I love this! I have been figuring out my favorite method lately as I am still pretty new. I for now have found my happy place with dip liquids but gel top coat. I love to file nails! The file and buff step for me is therapeutic so I don't have a problem with that at all! Also it also means I don't mind filing off that top coat before I soak off lol.

Great information! I only recently became aware that you could use gel in place of dip liquids, which is very helpful to my budget. I have tons of dip powders, but all of my dip liquids quickly deteriorated, and would need replacing. Thank you for this comparison.

I 100% agree with the top coat! I love so many dip top coats and think they’re just as good, if not better sometimes, than gel. I am currently team gel dip method, because I like to keep my manis on for a solid week and HATE removing with acetone, especially so often. I find I can quickly remove gel with my efile, but it took a lot to find what works! I keep a builder gel underneath, so acetone removal is not ideal for me, and when I use peel base my manis come off within two days 😭 I’ve tried all the ways, but currently just sticking to gel dip without a peel and efiling at a week works best. But I got to say, I do miss the quickness and hardness of dip liquids!!

Such a great video! I get dip flu pretty bad, and I was sucking it up and sticking with dip liquids due to the chance of color change. But after having COVID I find the dip liquids really mess with my asthma worse than before so now I pure gel method. I do love the cleaner application and having time to clean up my cuticles. But i do miss dip liquids too. I didnt have luck with the brand of low oder that I tried but might look into another brand some day.

Great video! Gel method is my only option. I had such severe symptoms from dip flu that I almost gave away all my powders. The gel method was a game changer. My nails are very brittle so I am now experimenting with builder gel base which enables me to file down the color and infill. Not sure how this is going to work out. Do you have advice with this?

  • @jillyfae4895

I am forever team gel! When I was first dipping, I used tips. While initially, the manis would look pretty, I couldn't do fills. I got greenies and gave the whole thing up. ImPress press on nails while my own recovered from acetone damage. Last year I tried full cover tips and was hooked. I've tried dip liquids over the full covers and I do far better with thinner application of gel. Plus, with gel, I can wear sugared nails and they don't bother me. Gel fills for me are far easier. Great video!

I have purchased several of the brands you have recommended. I am a big fan of dip powders but can’t get them to last longer than a week. So I only managed to get one hand done this week lol I used nailboo dip powder base activator and used a gel too coat and so far I have had no lifting or chipping. As always great, informative video!!! Team Dip liquids all the way 🙌🏼 I don't agree with the scoring for application, because you can pour over dip powder and get it to apply smoother - I personally don't buff, only reshape my nails. Low odor base and Glossy 2.0 are my absolute go to, gel top coat not only feels rubbery, but also peels on me on day 3-4 no matter what I do to prevent it, so the longevity factor should be considered too.

Mentally it somehow is so much more satisfying to file and buff before finishing a mani than having to file for 10 years to remove an old mani. My goal is to allow my natural nail to grow without roughing the top. I keep them short but have never had natural nails that grew or had any length. The coatings give them strength and hardness. So sorry to hear about your dip flu symptoms! From my understanding, dip powder liquids’ fumes are what bother peoples upper respiratory systems. It’s basically super glue. I did get to try out Color My World dips (on Etsy), odorless dip liquids and they were great! You would still need the activator from any brand, but her base + top coat doesn’t have an odor. The base is really thin and slow drying. The top coat is great because you still get to do 2 coats so you don’t sacrifice the shine for smell. Here’s the link if you’d like to check it out 💗

I use my gel base with my dip liquids.

Wouldn't it be an extra step for gel having to do a base and top coat? I use OG and Double Dipped dip method. Nothing gel. Don't have a lamp or any of that stuff. I don't use Acetone because I use 2 layers of clear on my natural nail and then dip color so I just file down to clear, do another thin layer then color again. No Acetone cause that eats your nails and mine are already weak.

Sounds like you’ve got a great system down for your nails! 🙌🏼💕 I like to use peel base to avoid the soak off.
I’m not 100% sure I fully understand your question. For the gel method, the gel base basically replaces the dip base. But instead of activator, we cure in a lamp. Then the gel top coat replaces the dip top coat but instead of 2 layers of gel top coat, you’ll only need 1. I hope that helps, but please let me know if I misunderstood! 💕

@SipAndDip that makes sense then. Yeah I'm still contemplating peel base for that reason too. Its alot of filind down to the clear. Haven't tried it yet but I want to. Thanks for your videos. I only watch you and Nicole's for tips.

@@dinapierson4973 you could also put peel base on top of your clear dip powder and then do your color 🙌🏼 that way just the color pops off and the clear stays 💕 thank you so much for watching and supporting! I appreciate you!

Gel liquid because of not the fumes seems easier

Very informative video, and you’re right, it does come down to personal preference. I myself prefer the dip liquids, gel always irritate the skin around my nails even when I’m super careful.

Oh really?! I have heard so many say that!! Some gels legit make my fingers feel sore 😮‍💨 and the moment I remove it my fingers feel better. It’s wild!! And also makes me paranoid 🤣🙈
