    I have just purchased the Silvia Pro, if only I knew how loud the pump on the steam boiler was I wouldn’t have purchased. No way you can store cup on to as it rattles so much and it wakes up every one in the house in the morning.
    My old rancilio Silvia was perfect and half as loud

      It’s true. I had the same issue and was considering selling it. Bizarre oversight on Rancilio’s part. I ended up replacing the Ulka ep5 pump with an Ulka ep4 pump (one each for steam and brew boiler) which added extra cost and wasted time. Nevertheless, the difference in noise is night and day, and now I feel like keeping the machine. Would I buy it again? No.

    I haven’t used any of those machines but from the review I watched , the Rancilio seems to have a more robust built. On the other had, the Breville seems to have more features to play with. Yet, in the end, the goal is to have a great espresso to drink, and eventually a machine that will last long. I just feel that the Rancilio will last longer. I am curious to read what experienced users have used and prefer over time.

    I have the BDB and the hot water feature stopped working, so Breville paid for it to get shipped back and looked at. Customer service has been fine so far, not sure when I'll get it back as it just arrived at their facility in Illinois. Tempted to buy something else though but its been a good machine.

  • @GadgetsGearCoffee

    On the BDB I don't steam that long before it gets too hot to hold, but I'm also not using the stock pitcher. Mine is a bit thinner so maybe I should be leaving it a bit longer.

    Could you please confirm the heating time for both machines? Looking for the faster one :)

  • @npirzkal
    @npirzkal 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You seem to imply that the steam boiler does not come on automatically. This is not my experience. When my machine is turned on in the morning, my steam boiler automatically heats up if it was on when the machine was turned off. The boiler comes on if it was on when the machine was turned off and off if it was off when the machine was turned off.
    Finally, the mechanical control of the Silvia pro make it compatible with any wifi enabled smart plugs, allowing for a much better timer and remote control.
    The amount of water that ends up in the tray is significantly lower than that of the normal Silvia, making the size of the tray a lot less important.
    With both boilers on all the time there is no issue of keeping the temperature up and the temperature accuracy of the Silvia Pro is incredible.

    Love the new studio! I’ve owned my Breville Infuser and Smart Grinder Pro for about 2 years now (off your recommendation, of course) and not at all ready to upgrade. But when I am the double boiler is absolutely on my radar. I really appreciate the thought and ingenuity they put into their machines, making espresso simpler for everyone. Great video, SCG!

      @@razineatworld The dually is their top of the range. I had the 'Bambino'. Cleaned and pampered like a baby, it still shat the bed after 7 months. Was fine for 6.5 months, then kept asking to be cleaned and ignored that it just had, then random button flashing, then leaked. I live on an island and the cost of posting the thing back, plus having to pay for return postage, meant it wasn't worth messing with. I got a Rancillio Silva Pro instead, which I'm quite happy with. My Breville Smartgrinder Pro still works fine, but cannot grind fine enough for the Silvia. At it's finest setting my Silvia just goes "Phft!" in about 6-8 seconds at 14g, so I got a Mignon Specialita. Tell you what also still works, my old Delonghi Dedica. That's still fine. :)

    Nice video as always! If you want to speed up the steaming on the Breville, don't forget you can change the temperature of the steam boiler and it does make it quite a bit more powerful (if you want it to be). Also, the electrically-heated grouphead helps keep the shot temp consistent. Just my 2 cents and 2 features I find very cool.

    Something to consider when looking at these two machines is how happy you will be with them long term. There are a lot of comments in here about how long the Silvia will last. I'm sure that is very true. A question that should follow is will you be happy with the Silvia pro for years? If you are looking at a $2000 espresso machine you are likely an enthusiast. Are you going to be satisfied with the lack of features on the Silvia? For close to $1000 cheaper the BDB offers much more adjustability and the ability to really explore the espresso making experience. Will it last 4 years? Maybe not. I have had the BDB for a little over two years and have had a couple problems with it. I have had to rebuild the steam valve twice. I am well aware of the fact that my machine will likely not last another two years. When it goes I will be looking at the Lelit Bianca as an upgrade. If you buy the BDB as an entry level DB machine and accept it for what it is then you will have an extra $1000 to put towards a much better machine when you decide you want one.

      @bigglyguy8429 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since I'm here replying to someone I'll answer that... I got the Silvia Pro and yes, quite happy with the lack of.. whatever else. I can honestly say I have no interest in any other machine now. It reminds me of my Garmin 5X watch; I went from being interested in watches to just walking past watch shops with zero interest. Today I'm interested in beans, their origin, drying process and roast level. The machine is a given; I have a dual boiler built like a tank, so why should I think about the machine?

      Right now, the Silvia Pro X is $1870 and the Breville Dual Boiler is $1,600 - so $270 difference, not $1,000. Breville has taken some crazy pricing over the past two-years

      I am interested in the Silvia pro x. I currently have a Delongi dedica and have got that for 6 years and still working well. So I want a machine with a few more features and solid to last for a few years. Would I be satisfied with it after 20 years? I don’t know, but I wouldn’t like to have to replace a coffee machine after 5 years. As for the features on offer it reminds me photography. We learned so much in the school of photography i attended using a Nikon FM2 totally manual and just a normal lens on. Less is more as they say and perhaps Silvia is just enough for me (except the narrow tray).

    The internal build quality and material used in both the machines are what really make the difference. Another let down the vibration pump makes a lot of noise.
    To adjust the boiler pressure is very laborious.
    Again the diptray is very clumsy.
    The steamwand isn't insulated.
    Limited pre infusion.
    At this price tag I am expecting both more improvements and refinements.

      I don’t see these two as exact comparables. The Silvia is more expensive and that makes sense. No gimmick features and focusses on accuracy for both temperature and pressure. Plus you have a commercial steam arm, better internals and build if only because it’s based on commercial machines. It’s also designed and made in Italy by a company that just focusses on coffee. That said, coming from a big consumer appliance maker, the dual boiler is an awesome consumer-grade appliance at a budget. Being designed by Australians and built in China gives a great price and value for what you get.
