In a Guitar Player magazine article around the time of Californication they had pics of John’s pedals from the album that never made it onto his live pedalboard, and I’m pretty sure he’s using a vintage Electro Harmonix Micro Synth on this.
Agree with you, but I don't know... I find this one pretty incoherent, also Purple Stain is one of my favourite songs so I can't listen to it in a different way than the original hahaha
i have to say the outro makes a lot more sense in this version. you could see how it would come out of this one, whereas although awesome it sort of comes out of left field on the final version
But I am sure Rick Ruben told John to come up with another riff since this demo of purple stain sounded too close to the get on top guitar riff. I’m sure this song wouldn’t of made into the album hadn’t John changed it into the sliding chord
