    There's something chilling about how Marilyn sang "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend", specifically the lines "men grow cold as girls grow old" and "we all lose our charm in the end". It's so painfully ironic that she never grew old and never lost that charm because we never got to see her age past her mid-late thirties. Marilyn Monroe will never die or age because Norma Jean's death immortalized her.

      Great point. It’s almost parallel to the live by the sword die by the sword thing. Even if she didn’t want to, Marilyn certainly became extremely invested in flirtation, sex appeal, physical appearance, etc. Again, I don’t think this was her fault at all but her only way of making money. But it also seems like she got some self-worth out of feeling pretty. This is probably true for anyone who gets paid for how they look, it’s bound to rub off on your sense of worth.
      How sad that she couldn’t face the future of getting old and “ugly”. I love the line by Oscar Wilde, “the ugly can be beautiful. The pretty, never.”

    When I finished watching the movie, I was angry, confused and dissapointed. But the movie never escaped my mind and I started to think about what I saw and began to appreciate it a whole lot more. Now, it's understandable why this movie is so controversial, because it touches upon showing one of the most beloved actresses in the world in a very dark and unsettling way.
    You need to understand a couple of things before watching;
    - this is not a biopic about Marilyn Monroe, at least not in a traditional way (both Andrew Dominik and Joyce Carol Oates even said that this movie is a work of fiction mixed with some real events). It's an experimental art house movie with elements of psychological thriller and even horror. At times it reminded me on Mulholland Drive by David Lynch; like a descent into a horrible nightmare that you can't escape from.
    - the movie is not interested in Marilyn Monroe's public image. People still worship this perfect and glamorous image of MM, but tend to overlook how tragic her life really was. Abused by her mother and most of men in her life, in search of love and acceptance, being marked as "dumb blonde" and reduced to sexism and humilitaion by people she trust the most. Blonde is a movie about this part of her life that not a lot of people want to talk about because it doesn't go well with their perfect idea of a young beatiful women who went to Hollywood and make it big.
    - the movie is meant to be a giant slap in the face to the "golden age of Hollywood" in the 50s and 60s. Let's face it; this era of Hollywood is still shown in a very positive light (how many "love letters to Hollywood" we have on Oscars every year?), yet behind the closed doors horrible things happened; harassements of women, abuse, violence, alcoholism, drug addictions, sexism etc. And they way I see it; Marilyn Monroe was one of the biggest victims of film industry.
    But like I said; this movie is not for everyone. It's dark, brutal, depressing, weird and doesn't hold any punches. The backlash is understandable, but I admire Dominik and De Armas for taking so many risks and make a movie that is not trying to please the crowd and feed it with cheap nostalgia. And like it or not; things in this movie are happening to women all over the world every day.

The movie was more of what Hollywood can do to someone that is unstable and gets into that business, especially in those days. @@acer4237 I’m upset as a lifetime fan of hers, because she specifically stated she did not want to be made into a joke, and she was made into one. I understand his passion or his vision or whatever it may be that drove him to make this, but I wish he hadn’t. She suffered a lot, yes, absolutely, but he made the whole film about an abortion that isn’t even on record to have happened. She did not call Joe or Arthur or anyone else “daddy” (especially every two seconds? The purpose was lost on me) and the sex scenes were exploitative. Why he took RUMORS of an affair and turned them into grotesque POV shots of her being forced to give him a blowjob - I don’t know. Even if all of this were FACT (it isn’t) it wasn’t done respectfully or tastefully. They filmed her death scene exactly where she died, like the actual spot. That’s not cool. She suffered greatly but she wasn’t nothing but a victim. He painted her a victim and nothing else, and most of the shit he painted her a victim to she never was. She deserves a better script with better intentions imo. :/

    This film honestly felt like someone was struggling with a teen pornography fetish while they wrote the script. How many times did they need to have Ana say “Daddy” while she struggled with daddy issues? There were scenes of her being beaten & still saying “Daddy ” in an endearing & bewildered tone. Spotlighting her submissiveness. Extremely devalued her character by using her wide innocent eyes in crude & abusive situations. Perhaps the most realistic portrayal of Hollywood & the porn industry. Where grimy men in power exploit women ruthlessly to benefit themselves until the next beauty comes along. Marilyn was merely a sad eyed puppet in the majority of this film. The cinematography, costume, makeup, set design were done beautifully. The script & plot should be put up in flames with the rest of her character’s childhood home.

I left the room for a few minutes and came back to the scene in the president's bedrroom. If you have seen the movie, you know what I'm referring to. I live in Spain, and I remember growing up watching Ana de Armas in the spanish teen tv show "El Internado" like 15 years ago, it makes me so happy for her seeing all the work she's gotten in Hollywood, and now...getting to portray the one and only Marilyn Monroe, gosh...I feel so proud of her and how far she's come ^^

She was smart and alot of the hollywood men and companies like Fox didn't like it. I think she was quite a rebel. I also think she made her own movie Bus Stop.
    She also had a horrible childhood.. and in my opinion she was strong and determined to make it in life.
    She also endured miscarriages and wanted a child so badly... she was a good woman. And I feel honestly people took advantage of her. She had a simple passion to act dance and sing.. and I hope this movie isn't making it seem like she's some crazy selfish woman she was an amazing creative intelligent woman. GOSH THIS MOVIE WAS SO DISAPPOINTING. I usually hate seeing public comments trashing a movie no matter what it is - yet I just have to make a comment on this film. I’m not even a devoted fan of Marilyn by any means, so do with that what you will. Admittedly, the cinematography and much of the scene work was breathtaking and artfully executed. Really, just stunning. From the colours, to the gorgeous black & white scenes, it’s beautiful. It was special to see some of Marilyn’s famous portraits come to life in real moving scenes. And Ana de Armas was incredible in her portrayal. Her acting was great visually, including her uncanny resemblance, to her incredibly accurate mannerisms. It felt like you were actually watching Marilyn at many moments. The only small bit that shook that image was the occasional slight accent, but you can’t hold it against her - it’s easy to overlook and arguably Ana is one of the best actors for the role. You can tell she worked incredibly hard and embodied what she could of Marilyn very well. The material *however* was an absolute sheer waste of Ana’s talent. SERIOUSLY. Marilyn had a very hard life, both pre-fame and during her rise as a star. Behind the glamour, she was repeatedly taken advantage of and objectified and abused. She genuinely faced many challenges, and this is what you expect this film to dive in to from the way it is framed in teasers and trailers. This movie summarises this aspect however with no humanising truth or actual insight after all. It anchors Marilyn’s entire character primarily in bursts of sobbing, sprinkled in with sudden screaming fests, as well as high impact sex scenes ranging from threesomes, simulated blow jobs, or rape. In fact most of her scenes are literally just of her crying, or being naked. It all comes across as simply for shock value, nothing more. The added myths in the storyline are unfortunately all pointless too; it could have focused on so many real life references and experiences of hers, as enough revealed snippets of her private life exist to create such a story. Her struggles with her emotional and mental wellbeing are portrayed very unrealistically - substituted instead with huge exaggeration and almost continual manic meltdowns. They truly wrote her character as this constantly unhinged & almost depraved being, either as a sexed-up or drugged-up object quite literally passed & dragged along from man to man. Marilyn was a shiny sex symbol in the spotlight yet was also hard-working and really quite articulate and sincere in person, but none of this is expressed. Even in some real life interviews, she is vulnerable as to describe her unhappiness and emptiness in life with great self awareness & emotional intelligence. There is virtually no such implication in this film, where she is greatly dumbed down and seemingly overwhelmed with unrelenting “daddy issues” proposed as the core of her woes. You anticipate this film to make her more human. It does the very opposite. All in all, underlying this unexpectedly bizarre characterisation of Marilyn, it really is as though she is written to have zero consciousness or autonomy as a person. I found myself increasing the speed of the film just to finish it faster - something I’ve never done before even in bad films or shows! It lacks so much… no… ANY depth and intimacy for a film that claims to show a behind-the-scenes insight into the real Marilyn, Norma Jane. Instead it condescends her, and strips her of all dignity. The quality of cast and cinematography feel so disjointed from the amateur, weak script writing itself. It’s very fractured; like a weird, cheap montage with flashes of her performances amongst her never-ending, overwhelming instability. It’s a really bad prototype of a movie, that somehow, tragically made its way into a professional studio.

    i have been in love with ana since she did knock knock which admittedly isn’t a great film but her character & her beauty just got me & her face is so beautiful & her acting is always incredible & the fact that english isn’t her first language & she’s not from the US but made it as marilyn in this is so amazing & im so glad i discovered her before she got into bigger films because watching her career unfold more & more every year has made me so happy that someone i saw great potential in, & felt that she’d always be cast as the pretty girl whos latina & will always base her character around her accent. luckily that has changed & she’s being recognized & getting roles that just let her be her & whatever character she is playing she aces. i just adore her & she’s one of the most beautiful women i have ever seen & her in knock knock definitely confirmed my bisexuality lmao, that film has a cool concept & it’s really cool seeing two young girls who are seemingly typical party girls turn so dark was really fun & new to me, the first like 15 minutes were incredibly boring & awkward & keanu just was so off in that, i feel like he has difficulty playing roles in certain films but not others with the same premise. his acting was very out of place & i understand the character is meant to act awkward but it felt like he actually wasn’t comfortable & wasn’t putting much emotion into it. until the scene where he’s in the chair yelling that was really good & i’ve never seen him yell & seem so desperate like that, then arguably later near the end when he is supposed to be terrified it was kinda funny his reactions & him trying to process what’s happening, it was good acting but it felt like it was satire, the girls in this, one being ana played this so well the entire time, they weren’t awkward they were calculated & you could never read them or what their relationship was & even the reason for doing all that didn’t make a whole lot of sense, the ending was frustrating because you wanted to know what happened but left it with only the destruction caused. i’m trying to be vague in case you wanna watch it. it’s on netflix now, atleast in canada. if you can sit through the first 15 minutes where they set up some background but filled with a lot of unnecessary stuff then i suggest giving it a chance but you’ll probably be frustrated as well regardless if you enjoy the acting or characters. i realize that was a lot of rambling but i just wanted to over explain the movie i first saw of hers & how it’s not great but her acting was, im glad people aren’t complaining about her accent much, she’s definitely gotten much better with american accents & i can’t imagine how difficult that must be, i for some reason feel it’s harder to have an american accent when you’re say german or russian or australian or spanish spoken with that accent for english than it is for english spoken with american accents to play a russian/etc accented character. maybe i’m wrong- but english is the hardest & most weird language to learn & it’s over complicated for no reason so it’s hard to learn pronunciations & how one word in sound can be spelled 3 ways & all mean different things. basically i’m proud of her & i cannot wait to see everything she is in & how much people will really appreciate her from this film. i’m so excited man i’m sorry for the rant i know nothing about anything also this is just opinion

This movie was really distressing. I never imagined that this movie would be bad. I really hate this movie. The director should have been enhanced her personality and her passion towards acting but unlike he shown the most over exaggerated and disturbing abuse side of MM. The actress played as Marilyn Monroe is great and the cinematography was awesome. Other than that this movie was one of the most disturbing movie I ever watched in my opinion. Ughh I love this trailer! The music is just so perfect and it stays in my mind forever…I especially love the “and we all lose our charm in the end…” because we all see the glamour of Marilyn and that’s often all that’s focused upon but this movie reveals that even the most charming parts we see on television are now exposed in the end and we see how tragic her life really was. And I know this isn’t a biopic and it’s controversial, but she really was abused, used, and so many terrible things happened to her. She was a star…and like a star, her light still reaches us all these years later after her death.

Who could survive in a world of users, false love and soul takers that morphed her into actually using her movie persona to manipulate what she needed to function and indulge into feeding her flesh thinking it would grant her innocent protected love. It's actually how some women survive in that industry and in life. Know that there is power in the name Jesus Christ! His name casts out demons and heals! People are bothered by his name. The world hates the truth and wants to continue living sinfully! God's children are set apart (holy) and righteous.

      The novel capture Marilyn life in a more spiritual way . It was sad to see her life on a factual side but when you read Blonde , it was heart wrenching since you weren't just read a novel about Norma Jean / Marilyn Monroe , you became her spiritually see her life through her point of view . The cinematography/editing looks AMAZING. I think, much like Spencer, this will be polarizing. Those wanting a straightforward biopic like Judy that plays it safe are going to hate it. But those looking for something more impressionistic and artistic and unique while maybe taking some liberties with the true story will love it. I absolutely can't wait, and for the record I think Spencer is one of the most harrowing horror films I've ever seen (that's not in the horror genre). And I'm assuming the scene where she goes in that man's office is going to be what gave it the NC17 rating.

    After some time away from this film im beginning to understand what the director was trying to convey. Even when talking about Marilyn in interviews. Hes showcasing just how cruel the world was to someone as "beloved" as Marylin. We say we love Marilyn (Norma) but we endlessly consume the parts of her she hated the most. We know Marilyn before we know Norma.Norma died, but Marilyn's the diamond, shell never grow old shell never have wrinkles, shes immortal. Norma, the part of her that had to pay for all the things Marilyn brought upon her, was nothing more than a vessel, for an immortal and unstoppable force . But while she was alive she suffered at it's hands so much
