The 747-8 is such a majestic sky queen. You really don’t appreciate how LOOOOOONNNNNGGG she is until you see a video like this. My compliments to the Southwest passenger-that was excellent spur of the moment videography.
The helicopters are from the Australian Army Aviation Corps not the RAAF. They are the Tiger Attack helicopters, NH90 Taipans and Chinooks helicopters.
Not sure but at the airport where I trained they had 3 parallel runways in operation all the time. When they introduced it there was a lot of criticism because of the amount of GA training going on with pilots overshooting downwind legs. Anyway my first time doing solo T and Gs on the new setup I had a Caribou land on the keys at exactly the same time as me. They landed to a complete stop in less than a quarter of the distance I needed for a C172. Show offs.
yeesh, that Emirates abort! Plane appeared to be at a nearly 45° angle to the runway, then appears to nearly stop before righting itself and finally bolting back into the air. Must've been a helluva ride in the cabin! Great episode.
I have flown many times with Emirates, no problems. But apparently the First Officers only get to fly or land when the are going for command. Otherwise it’s the captain or the autopilot doing the landings.
And the last 747 came off Boeing's production line yesterday. I flew on 747s maybe a dozen times and it was always a wonderful ride. Seriously, the end of an era.
It was after 20 years of flying that I had an instructor teach me in a simulator that aggressive aileron and rudder deflections, especially rudder, were the best and proper way to land with strong and gusty crosswinds. I found this method made for easier and less stressful crosswind landings.

"You can always Go-Around"! ( As long as the TR's [thrust reversers] are not deployed)- The Spoilers will automatically deploy on touchdown and automatically retract when you power up for the Go-Around.

Not trying to downplay, he did an excellent job. Most would be surprised though how right above the runway things tend to smooth way out, the final approach is usually the hardest part

A lot of aircraft are designed that when you abort the landing, the gear will touch down before you proceed to climb out. It is amazing how late one can decide to abort, which means the engine spool time is actually the problem, and not the kissing the ground
They aren’t designed like that. They are designed to land. This pilot decided not to continue with that. In my opinion, u are on the ground, might as well stick the landing. Unless there is not enough runway left, which u can’t see in this video.

The Bombardier pilot in Hapifax landed a greaser in my opinion, if the prevailing conditions are taken into account. He was sawing away at the yoke that whole time!
The Dash can be a bitch to handle in high-velocity and gusty wind conditions but it's always controllable. It's just a lot of work as this vid clearly shows. The huge rudder really pushes it around in a strong crosswind. A 6-8 leg day in conditions like this makes that first frosty-pop especially deeelish.
Lufthansa had no cross winds... I once landed on a Thai flight from Bangkok to Phucket and my window was facing the landing strip while the nose faced towards the control tower. I have never been so scared in a flight, If I could I would have shewed my nails up to my elbows. But as soon as the back wheels touched the pilot instantly pulled that plane straight, was absolutely unbelievable. Hats off to a very good pilot!

I agree! I flew the 747 for 12 years, and was the easiest aircraft that I've ever landed. The stability and inertia combine to make great landings.

Been a week or 2 if not more since the last 747 came out of the production line for Atlas
It was also a wonderful ride for the passengers on the Japan Airlines Flight 123
It was delivered yesterday. It came off the line in December.

The runway at NCL, newcastle airport is only around 2550m long so clearly the pilots calculated the best course of action was to lift off again

Ah that was in Nova Scotia ? My guess would have been Greenland since they use Dash-8 also.
