- GEG is developing the detailed design for the construction of the new Bugesera Rwanda main airport in the capital Kigali by Mota-Engil Africa. The new airport will provide a world-class gateway for Kigali and Rwanda, with the flexibility to expand and develop as a key hub airport within the East Africa region. The New Airport will have an initial capacity of 1.7 million passengers per year and an estimated cost of about 375 million euros (construction value for the 1st phase).

I think Rwanda Air wants to take over Ethiopian Airlines as the number 1 airline in Africa and become a hub. Brilliant
I can see Rwanda wanting that exactly, they will definitely be a great hub for east Africa especially if not the main hub with the way they are developing
Ethiopian airlines already finishing up $6B airport in 2029. Has capacity of 100 million/year. Since current airport with 30 million passenger per year capacity is overwhelmed
@@amanueltadesse4058 it’s not just about having an airport - it’s a package of things that they can offer including better service.
I agree but it’s tough at this stage to compete Ethiopian airlines, especially being geographically close to it’s hub. I think $2B airport is feasible, hope it will have passengers
@@amanueltadesse4058 Yes, true. But they are probably considering a potential increase over time. Although it’s tough to compete with Ethiopian, they definitely have room for it if they are well managed. From everything I’ve heard from Ethiopian and my own experience with them, the service lacks a lot of quality and if they don’t step up, they’ll lose their clients in a snap of a finger if another great competitor gets into the play.

The construction of The Bugesera International Airport has been taken over by Qatar Airways. Almost doubling its capacity and radical changes in the facilities provided.
I know they have become the main investors in the project but are you saying the Airport will now be even bigger than originally planned to accommodate the added capacity of visitors?
