One of the annoying things about “ten year” passports is that they are really only good for 9.5 years because most countries require it to be valid for 6 months before it expires.😏
A lot will accept less than 6 months. I went to brazil with 3 weeks left on my passport but in Peru i got denied and stuck at the airport for having 4 months left
I had to renew my passport about a year ago and it took less time than the website said. In the meantime, you could take us to a German Christmas market!
If you are stuck in Germany for now would you consider making a second channel about Germany vs USA videos or living in Germany videos. I feel like you must have so many funny storytimes about all your years in Germany.
My story- - I live in Thailand, my passport was to expire in 2025. You must mail your passport to the consulate as they don’t want any extra foot traffic. I mailed it registered mail. They received it the following day. The new passport originates in the U.S. Three weeks later, my new and old passports were in my mailbox. UNBELIEVABLE. So, don’t give up hope.
This almost happened to me: I got to JFK airport and was told that I couldn't fly because I had less than six months on my US passport. Luckily, I had a Swiss residency card so they let me go. When I got to Switzerland I showed my residency card and then went to the US Consulate in Geneva to renew my passport. Photocopy your passport and residence permit before letting them out of your hands.
From state dept website: you must submit current passport when renewing your passport, unless you're renewing online. Renewing online: You can keep your most recent passport and do not need to send it in.
I know you have done some Christmas market content in the past, but maybe you can use this tike to go more in depth. Visit different ones in different German cities talk about the differences and what you enjoy most about each one. Love your content, keep up the great work!
Hi, You make excellent travel videos! As an Aussie who has only been to the Black Forest area, I'd adore seeing videos about different cities and places in Germany. 🙂
Hopefully it comes much faster. I did my renewal in July and had it back in 10 days from them receiving it in their office. I know you have to take into account the mailing time to Germany, but hopefully they will process it quicky for you
I have dual citizenship and I made sure I staggered my two passports so they expire 5 years off each other. That helps a lot, but sometimes countries don't match with the two passports but most of the time it isn't a big deal.
I put all expiration dates in my calendar and add appropriate alerts (12-, 9-, 6-, or 3-month warnings). I also put all expiration dates (DL, AAA, car inspection and registration, passport, credit cards, etc.) in my travel checklist app with each current expiration date. No last-minute surprises when I start preparing for a trip.
Thanks for the reminder. I'm cheeking my passport for renewal date and putting a reminder in my smartphone calendar for 9 months before, to book apportionment.
Morgan I believe the time you have to travel before your passport expires is now six months. I’ve been reading stories about people getting stuck because their expiration date fell within a six month window. Also, I kind of miss living in Germany so you’re right, you could be stuck somewhere worse.
I just renewed mine online. It seems it's only taking 3 weeks. Don't wait! With the change in administrations happening soon, they tend to clean house and all government processing slows down.
I almost upgraded from a balcony to a club balcony suite on our next NCL cruise until I did some investigating and found out it isn't worth the price just to get goodies and a bottle of champagne.
Wow, Germany is late to the game on dual citizenship. I got my US passport renewed at the US embassy here in Prague. Took about a week. My partner and I go to Germany, Poland or Slovakia by train. I never take my passport, just my driver license. You don't need a passport to travel within Schengen.
our province decided to stop sending out renewal notices for our health card and drivers licenses. They didn't really let people know this though. And then they eliminated license plate stickers but didn't communicate very well that you still had to do the yearly registration.
That is always my scarey time waiting on the new one. Living in Canada, I do have a Nexus so can travel to the US with that. I always give a sigh of relief when the new passport arrives. We have been told six months available. You will have to let us know how long yours will take to actually arrive.
I live in the US and I really dislike having to send my passport in the mail. It feels like you are playing Hunger Games with your identity. I keep hearing they might update the process to allow online renewal but I will believe it when I see it. Here in the US they seem to at least be processing quickly, I'm hoping for you it can be quicker than the estimate too.
Here in Australia we can apply online and present the old passport at the post office for verification without needing to send it to the passport office.
We just go to the local police station, make the paperwork and when the new passport gets there we use the old to collect the new. They punch stars in the old and you can keep it if you like.
Normally US passport renewals outside the United States are processed very quickly. Of course I could be wrong, but I suspect you'll get yours back relatively quickly. France is said to have the fastest service, with most getting their passport in about two weeks and often as quickly as 10 days.
I put renewals in my calendar so I don get caught, I have a terrible memory and know I wouldn't remember. I put everything into my calendar with reminders, it's kind of funny how people think i have such a good memory
Just got off NCL Escape. The minute I walked into my Club Balcony Suite(room # 9210lI'm saying wait this is a Suite ??? Then opening the curtains to look at the balcony. Lol and behold it's a obstructed view. Yes the bathroom was larger but it had a European tub that you need a ladder to get into. I also liked the Morgan approved bathroom door. Besides the smoked glass bathroom door on the Epic don't forget the sink being in the stateroom. Great design, NOT !
before you mail it in, try making an appointment. It's not that difficult to do. It's an online appointment scheduler. There is a new system in place for appointments after December 16, so click on the link to the new appointment system. Where is your closest office. I'm familiar with Munich, but i assume the others are the same.
I just found your channel and subscribed. I am in the US and got a passport last year at about this time of year. I payed for an expedited passport, which doubled the cost, and got it much faster than I expected in I think four weeks. I have no clue if this is available to you but if so I would suggest you do so. Nevertheless I hope you get this resolved ASAP. Hugs from the US.
Such a strange way of doing things with passports in the USA. Here we just go to the municipality, pay and gvie some information. Five working days later the new passport is there. Meanwhile you keep your current valid passport.
For a lot of countries nowadays, you need to have a passport which is valid for 6 months after the intended departure date. I'm a dual national with both British and Italian passports. Making sure that I still have enough time on at least one of them is important!
Can’t you try to renew it at the US embassy? I did while living overseas and it seems it took less time and I could hold one to my old one and getting an appointment wasn’t difficult.
ARRRRGH, Matey!!! Captain Morgan, yes - create yourself a spreadsheet with all items such as those you named plus permits, leases, vaccinations and diarize them for a few weeks/months it will require to process the renewal🤩

Look into getting an expedited passport. I thought I read that you didn't need to send in your old passport now. You might contact US consulate to see if you need to turn it in.
I've had dual US-IT citizenship since I was a kid a hundred years ago, and I made sure to get the IT passport as well instead of just the ID. Howevert, that being said, nearly all of my travel in the last 25 years since moving back to the EU 25 years ago, has been....well, IN the EU (except for a stint for a couple years in Morocco). You're right about checking the passport occasionally -- even though I nearly always need to use the IT passport, I still check the dates on both of them at least once a year to remind myself (I look at my bank card date at the same time LOL). I'm going to Berlin in a couple weeks for a month on an animal-sitting gig....Hamburg pretty far or close?? My main question here is....after 26 years, you can't get German citizenship? I wouldn't be mad if you did some videos about touristy things to do in Germany in winter while you wait- from where to eat, how to order in a restaurant , and what to see & do in winter.
You can't travel with an American passport if it's got 6 months or less before it needs to be renewed. You have to have at least 6 months and a day for you to use an American passport to travel.
Just a suggestion: maybe if you go in person to the American embassy (or any consulates) in Germany, you can show them your passport in person without having to leave it with them. Why not first book a refundable flight to the USA for just before Christmas and then try to get an in person appointment in Germany, using your booked American trip as the reason. Good luck. Marie-Louise

Mr. Morgan, this is BAU for frequent travelers. Since you have an issue -- I will share this tip and tissue. You could've flown to Miami (or one of 26 other cities, I believe you were in LA recently) and got a same-day passport and been on your way. Let your patrons and books pay for the expenses. I know this because, this year I had several flights / vacations booked I ran out of passport pagees and was within my 6-month renewal date and could not be "grounded" for 2-months. Put you big girl panties on! 😎🏄🌅🍣🌻♥

I know this because, this year I had several flights / vacations booked I ran out of passport pagees and was within my 6-month renewal date and could not be "grounded" for 2-months.
Put you big girl panties on!
