Fimi A3 Battery replacement

- Hi, guys, thanks for visiting. If your Fimi A3 drone battery is dead or dying here is a way of installing a replacement battery in the existing Fimi battery housing - no need for external wiring. Unfortunately as you will see, the replacement battery I found, although of the same power rating as the original, did not give the expected flight time. I can only say that the battery I found is very inexpensive, and if your existing battery or batteries are pretty well dead, it's a way of keeping flying!
I have now (February 2023) produced a new video featuring more suitable batteries:
• Fimi A3 Battery mods
Link to the battery I used here , that price is of course for two, so with delivery in the UK, only £14 per battery.
www.ebay.co.uk...
Link to a 'bare' original battery - fits in an existing housing. I might give one a try! Note that this price is pre tax, add VAT at 20%
www.aliexpress...
Thanks, new to the A3 and was looking 👀 for a battery solution.
Thanks for your interest. But please look at my next offering for a better internal battery. th-cam.com/video/Vr8e0Cc2hl0/w-d-xo.html Even that didn't do all that well and the 3000 mAH Goldbat battery was so tight that I've given up on that one now (September 2024). I've eventually ended up strapping a larger battery underneath and connecting via an empty battery housing as others have done. Best of luck.
@@astropetev Thanks for replying. I appreciate your time and effort to share information.

I appreciate your efforts here. Thanks for the information 😊
thank you, the diagram is really helpful
Hello, I made a mod with a suspended battery due to the impossibility of finding a package that would fit inside the drone. Gens Ace Soaring 2200mah 30c I manage to fly around 17 minutes to autolanding, with the second Gens Ace Soaring 2700mah 30c package I achieve around 21 minutes of flight, so the results are great.
I think the factory battery is more like a 2200, if you cut the plastic off a 2200 and slice the top of the battery cage off, you can just squeeze it in there, but a 2400 LiHV battery strapped on the under side is much better than stock.
Thanks for your interest. But if you go to my later thread you will see that I have suggested a better one to go inside the drone and a larger battery as well. th-cam.com/video/Vr8e0Cc2hl0/w-d-xo.html
@@astropetev Do you charge your cells to 4.2 or 4.35?
@@criticalevent 4.2 volts for the non original batteries. 4.35 volts or at least as much as my charger (not the original one) will give to the original batteries, and yes I do get a little bit longer flight time then. But I've found that even with the extra power the flight times are still well below that achieved when the drone and batteries were new in 2019. Everything getting older, and unfortunately it would seem, based on the performace of new non Fimi batteries that the originals were made to a very high specification, but are no longer available other than old stock which of course will not be as good.
@@astropetev I found charging my original batteries with the cheap HV charger everyone bought caused them all to puff up. I buy actual LiHV batteries now and charge with my balance charger, but I have a couple standard 2200 Turnigy batteries that I overcharge also and they haven't died yet, I get about 14-16 minutes out of those. I can get 20 mins out of a 2400 LiHV. I don't think I ever got more than 15 minutes out of the stock batteries.
The battery you used had a 30c discharge rate, hence the lower flight time, if you use the same capacity battery, that is 11v 2000mah but a 60c rating you will achieve 20-25 minutes. Also make sure you charge the replacement battery with a balance charger ( such as B6 Sky) as the Fimi charger does not fully charge ( even the stock battery).
Thanks for your interest, Richard. But if you read one of my earlier comments you will see that the battery was almost certainly wrongly labelled. Other physically identical batteries have a stated capacity of 1100 mAh. You will find my later video much more useful. th-cam.com/video/Vr8e0Cc2hl0/w-d-xo.html But an interesting point about the C rating. Perhaps you could explain why the lower rating can shorten the flying time?
great informations!!
Preciosa música!!!
Hi again everyone.
I eventually ordered the 'bare' battery from AliExpress. It took several weeks to arrive, but when it eventually did so looked promising. It was already connected to the correct fittings for the A3 and went easily into the housing. BUT was a right bummer to put it mildly! I expected that it would be of similar quality to the original batteries. Certainly the price suggested that. But no, I got less than 10 minutes total flight time even after several cycles. I complained to AliExpress, but because I was on holiday, missed the 'window' for progressing it, and ended up with 'no refund'.
DON'T BUY THAT BATTERY!!!!
Which battery are you referring to? that in the video?
@@livegio6948 No, it is one which comes with the wiring arrangement to completely replace an old battery inside the existing plastic housing. As it was a new battery supposedly the same as those originally supplied with the drone I expected to get at least 15 minutes flight time. But no. I suspect the battery itself was quite old. That was my experience - maybe I was just unlucky. The proper 2000 maH battery in my next video was just as good (or bad if you like!) but a lot cheaper. It seems the only reasonable way to get a longer flight time is to use a larger battery and strap it on underneath as many others have done.
Hello everyone,Finally found a battery today that fits in the battery compartment of the drone fimi A3.It's about the GOLDBAT 3S 11.1V 3000mAh 30C LiPo Battery. It is slightly longer 3 cm than the original battery and protrudes a small part from the slot. The other dimensions of width and height are correct.Good luck everyone, I'm now looking to connect the battery with a connector from an old battery
Hi, Jens. Have you actually fitted the battery? The stated thickness of 0.77" = 19.5 mm, but the existing battery housing is only 18mm, with very little to spare. A fair bit heavier than the original, but of course more powerful. What is the thickness of your battery? I expect it will be a little tricky to fit the electrical connection to the drone with the battery sticking out below it. But not impossible :-) Best of luck and let us know how you get on.
@@astropetev Hello,If you email me I can send a little video of how it all works then you can post it on your youtube channel if you like. I myself have little knowledge of posting videos, it can be an added value for all owners of the fimi A3 drone, best regards, Jens
@@jenshast9880 Hi again, Jens. That would be great, but where can I find your email address? Peter
@@astropetev how long does the drone fly on this battery??
@@bab9117 Hi, kamil, I don't know how long Jens battery will last - over to you, Jens. But I've just found (Amazon UK) a 2000 mAh battery which is only very slightly narrower than the original and if the stated dimensions are correct it should fit inside the plastic housing like the one I originally tried but which turned out to be falsely rated. Google for Sunpadow 11.1v 2000 mAh. £20.99 from Amazon. I've taken a chance and ordered one. It's about 20g lighter than the original bare battery. Will report back once it's tested. With any luck it will give at least 15 minutes solid flight time. Peter. Here is the Amazon link:

Hi Astropetev, i have a question for you
Hi where can I Bay this battery? Thanks
Link above. But please look at my next video - the Sunpadow battery is a much better one to fit inside the housing. th-cam.com/video/Vr8e0Cc2hl0/w-d-xo.html
I think I now know why the replacement battery I used didn't fly for as long as hoped. I've just seen one on Amazon which is exactly the same dimensions as mine. BUT mine was shown as 2000 mAh, whereas as you will see the Amazon one is 1100 mAh. Probably too long ago now for me to claim against the seller, but definitely wrongly labelled. www.amazon.co.uk/Airsoft-Battery-Rechargeable-Batteries-Connector/dp/B09WQVCZWN/ref=sr_1_6?adgrpid=104235973677&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIuvaK986f-wIVDOztCh3LVwcYEAAYASAAEgLxE_D_BwE&hvadid=448435201148&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9046742&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=17709961164827945464&hvtargid=kwd-301546670774&hydadcr=14875_1829131&keywords=lipo+battery+11.1v&qid=1667946323&sr=8-6
