This is one of the reasons why I love Robert, he was never afraid to go toe to toe with the Walker family, he never backed down, he told them off when it's needed. And this is what I'm afraid that the show is gonna loose with Robert gone. He was the sane one in this crazy family, he was the anchor and rock who took care of things in a crisis. No other in-laws coming into this family can compete with what Robert did. I'm gonna miss him so much!
I love Robert in this scene because he expresses a common frustration, I have with a lot of dramas. Namely, important event is happening but the characters "just have" to get someone to have a personal awkward conversation/express their feelings when guests are over, or there's a work presentation happening or a wedding service is going on. They are talking through something important and usually when someone (quite rightly) asks them to be quiet so they can hear, they get huffy and keep going. Most normal adults don't do this. I know drama is conflict but just once I'd like people to be having an argument going into an event, then show some establishing shots of them listening carefully to the event and then show them outside having rekindled the argument. I think that would work a lot more then showing that your characters are rude and self centred by talking through their nephew's christening.
He's right they're being utterly ridiculous, idiotic, and foolhardy to the point of embarrassing and even kitty proved it when she asked if they even read it or if they just looked for their own names. Nora needed to shut up and apologize to her daughter because no matter what, she agreed to be there knowing the goal of the dinner; and nothing she said in the last few minutes was so urgent it could nor wait. Robert was right this family needs to learn the sun does not rise and set because of their emotions. As they used to say in sex education "IT CAN WAIT".
I understand Robert defending Kitty, but what right does Kitty have to write about her own family without their permission? Can't she have just asked them? That could have been the least consideration she could have shown! And Nora has all the rights to ask Kitty abt it! And she is not dramatic or neurotic abt it! Much more calm than I would be if I was there in her shoes!
Actually Kitty has all the rights to write about whatever she wants in regards to her feelings and her life. She doesn’t actually need anyone’s permission. Also her book is about the campaign and she brings up the family members only as mirrors of electorate archetypes, it’s perfectly valid. And Nora doing all that dramatic “I HATE THIS SIDE OF YOU” at her and Robert’s party is a very shitty thing and Robert is right to speak up.
