Great list! I find that where people slot "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" is how I relate with them concerning Stephen King fandom. That book is the ultimate "under the radar" book. Thematic and character-centric to the max. Obviously with so many books, opinions vary. While Firestarter, The Stand, The Dead Zone, and Needful Things are Brilliant for me, different books just hit differently for other people. I love that you have books like Dolores Claiborne, Hearts In Atlantis, and The Institute so high. While I wouldn't have put them that high, the fact that you did means you had quite an experience reading them. And I think that's awesome!
Thank you for your input! I absolutely agree with you. I think I mentioned it in my video too that my likes may not be “likes” to others. That’s why this tier list is so flexible because my top tier books could be someone’s bottom tier. Which is okay because everyone has their own opinion!
This is such an excellent list the best I've seen as far as going with my taste. The fact that you put hearts in Atlantis and he's really intend knew everything else was going to go into place after that. That is by far the most underrated Stephen King novel in my opinion.
Thank you for the feedback and response! I’m glad you enjoyed my tier list and I agree, Hearts in Atlantis is very underrated and more King fans should really see how amazing a book is truly is.
Some of the books that fall into the brilliant category are my favorites, Salem lot, Carry, It. Definitely, I will read the shining, Night Shift, misery and Pet sematary this year, great tier list.
It, 11/22/63, The Stand, The Shining and The Green Mile are my favorites. Salem's Lot is my next read! You should do a tier list of Stephen King film adaptations next. There are some interesting ones to say the least...
Those are all great choices! ‘Salem’s Lot is my all-time favorite SK novel. You won’t be disappointed! Thank you for the suggestion. I definitely have seen tons of adaptations to create a tier list. ☺️
A good comprehensive list. May I suggest the chaptering of similar list videos to find a particular book easier? There was a few of these later books I didn't know about, now out for delivery! His crime novels I don't find appealing as it is not a genre that holds my attention. Funnily enough, the books in your hard to finish section are some of the books I found page turners and enjoyable, especially Insomnia and its connections to the dark tower! Each to their own!
Awesome feedback! Yeah, I did like that Insomnia related to the Dark Tower, but it was a hard book to keep up with. Just my opinion though, still enjoyed reading all of SK books and the journey they took me on!
I’ve read only the Shining. I liked the book and how much time was spent exploring Jack’s alcoholism, his abusive relationship with his father, his attempt to be a better dad for Danny and his fall. That being said, the movie is fucking brilliant.
I’m glad you loved The Shining! I love the way Jack Nicholson played his part because I enjoy him as an actor. The book I enjoyed more because of the family focus of the theme is strong.
My favorite King so far is Bag of Bones. I've just started Needful Things. Thanks so much for this tier list! I think I'll also put the Bill Hodges trilogy on my TBR.
Thank you very much for your support! Yeah, I wanted to make sure I have a small explanation of the book for each one. It was a lot to do but worth it!
I’m reading King chronologically. When I got to the tommyknockers, I got about half way through, and didn’t return to it for almost a year. Took me another half year to finish. It really screwed with my reading cycle
Hahaha the exact different order for me, Desperation I found okay (I read Regulators first) and the Regulators was great for me. Seems like most people love the one they read first and dislike or find okay the second one they read.
Great video, very fun to watch and great pace too ! Just one thing I don't understand, maybe a mistake, but you put Needful things in Great and say it's on your top 10 ?
Yes it is on My Top 10 because the overall story is what I love about it and even though certain parts seemed odd at times, I still loved the novel overall.
Carrie, Wastelands and The Long Walk on the “brilliant” tier? A man after my own heart. :) My only hard disagree was Insomnia - it _is_ a bit too long but so worth it - a great one for me.
Thank you so much for the feedback! I am glad we agreed on those three. Yes, it is long and when I do another SK read through, I’m sure I’ll enjoy it more than the first time.
I’ve always appreciated how imaginative and inventive he is and his skill at setting up a compelling scenario, but I’ve always noticed that he has trouble getting his characters to plausibly learn the crucial facts about the plot that they need to save the day (or whatever the ending is). Often they will just kind of intuit exactly what the villains are up to because, I suspect, he has trouble depicting the learning/deduction process of the heroes without just reiterating all the plot details that the reader already knows. I have a hunch that this often happens about 3/4 in to the book and the manuscript is already getting pretty thick and he has new story ideas that excite him for the next project so he just kind of ‘fudges’ the epistemic details towards the end (often literally employing some kind of supernatural clairvoyance power) and steams ahead towards the (usually) satisfying climax or showdown between the heroes and villains. This quirk can be annoying to detective story purists but if it’s the price we pay for getting all these King stories I can accept it. He has the ability to conjure nightmare imagery that feels both ancient and novel which is his true gift and almost always makes his work worth reading.

Hello, I'm new to stephen king and your vid helped a lot. Thanks. Can you recommend me some warm and light books by him? I've read joyland first and then went to It, salem's lot, misery and cell till now and I'm getting a little tired of horror books now.😢 Maybe any books more like Joyland?
The only thing I can't agree with is Insomnia in Hard to Finish. I just finished the book. It took me 2 days, and I thought it was amazing. It is actually in my top ten. But then again, people have their own thoughts and opinions.

That’s absolutely understandable. We all have a different take on King and his work but I am glad you enjoyed my list and I am actually doing a whole reread of all his work and I’m excited to embark on another long and incredible journey!
Interesting! Nothing against you like the TommyKnockers. It amazes me to see the different viewpoints others have of King’s work. I’m almost finished with his new one.
What I love about Stephen Kings Books is how they mostly fit within a shared universe of sorts revolving around the Dark Tower.
Absolutely. Couldn’t agree more!

Welcome and thank you for the support! I recommend Heart’s in Atlantis to start if you want warm and not as “horror” like.
Cycle of the Werewolf is an illustrated novella not a graphic novel. American Vampire is a graphic novel King co-wrote l.
Thank you for the correction.
Hey man, I loved list. I’ve been wondering which to read next.
Do you read fantasy?
I do read fantasy! I’m currently reading Empire of the Vampire!
