did the same thing with Graham crackers which annoys me even more! Lol I'm really liking the idea of tipping the bottles with white out. That's a great idea. Thanks for sharing all of this info. It's greatly appreciated.
Omg!! Never even thought to do this!! Thank you! I notice you now have 500,000 subscribers!!!!!!
Nice!!! THANKS FOR THE TIPS!! Cool video. Thanks for sharing❤
Hi Lindsay. Interesting video! Could you please do a video about the use of glitters. Your videos are helpful always. 👍😊💖
Wow! So much to learn about alcohol markers and inks.. Thank you for this!
Thanks!
Thank you for the stazon reactivating tip. Awesome!
Really helpful 👍😃😃
Oh and the rubber band trick .👌💯
your a genius.🤓
Helpful tips Lindsay! So that’s why my Copic V28 was gummy and dry and did not reink post refilling. Argh!! 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤷🏽♀️
Not a Stazon fan either😃👍🏾😂
as soon as it came out that Copic was changing the size of their refills I bought up a bunch...I think many Copic users will be switching to other markers as there are so many good brands out there now...they could have done a modest price increase but no ...greed and too sure that their patrons would be willing to pay...thank you for your video Lindsay a lot of useful info here..
All Japanese companies are like that
I recently bought Tim Holtz alcohol inks on clearance at Hobby Lobby bc I figured I could use them as copic refills. I just noticed the packaging says "flammable vapor" and "do not breathe" so I figured it's best to use them during the summer when I can have the window open but still have concerns about safety and handling even though I havent even opened the packages yet.
Any alcohol will say that. It's just like marker ink.
Thanks for the block and Velcro idea!
I've turned those paper towels (used for cleaning inks) into paper by using watered down glue and just covering it front and back 😂.
2 in 1, clean bottles and a new craft supply from trash 😊
Great tip with rubber band!
Thanks for the great tips. I'm a bit new to these so great info 💕
Yes, it annoys me too! I need to find an affordable replacement. I am fairly new to markers. But I prefer brush tip rather than bullet or chisle. I need to research your reviews on refillable brush markers.
Blick studio brush markers are the best copic dupes I think.
I have some copic markers but since the price has gone up I am not going to buy them anymore!!
Great tips! Lindsay I'm also ticked off about having the Copic alcohol markers fills half for the same price as they were for the other amount. ❤😘
Have you ever done a review on Jane Davenport Layer Cake paints. I want to order them to use in my coloring books but don’t know enough about them.
No, I dont have them but they seem very much like gouache or watercolor crayon.
LOL JK
I love this channel and you because you're not just an amazing artist but you are a down to earth & honest artist who finds joy in helping others find there inner artist without having to spend their life savings while doing it! And you are pretty darn funny too!!! Thank you Lindsay!!
Aww thanks!
Amazing as usual! Thank you!
I love your hacks
Great tips, thank you!!
I'm so glad you are enjoying them!
Thanks!
Could you please show the process of mixing the inks together??? Please???? I don't really understand where to mix them-in those small bottles you have shown? And how to try the color after that on paper? How will I pick the color up from the bottle? With a dried marker?
I just combine colors like I would paint and then use a pipette to refill my markers.
Great tips!
I just answered Rob Ots question, so I'm going to be a bit lazy and copy part of the answer here ;)
Alcohol ink is what is used in Markers like Copics or Ohuhu.
Thank you very much.
@@karenhankerson330 No problem 😊
I hope it wasn't greed that caused Copic to make this change. That won't work out for Copic in the long run as other/new companies are offering affordable alternatives. With 30+ years in marketing, I know when companies disappoint their loyal base, consumers will go astray!
Yeah, if it coincided with the pandemic I'd think it is because alcohol is hard to come by but this decision was made before then.
Great tips
Thank you for the tip a great idea
Hey Lindsey love the video thanks for the info. Just to confirm can I use these ink to refill my cheap marker.
Sure, I do.
I cant help, I dont record on my phone or laptop.
Great tips -thanks!!!!
Awesome tips. Could you use rubbing alcohol ?
If you use a high % like 90 or up. I like denatured alcohol or copic blending solution.
They also sell empty markers to create your own marker
I’m in the UK, do you know of any websites that sell reinkers I could use on my ohuhu markers? Thanks for another great video!
Thank you! Stay safe!
I'll try that, I have a junk journal idea!
Another idea: deconstruct the cheaper marker, as ohuhu, and put the ink kernel into the copic with the same color, save the money
Will it work?
Who has ever deconstructed markers?
Science tip: For the record any alcohol that is derived from a woody based plant (think trees) are usually toxic and not meant for consumption. Isopropyl is one example of a woody alcohol. (Wouldn’t sample the copic ink)
Basically when a plant doesn’t have enough oxygen to produce nutrients it produces alcohol as a byproduct.
Thank you so much
I haven't, I dont see many people using it, I imagine it is an ink hog.
Or tiles whatkind of i kor paint should I us?
Hi, Lindsay, two questions: what kind of brush do you recommend when using re-wetted alcohol inks like in your plastic pallet - a brush made for watercolors perhaps? And can Tim Holtz alcohol blending solution be used to refill a colorless blender marker? Thanks!
I use a synthetic nylon or taklon. Nothing delicate as the alcohol ink will dry it out and can ruin it.
@@thefrugalcrafter Thank you!
Can you mix it with the bottles of alcohol ink, mines are dry
@@Elizabeth45840 I think it would rub off, try cutting a dot of of sticker or label paper for that.
@@thefrugalcrafter thank you so much.
I wonder if the price jump has anything to do with alcohol shortage? I use isopropyl to clean and it’s been extremely difficult to find.
The copic change was announced last year so I dont think so but blicks reinkers recently jumped so that might be their reason or maybe they link it's what the market will bear. Other alcohol inks didnt increase price.
Thanks for the tip on cleaning my markers. The paint pallet at the end of the video, are they alcohol ink or paint that you are using?
Alcohol ink
Are you sure that all alcohol ink is the same ? I mean in all markers? Is the ink interchangeable?
Any difference is small. I heard the ranger has a resin in it so it shouldn't be spray applied but it dosnt effect refilling a marker unless you are using an airbrush attachment. These contain ethanol or denatured alcohol, pigment and a touch of glycerin (I believe) for smoothness. I've mixed all branfs and had no issues. Each brand mat vary slightly but there wouldn't be a problem mixing.
Wite-out by Bic 😊
Hi, what do you recommend as an alternative to Copic?
For a budget alternative I'd go with sanjoki: amzn.to/3QlzqBL
For a mid price/quality with refills and a range as large as Copic I'd go with ohuhu: amzn.to/46Akzcy
And if you ant the closest dupe to copicwith refills and the dame nib I'd go with blick studio brush markers: shrsl.com/49qic
@@thefrugalcrafter, EXCELLENT!!!
Is it now cheaper to just buy a whole new copic marker rather than the 12ml Reinkers. How much ink does a copic sketch marker hold?
Mary Valleau 1.8ml I think
I agree!
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich 😘
Right? For a medium that isn't even light fast. Ridiculous. Go with Ohuhu. Awesome cheap dupe that does the same thing.
@@thefrugalcrafter Me too.
Jacquard products are the best!!!
They are!
Lindsay, are people getting emails alerting them that you uploaded a new video? I am not. In fact, I am not getting the vast majority of the emails for videos that I did before. Does anyone know how this can be fixed?
I have no idea, you can click the bell and select receive all notifications.
How about homemake alcohol ink?
It is annoying, thanks for the heads up that the art industry is doing the same as the food industry. Same price smaller amount 😖
My bottles of alcohol ink is becoming dry, can I revive it
Yes, add denatured alcohol
I like that your splotchy swatches look as if they were made with some outline markers 😊
Copic raising their prices so much really is a shame.
Liquid Paper. 😁

That's it!
TYFS
I saw they are starting to sell open stock at ohuhu.com!
@@thefrugalcrafter Oh WOW thanks so much for telling me that. We will 4 sure check that out. TY
Rubbing alcohol is very dangerougs in a spray bottle. The fume can make you very sick.
every time someone gets blood drawn or a vaccine, they seem to be ok.
Awesome
Not cool what copic company did.
The should be ashamed.
There is always ohuhu markers. 🤷♀️
And they match the shinhan touch ink refills!
Nice thanks ❤️❤️
Your the best 😊❤️
Question #1: What is alcohol ink? 😮 Sorry, you just lost me. 💚
Alcohol ink is what is used in Markers like Copics or Ohuhu.
No more Copics or me!
Firstly tell everyone that precautions like a respirator and gloves for their health. It’s a dangerous medium.
Great tips!
