You can hear in this song the elements of at least three songs that will later be on Hillel's debut RHCP album Freaky Styley: Jungle Man, Freaky Styley, and Yertle the Turtle. Hillel was the best.
Having learned and covered a lot of RHCP songs in the past, I’m scratching my head wondering how I’m just now hearing this for the first time! That guitar work is phenomenal... I’m going to have to work this out!
@@nathanielparker6259 i believe he’s playing the a, d, and g string on the 5th fret harmonic and d, g, and b string on the 7th fret harmonic. i cant figure out how to get that tone though, could be a wah pressed fully down maybe?
The sound of hillel guitar is rhcp soul i know most people now john fruciante he is the perfect guitar player after hillel die but , this sound is the real rhcp even john had a little of it in the mother milk , bssm era

Thanks to Alain's vocals I think the second line of the last chorus is: "Never, never say die" Still trying to decipher what the last line of that chorus is, it sounds slightly different from previous ones!
So Funky it hurts whoa..damn..feeling this..good job..RIP dude..this so hard and melodic..I Hate Drugs..such a Lie and Destroyer...good peeps bad peeps they destroy.
They really don't sound alike. This song perhaps, but the stuff with video clips is more like fairly conventional 80's rock/pop, in its own unique way.
The bassist here was Flea , not Chris Hutchinson . This was a demo . And for the record , Was Alain who thaught to Flea in Jack´s house for the battle of the bands. Its better talk with the people in first person.
Tbf, both Anthony and Flea have said it was Hillel who taught him, so it is not strange people say this. I really wish the RHCP would make some tracks with Alain some day. It would be awesome, without a doubt.
I wrote a message to Alain Johannes some time ago. He confirmed the line-up from the video description [Alain Johannes, Hillel Slovak, Jack Irons and Chris Hutchinson]. Some fans had doubts if Hillel actually sang the main vocals. Yes, it was him!
There are literally microtones on this track. I'm not thinking of harmonics. I am thinking microtones. If you know what to listen for, you will hear them.
Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but this is proof that they didn't need Keidis to be a hig hit. This trio has got it. I love RHCP but I've never been wowed by Anthony's "singing".
A fan with the nickname "Nerkon" published this b-sides songs from What is this? in the Eleven page (mundoeleven). I've been fan from Alain, Eleven, Jack long time ago. Jungleman & Behind the Sun.
I love Hillel.

I didn't say it was, genius. I said it was Hillel's debut RHCP album.
It was the first RHCP ALBUM he was on, but he was previously on their 1983 Demo.

Did you figure it out? I'm struggling to figure out how. I think I've got the right tone, but still can't figure out what he's playing

@@flylvr5918 I think there is some chorus involved as well. Not as much as normal, but I definitely hear it
I love Hillel's voice!!
Just love this song...it shows just what's it was all about in that era: simple, straight, deep, groovy...awesome!!!
The sound of hillel guitar is rhcp soul i know most people now john fruciante he is the perfect guitar player after hillel die but , this sound is the real rhcp even john had a little of it in the mother milk , bssm era
Yeah man. This was the sound that hit my soul just right with rhcp.
I Love this Chorus on his guitar! Hillel forever!
Alain Johannes... such a genius
Mathías Peralta He is from Chile
My interpretation of the lyrics:
Sometimes
Every night and every day
Sweet-tooth's away
Like a fever dream
But thats okay
Talk to puncture chemicals anyway
And when I sleep, and when I sleep
There is no up or down
There is no gravity
Come lose your place (in the) river
Anyone let us anytime
I can, I can see the light
Crushing we're all unified
Maybe your love is a hit song
I'll try to find, I'll form each thought
I'll tip on tongue
Say that you're a small fish
Soaked into the wave of a stormed ocean
The flow is all we need to keep
I'll breathe every emotion
Come lose your place (in the) river
Anyone let us anytime
I can, I can see the light
Crushing we're all unified
Distance is all an illusion
Like the distance from soul to mind
Like the distance from space
To mankind
Seems from my head, I get my strength
All I can keep up is a mountain range
And meeting to get (to) know your lips
Which I can flow
Come lose your place (in the) river
Anyone let us anytime
I can, I can see the light
Crushing we're all unified

thank you!
did you succeed to do it on your guitar?
Every night and every day
Seem to pass away
Like a freight train

I think this should be released in an album. And I really wanted to learn how to play this song on my electric guitar
The bass kind of sounds like Jungle Man by RHCP
Well he was a part rhcp in freaky styley
But this was earlier "what is this"
it's amazing how similar Anthym/What Is This sounds to early RHCP, yet it all makes sense as both groups shared the key members
They really don't sound alike. This song perhaps, but the stuff with video clips is more like fairly conventional 80's rock/pop, in its own unique way.
Great. Sounds a little bit like *Gang Of Four* and *Bush Tetras* .
this is really crazy stuff
Nice bass-guitar sounds and dark singing. Hearing some "Yertle" guitarplay at the end....
Omg yes
Thank you!

Wrong, I played bass on both Flow versions.
@@clhutch61 Do you have the other version of this track? I've only seen it listed on a Test Pressing of the self titled LP

XTC meets Talking Heads and Television.
Woah! Sounds a bit like Mark Sandman (Morphine)
Elliot Sharp meets Adrian Belew meets David Bowie (kindvf).
Hillel has a very unique sound. It seems as if he takes an approach utilizing microtones (at least on this track). Very interesting.

Cool af
Lots of Andy Summers/Adrian Belew vibes here. Nice!
I believe that this was on an early-career singles b-sides compilation called "What Is It?" that I had a CD copy of back in the '90s
...but this might be an alternate take of the track that is on that album
Anyone else getting huge HUUGE led zeppelin four sticks vibe from the song… especially melodically

Way cooler than RHCP
holy shit toxic tone
can anyone understand these lyrics? he sings so low & quiet; can't make out chorus either. can someone print the lyrics? appreciate it!
