IRT CARS 1950s to early 60s

When I heard this tune, I knew immediately the slide show I wanted to make. The IRT in the early years of NYCTA was still running cars from the original subway through all the original SMEEs.

The oldest IRT cars I can remember in service were the R12s. They were already running on the 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 trains. Even though, they were originally on the 7 train, I'm too young to remember that.

Does anybody know what the loop like structure on the World's Fair train is? It's near the motorman's cab.

It's for the Identra system which was used to identify a train as either local or express so the platform signs at some stations on the two track section between Times Square and Queensboro Plaza would display correctly and also inform the tower how the track switches east of Queensboro Plaza should be set to route the train to the correct track.
