i use mine every day even though i have more expensive stuff. reminds me of a time before cellphones haha. the screen is really bright and sharp too. feels nice in the hand 🤷🏻♂️
@roberto8ag i got a handful of cheap IEMs sub $50 dollars i just grab on the way out the door, if something happens and they break it's no big deal. i leave my $200+ iems at home. can't really go wrong with any popular cheap iems in my opinion to pair it with the r1.
M0pro can be had for under $100 on sale. Twice the power. Idk about sound or functionality. Thanks for the review Andy. Always a useful guide in a world of so many options
Is the UI snappy and responsive even if you are currently playing music and scrolling through your library? I have seen a post that their R1 always crashes whenever they scroll and are currently playing something. Thank you Andy!
This Dap was rushed to market. It suffers from numerous problems low power, crashes volume implementation problems. $80 is still $80 why waste it on a dap that doesn't perform well
I got my device although it's been a few days I haven't experienced any crashes of the sort. I can really justify spending 200 dollars especially in my country on a DAP.

Yes there's difference and improvements. It is more resolving than my own Xperia 1 iV and with more features to tune the sound further to your liking. I have no idea on ROG phone unfortunately

Thanks. As far as I can see, there's no Playlist creation option on the R1 for locally stored music in the SD Card. The interface is simple as shown in this video. For ease of access I suggest you sort your music on the SD Card the way you like it and then use the File option to browse. Or you can use MP3Tag software to tag the files properly and easier to use Albums/Artists selections

Of course, there’s also R2, R3, and…R4 whose price would be a bit more intimidating. There's a section of this video how you can emulate LO to connect to external amps, you need to remove the volume restrictions first. It does not have dedicated LO function. DC06Pro is clinically more resolving with sharp imaging and DC04Pro is simply a bit better with everything from power, resolution and soundstage
I daily use the R3 Pro ( _for years_ ) the proprietary OS seems similar. Not getting into details the only downside is updating the music database especially with a 1TB SD Card: sluggish 😮💨 (*) Otherwise fun to use @ home too once connected line out to Tube Amp. (*) transfering curated playlists or just a couple of new albums.

If you are going to use your UA4, then you can run UAC2 on this R1. Connecting an external dongle to any DAPs including this R1, the sound you hearing is what being processed by your UA4 100% because the DAP now will serve only as source transport, no audio processing from the DAP internal DAC. What it means, it does not matter what DAP you use, your UA4 will always sound the same no matter where it is connected to
Is it possible to queue songs on the go without creating playlists? I mean from the locally stored files to have the option to queue the next songs as i can do with the "Play Next" option on Spotify or Tidal
Local playback don't even have Playlist option. It's all real time playback from the available selections of play from Folder, Artists, Albums or Genres. Only Tidal have Playlist which you create in advance
Hey Andy, I saw that you have the Pilgrim and the Noir on your tier list but no dedicated review. Are your scores from that short listening impressions vid or did you get to spend some time with them? Asking because everyone and their mother says that the silver Pilgrim is a detail beast but your score there is waaay lower than some cheaper alternatives.
I did spend considerable time with them and my scores reflect what I think of them, no more no less. Cheaper alternatives? price does not determine the results. A much more expensive Vision Ears VE10 is lower than both Pligrims. And they are not "way lower" either as you can see they are very competitive in the upper tier

Proper headphones is a very subjective matter. What is great for one person can be the worst for another. But in general, for anything under $100 there's just so many to choose from now. I would say that under $100 category I would highly recommend DUNU Titan S2 and for under $50, Kefine Klean

The R1 having this feature is nice but certainly not exclusive to Hiby devices, that part was unclear in your review. Also to get to MSEB is very counter intuitive as was many of the OS functions. It is reliable as can be expected like when connected to an Android phone. I have only tried with ONIX Alpha XI and DC07Pro, two of my most feature rich dongles. Battery endurance on dongles are shorter since the dongles are drawing power from the R1 and you can expect 10 hours at best

I just want something that will play a full discography easily, one album after another and it's like the people who make music playing software simply won't make things easy for people to do so. This thing looks to be the same, I can't believe it's so hard to scan the metadata and at the very least sort albums by year instead of name, it's ridiculous.
All the daps are kind of pointless to me. If any company make something look like a smartphone why they don't put sim card function on this! I like music but i don't like to carry multiple devices for multiple functions. I hope Dap manufacturers wil make Moondrop Miad 01 like devices more.
The point of dedicated DAP is to not have any RF inducing components and there's always need for this sort of devices even if it does not fit the requirement of some. There's everything for everyone
While I know what you're saying is absolutely correct I think that in this day and age you and I along with everyone in the Community knows that dongle docks have gotten so much better than they've ever been a simple dongle can turn your phone into an audio Powerhouse

But in the same vein this DAP is lighter than most smartphones today as they reach 200 grams, granted most daps also reach that, players are used specifically for music while phones can do almost anything you want. The MIAD smartphone is also really expensive compared to my phone. So this DAP is a useful device for someone who doesn't like to lug their phones with dongle dacs.
I tried to settle with type c dac dongle but my phone type c port become lose due to extensive use of type c dac dongle. Now my last hope is buy a lg v60 and join weirdo club! 🫤

It's fairly smooth on my R1, not laggy even when on Playback in the background. And never crash too, not even when doing streaming of Tidal

Daps have a way more functionalities than a phone and a dongle. I used my r3 pro as a bt dongle and a transport for my stereo setup too.

Yes of course. R1 is designed to be used as is with its internal CS43131 DAC and it plays Bitperfect without resampling

I would say you can definitely consider M1Plus despite being slightly bigger and there's still Hidizs AP80X

That's right, the bigger the sd card the longer it takes especially on these DAPs with slower processors

On the R3 if the sd card is formatted to ntfs the database scan is much quicker than if it's in exfat or fat32.

There's quite a few to choose from, one of them that I would recommend for ESS Sabre house sound is the ROSELSA RS9039

It's a prescription glasses with Zeiss optics to treat my eyes refractive issues with astigmatism, hyperopia and myopia both outdoors and indoors. Be glad that you are not burdened with these issues. Thanks

I just want something that will play a full discography easily, one album after another and it's like the people who make music playing software simply won't make things easy for people to do so. This thing looks to be the same, I can't believe it's so hard to scan the metadata and at the very least sort albums by year instead of name, it's ridiculous.
All the daps are kind of pointless to me. If any company make something look like a smartphone why they don't put sim card function on this! I like music but i don't like to carry multiple devices for multiple functions. I hope Dap manufacturers wil make Moondrop Miad 01 like devices more.
The point of dedicated DAP is to not have any RF inducing components and there's always need for this sort of devices even if it does not fit the requirement of some. There's everything for everyone
While I know what you're saying is absolutely correct I think that in this day and age you and I along with everyone in the Community knows that dongle docks have gotten so much better than they've ever been a simple dongle can turn your phone into an audio Powerhouse
@@Drakken2030True. But in the same vein this DAP is lighter than most smartphones today as they reach 200 grams, granted most daps also reach that, players are used specifically for music while phones can do almost anything you want.
The MIAD smartphone is also really expensive compared to my phone. So this DAP is a useful device for someone who doesn't like to lug their phones with dongle dacs.
I tried to settle with type c dac dongle but my phone type c port become lose due to extensive use of type c dac dongle. Now my last hope is buy a lg v60 and join weirdo club! 🫤
Another point in favor of DAPs is that you don't needlessly waste the battery of your phone. Class A amplification draws quite a bit of power.
I have another question. Is possible connect Bluetooth headphones to this player? I didn't see any review try Bluetooth headphones... I understood Bluetooth option in description in ad. is for headphones.
I just bought very good brand new Bluetooth headphones for 12€ from 100€ original price, because only this player. 🫠
The answer to this question is at 02:47 yes it can connect to any BT headphones that supports LDAC, SBC, AAC or even APTX
