From what I'm hearing, DSP was looking for a completely safe avenue for competition. He didn't want to play sports, he didn't want to study or out think anyone. He was, again, looking for the path of lest resistance all the while kicking the can of financial responsibility down the road. People like Phil really feel like they will land on their feet but that's only due to having some kind of parental figure to fall back on. Whenever the consequences of his actions actually catch up to him he always literally passes the buck to someone else; his parents, his audience, the federal government. One day those things will be gone and Phil is really going to wish he learned how to do something other than beg.
