While the engine looks uncomplicated as such, the tolerances and material strengths must be spot on because the forces that every last nut bolt and washer is under during a run is massive
i figured it would be, one way or another lol. these guys are masters of their craft, im sure they literally account for every nut, washer and bolt. we are human after all lol..... just glad it wasnt found at 250mph lol.
Dave Micolichek haha but the saying is true, shit happens. I have a top fuel dragster piston and Conrod in my room from the Rocky Mountain Nationals in Edmonton, Alberta. It had a whole torched/blasted through it due to a loose fuel line causing the cylinder to run lean. It cost them the race, and they got lucky it didn’t damage the block.
Yes.. there are 3 points of fuel entry on a TF CAR.. IN THE BLOWER, IN THE HEAD AND IN THE INTAKE PORT.... TAKES ALOT OF FUEL TO MAKE THIS BEAST GO 300MPH
Austin S a dream job where you don't get paid much, eat high fat food for every meal, travel all the time and are treated like a servant. Mechanics are disposable. I wonder how I know....you notice there are no older guys wrenching.........
Probably a great video. I got motion sickness in the first 30 seconds so I couldn't watch it. Would love to see it when filmed from a fixed camera or two...
@DonSchumacherRacing lm very much interested in applying for a pit crew position working on the race car what credentials and/or qualifications would l need to apply?
Monte Stu yeah, most likely to prevent warping. Those heads are still hot hot hot, fresh off of a run. I’d imagine they would loosen each bolt before removing, to minimize shock to the head. Notice they are milled aluminum - high dollar and easy to warp.
Monte Stu The bolts are close pitch threads and are torqued down. Need a breaker bar (leverage) to crack the tension. Once cracked, he goes back over with the rattle gun and zips them out. This process is actually quicker and more gentle than flogging with the rattle gun straight away.
Kenuel Villodas because you have 50 minutes to tear the engine down put it back together, warm up to set the timing and idle and then to the staging lanes.
Dave Micolichek I get that- but I won’t ride a bike above 400cc because *I* am a loose nut with no speed self control... You gotta be a little nuts to make it through enough passes to get a competition license in most classes of NHRA lol
Alex Lavoie That doesn't matter. Who cares if they're tearing down cars quickly or not. It's a cool piece, and I can see why anyone would want it just for the shop. Why do you think that you can keep information from someone just because they probably won't be using it for whatever intended purpose? God damned control freak.
Scarf im saying this because i dont see the use unless as i said youre doing this. Theres trays avaible on the market and thing like sparkplug and pushrod organiser too
its all designed for efficency and corporations like GE hire people from japan to come here and teach lean manufacturing. America invented lean manufacturing you are watching it right here those millions you spent bringing japaneese instructors here would have been much better spent keeping the money here in america and having a few crew chiefs come around and show your factorys what streamlined lean really is.
Life is sooo much easier with the proper tools and a place for everything and everything in it's place.
What separates the amateurs from the pros
Me- Ziploc bags in a big ass pile
I could take the plug wires off. After that they'd push me aside and tell me to go get waters for everyone.
Never saw the turn from that perspective. Wow..
Keep em coming.
And I still can't find that 10mm socket
lol
Always that 10mm.. "nope thats 11, where df is my 10mm..
I tried to wipe there hair off my screen, hahah, F%^ker
Lol
These guys are the type of guys who always knows where tf the 10mm socket is
Plot twist they done away with all 10 mm on these so they never loose it.😆
Yes
And just like that POOF!!!!! @3:12 the supercharger is off the car already. Lordy, you guys are the superheros of technicians everywhere lol
While the engine looks uncomplicated as such, the tolerances and material strengths must be spot on because the forces that every last nut bolt and washer is under during a run is massive
It’s crazy how fast they are props to DSR for having such a quick group of men
Wow. Simply wow. This is my dream job to work on one of these cars
Golf clap. Like watching a guitarist take a blistering solo. Well done.
Awesome vid , I love when blower/intake are out .The 6(no 8 omg) nuts of studs are so easy , nice!
any one else notice that washer that got dropped on top of the head and didnt get picked up?
i figured it would be, one way or another lol. these guys are masters of their craft, im sure they literally account for every nut, washer and bolt. we are human after all lol..... just glad it wasnt found at 250mph lol.
Left a comment before i read yours. Yep, somethings in there!

Why is this video so satisfying to watch?
I started rebuilding my push mower engine a year ago but now I have nothing to prove so I will just take my time.
Good times. I wrenched on Bruce Littion and JR Todd's Top Fuel. Starting on a small budget Top Fuel this season. I love Nitro!
You guys should make one like this but at the shop where everyone not rushing and explain the process be awesome
They have a video of a in shop rebuild
th-cam.com/video/xTsphmCn8mg/w-d-xo.html
Was that a fuel line going into the back of the head?!? You’re kidding!
Yes.. there are 3 points of fuel entry on a TF CAR.. IN THE BLOWER, IN THE HEAD AND IN THE INTAKE PORT.... TAKES ALOT OF FUEL TO MAKE THIS BEAST GO 300MPH
A dream job, Working on the fastest cars in the world in high intensity and stressful environment. Coordinated chaos
Austin S a dream job where you don't get paid much, eat high fat food for every meal, travel all the time and are treated like a servant. Mechanics are disposable. I wonder how I know....you notice there are no older guys wrenching.........
1:24 - liquid hot MAGMA
I heard that it takes the crew about 4 minutes to tear down the engine to the bare block
how hot is the engine
Burning Hot. Even with gloves it must hurt to hold the head and the manifold like he did.
thats very few minutes after the run
Very oh wait u mean temperatue sorry
Probably a great video. I got motion sickness in the first 30 seconds so I couldn't watch it. Would love to see it when filmed from a fixed camera or two...
click the settings gear at bottom right of vid then change the speed
*"Funny car head removal". I thought I was going to get to see internals
how often do they tear theengines down? they seem to be in a rush
This is done after each run.
Engines are built to run for 4 seconds. That's it. Tear down and build again to run another 4 seconds. I could watch it all day.
DonSchumacherRacing doesn't hot disassembly damage the components? Like head warping and such?
Like TGSR just wrote, the engine's life is 4 seconds.
wheels so what is being re used? Or new block+head every run?
It would've been nicer to see a wider field of view.
Still very impressive workflow, ty for upload.
Camera was trash hah
weirdest porn i ever watched
My proudest fap
My uncle is the assistant crew chief for Matt Hagen
so is mine.....
Same
every round including qualifying rounds which there are 4
So weird! My uncle is to!
Yeah and Don Schimacher is my Grandfather and Tony Schumacher is my dad🙄🙄
How come my mechanic doesn't work that fast?
Okay, now do it again with a set focus so it's not blurry 99% of the time.
Glasses can't keep up.. sorry.
I like watching but give me a tool and ill probably take all afternoon taking the headers off lol
Incredible!
@DonSchumacherRacing lm very much interested in applying for a pit crew position working on the race car what credentials and/or qualifications would l need to apply?
"Do you have a life? You do? Sorry."
Love their proffesinalism
More videos like there's please!
MISSED MY CALLING IN LIFE.
Billy Knott never to late man
Why are the head bolts hand loosened versus just using the impact for the entire process? Potential head warping?
Monte Stu yeah, most likely to prevent warping. Those heads are still hot hot hot, fresh off of a run. I’d imagine they would loosen each bolt before removing, to minimize shock to the head. Notice they are milled aluminum - high dollar and easy to warp.
Monte Stu The bolts are close pitch threads and are torqued down. Need a breaker bar (leverage) to crack the tension. Once cracked, he goes back over with the rattle gun and zips them out. This process is actually quicker and more gentle than flogging with the rattle gun straight away.
It helps prevent damaging (pulling) threads in the aluminum cylinder block during disassembly.
And I thought I was fast at doing tuneups lol
I was expecting a funny video about a guy taking apart a regular engine
And it took me a year to do my LS conversion. Ugh
My dad works on Jack's Car
Why so much rush??
That's why they blow on the pulls
Kenuel Villodas because you have 50 minutes to tear the engine down put it back together, warm up to set the timing and idle and then to the staging lanes.
Who finds the loose nut?
wheelitzr2 the engine every time.
LOL - whoever looks and sees who sits in the driver’s seat
Dave Micolichek I get that- but I won’t ride a bike above 400cc because *I* am a loose nut with no speed self control... You gotta be a little nuts to make it through enough passes to get a competition license in most classes of NHRA lol
Why do they call out what they’re taking off?
That tool box though. Anyone know if those are sold to the public or are they only made for their race team
Daniel Senteno Looks easy to build yourself.
i dont see why you would need a such tray. unless you actually have a racing team and teardown engine each runs
Alex Lavoie That doesn't matter. Who cares if they're tearing down cars quickly or not. It's a cool piece, and I can see why anyone would want it just for the shop.

Alex Lavoie So you think you are the gatekeeper of information.
With so much money on the line they should use electric tools
Air tools have a higher rpm, so even though electric is more portable it would cost them extra time
Did i see a loose nut laying in that head?
Wheres the funny part
They had the heads off before I can get the hood open on my piece of crap car
Wow
I can do that........quick, someone get me the owner's manual.
Pfft. I could do that... In like an hour..
Mopar😍
Keep the camera stationary, don't need to see the tool box. Out of focus and way to much motion. Are the Pistons top secret didn't get to see them.
The camera is on a pair of glasses worn by the crew member. That's why it moves around. It's a POV video.
It's kinda better because we can see how they take it apart from their point if view
Meh, Tony the technician Does it Better
To much moving around got dizzy watching
Twin spark 2 valve i see
ピンぼけ、映像が安定してない、船酔いする。┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌ フゥゥ〜

Misleading title... I didn’t laugh once.
Anoying autofocus
B
This wasnt funny at all.
Descent time and with pulling the body off. Your air gun won’t back the 185 tops and 175 bottoms off?? Lol try a snap on gun🤣🤣jk that was a great job
Duude this looks sped up
Santiago Velo Barros dude its not
