there's a huuuuuge middle ground between being "slaves", versus working for a company that gives you an equitable share of the revenue they're making off of you, LOL. getting paid 200 bucks to eat Doritos only sounds like a good deal until you realize the actual facts: that they're profiting off of her image, in total perpetuity, to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars.
that's the entire scheme of manipulative companies like this: they offer a few fun-sounding perks to people who are trying to break into the industry and tell them exactly the lie that you're repeating: "you couldn't have made it anywhere without us!!"
because it's such a cash grab. they know that when prominent buzzfeed workers leave they tend to make a video about it, and that video makes a lot of money, and they want that money and control over their PR. feels crappy because it's keeping the creator from getting the money themselves and from speaking their own mind
Visiting here one year later, and her show Abbott Elementary is one stellar program! She's simply brilliant!!
OMG! I watched BROKE all the time and loved it. Never knew that was Quinta, and look at her now!
It's weird that this is actually on BuzzFeed but she's seriously so cool and definitely the former BuzzFeeder most headed towards mainstream success (like she has her own TV show! We stan!). I remember the good ole days so it's fun looking back on that and seeing how many people have found success and fulfillment on their own since. I hope that her book and TV show do well!
Congratulations, Quinta!
She is one of my favorites and I miss this the BuzzFeed era!
i was trying to figure out where I recognized her from on abbott elementary, and gottdamn she left BuzzFeed and then rocketed to the stratosphere. hope she only goes up from here
She won 3 Emmy’s for her writing, acting, and directing of abbot elementary!!
This was so inspiring on how she worked her way up! I wonder if she still keeps in touch with her friends from Buzzfeed
She works with Justin Tan on Abbott Elementary. He is a writer there since it premiered.
She left so she could be getting ready to get her Emmys and Golden Globes!
"Broke" was one of my favorite series to watch!
