It was so boring! The whole book talks about how bad his life is, but he never makes a change to change it

I love that you always talk about books people don’t really talk about on BookTube or any other bookish spaces online. ❤

Your comment about authors writing speculative fiction without actually reading or enjoying speculative fiction reminds me of a horror movie I watched recently. It was terrible (like really really bad), and there are interviews with the director who talks about not watching or enjoying horror, and this movie being their first attempt at horror. It really shows when an artist doesn't have respect for the genre they're attempting to utilize.

Great commentary on the list of books. I read the Crouch book as well but came at it with a science background and prior knowledge of the genetics behind the premise. Some of the moral issues that are discussed in the book are truly occurring so I can imagine (within reason) this happening. But it was over the top. And the explanation of the science was redundant at times.

I love Austen but I didn’t get on with Persuasion at all, it’s quite dreary. I think you will love Stoner. I want to try Sea of tranquility even though I disliked station Eleven x

As a huge Mandel fan, I agree with everything you said about Sea of Tranquility, definitely on the low tier of her work. She has other novels like Last Night in Montreal that are not speculative fiction, but quiet and melancholic that I feel like would be worth a try! (And of course Station Eleven, her most famous work which is speculative, but quietly so).

Agreed, both of the other two works of hers I read (Station Eleven and The Glass Hotel) were far superior to Sea of Tranquility.

I'd be so interested to hear your take on "The Tiger's Wife" by Tea Obreht--one of my few ventures into magical realism, and incorporates fable/family stories. I don't read a lot of magical realism, so I really, really enjoyed this book but also felt like I didn't get everything from it that maybe it was trying to share.

Coz shes a young person . Most people dont change much from their late teens to 30. Unless people gain or lose a lot of weight... there isnt even much change from twenties to mid-late thirties.
