    Nice interview :)
    I agree with the points about him having a Welsh accent. There's no such thing as a 'British' accent really , because the differences of accent within the UK are significant.
    Having said that, British people would say "American" accent, even though Americans sound very different in South Carolina to what they do Boston. So everyone everywhere is sometimes to blame for generalizing!!

      @@kimmarievan-ever6599 It's true that there is not really a British accent, but often times people say British accent as a general term for whatever accent that is in Britain whether it's English, Welsh, Scottish or Irish.

  • @QueenShebaVIII
    @QueenShebaVIII 13 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    It is A British accent, one of many, many British accents so it is correct, but it would be MORE correct and more specific to call it a WELSH accent.

    • @henrythomasbarthram6065
      @henrythomasbarthram6065 ปีที่แล้ว

      But even in Wales, accents are so diverse (I know this comment is from 12 years ago). A Gog sounds very similar to a Scouser and nothing like a Taff, which is what Matthew (broadly speaking) is.

  • @cashernandes1
    @cashernandes1 13 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @stefabang Yeah, agreed. I'd say he's got a Welsh accent rather than a British one, just as one is more likely to say that someone has got a Scottish accent (even though it is still British). What I meant is that it is incorrect to state that he HASN'T got a British accent!

    @ZacHeartVanessa no, I don't expect everyone to know details of accents. But I also don't expect people to casually lump people, languages, identities, cultures, histories, etc all together and pretend like they are the same thing and interchangeable. And how is it fair that you get to show off your ignorance of the ethnic cultures of the British Isles but I can't show my knowledge of it?

  • @razmataz13drums
    @razmataz13drums 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @cashernandes1 its like saying he has a european accent. all the parts that make up europe are so diverse and different the same as the differences atleast in accent as scotlannd wales england so.. whilst it would be right to say he's from britain there is no such thing as a british accent

  • @razmataz13drums
    @razmataz13drums 14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @cashernandes1 well yeah but its like saying so and so has an american accent and america has a vast number of very differnt accents. there's no such thing as a british accent. britain includes wales england scotland and northern ireland in which are completely different accents.

  • @cashernandes1
    @cashernandes1 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Kuunz420 And that fact that you're from Britain and I'm not doesn't make me any less capable of discussing this. Otherwise, how could we describe something that comes from Africa as "African" even though we're not from this continent? "African Portuguese" doesn't help much, we'd rather say someone has an Angolan accent. Still, it doesn't make it wrong. And you guys are saying that a Welsh accent is not a British accent, and THAT's incorrect, though it's not as clear as saying Welsh.

  • @ldsc3652
    @ldsc3652 13 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    @cashernandes1 Um, no. Actually there is no such thing as a "British" accent. There isn't even really a such thing as an "English" accent. There's cockney (spoken in the London region), scouse (spoken in Liverpool), geordie (spoken in Newcastle), and a whole range of very different accents, which sound wildly different from each other and are very distinct. Matthew Rhys is Welsh, and speaks with a South Wales accent. It is NOT correct to call his accent BRITISH.

    @Kuunz420 Funny for a person whose mother-tongue is supposedly English to constantly make spelling mistakes, such as the ones in "there accent to there neighbours". THEIR accent and THEIR neighbours, silly. I guess if you can't even get THAT right you're not in the slightest qualified to debate this ultimately irrelevant subject. And it doesn't seem an awful lot of people disagree with me, quite the contrary... lol

    @cashernandes1 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Kuunz420 I know there is no such thing as "British accent". But you can call it British. As I said before, it's much more appropriate to call it Welsh of course, but it doesn't mean it's not British. Following the same lines we could never say someone has a Brazilian accent as opposed to a European one. Or take German and Swiss German. Ignorance? Funny for a BRITON to assert that whatever comes from Wales is not British...
