Mondo is the man. When it comes to mold making, there’s a guy who knows how to get things done. Love the way he does it. It’s a very no-nonsense approach to mold making I’ve never really considered before. However, I’m still a big fan of burlap fabric and I suppose it could be incorporated into this method. Mondo molds like a fricken boss!
This is the kind of stuff that keeps me motivated and inspired. I never get tired of watching these how to tutorials from sculpt, building the clay wall, to molding. This is gold! I can never say thank you enough Ed and the whole crew, too many to mention 😊
I would marvel at your full color catalog in the 80's. The quality was noticeably superior to other masks. I started doing special effects makeup at that same time and have been doing it ever since. Thanks for your inspiration!
i cant wait to see the mutant baby completely finished I wish I could see you guys again at MHC this year but we were not able to make it this year. We are really hoping to visit your factory one day though!
I wonder if you add a little cement the plaster you’d strengthen it. Also, there are spray silicone products out there for waterproofing. Hitting the inside of the mold with spray silicone may help the mold retain it’a integrity. Either that or adding another layer of high glass spray paint may help the mold up to many uses.
Thank you so much for the invaluable content! I am making a full head mask from oil based clay and want to make the mould from plaster but I have very sharp curves, do you think that it would be fine or should I change the shape so I won't have any undercuts?
Looks like a big chocolate Easter candy that you usually see with rabbits. Lol No matter how many times I see something like this my brain won’t wrap around it because when I was conceived any artistic gene flew right past and never landed on me. I am a definite personality 2 + 2 = 4 but for an artist to me of any kind sees 2+2 = 17. I have absolutely no artistic ability so this is fascinating because it doesn’t make sense especially the whole mold think to a actual mask. L O L
You want to apply a mold release (I personally recommend Partall Paste #2, but there's more options out there) or thin layer of Vaseline on the plaster wall on the first half. Creates a barrier on the first half, so the second half doesn't stick. Also, take the time to make yourself some pry points. Makes demolding a 2 piece mold a breeze.
Personally, I use Partall Paste #2. It's a wax mold release that prevents plaster from sticking to itself. But if you don't have that, you can also apply a thin layer of vaseline on the first half of the mold once you take the clay walls off and clean the plaster wall. Just remember this: A little bit goes a long way.
Awww sweet little baby Mutant! Cute and Creepy, you've outdone yourself!
I wish that spray painted demon baby was chocolate. Looks delicious

I'd be really keen to see how the production moulds are made, great video!
Top notch!! Love it
This never gets old. I love watching the whole process. Will we get to see Mondo fill the mold with latex, etc.?
Ed, I love it, my wife would hate it...I may need to buy one
I don't sculpt but watching Scott (puppet guy at Van Dyke's Halloween) work I recall the terminology. Makes the wife think I know something

Can you make a video of the latex and foam one-piece mold, please!🙏🙏🙏

You have to use a "bond breaker" before pouring the second half of the mold Or it won't separate correct ? did you spray paint
it ? I use Vaseline.✌
Yes Mando uses spray paint.
first comment wooo!
Why must the spray paint be brown? And why do you use distilled water in the paint mixture instead of ammonia?
Where are you guys located? I would love to learn this trade from a hands on perspective.

How long do you keep your monsters in their mold before removing them?
So make a seam with clay, do 1/2 the plaster mold. Remove the clay, but what stops the second 1/2 of plaster from sticking to first?
You want to apply a mold release (I personally recommend Partall Paste #2, but there's more options out there) or thin layer of Vaseline on the plaster wall on the first half. Creates a barrier on the first half, so the second half doesn't stick. Also, take the time to make yourself some pry points. Makes demolding a 2 piece mold a breeze.
Doesn't the thick flange mess with the casting? Wouldn't there be a big void when the clay flange is removed?
When can I buy one?
Which character is this ?! I gotta have one !
Mutinee
Question, When Mondo starts to mold the other side, does he do another layer of Spray Paint before putting the plaster on so it doesnt stick?
Personally, I use Partall Paste #2. It's a wax mold release that prevents plaster from sticking to itself. But if you don't have that, you can also apply a thin layer of vaseline on the first half of the mold once you take the clay walls off and clean the plaster wall. Why did you stop making shocktronics and frightronics?
It’s me from the convention 🤡
Hello!
Hello!!!
When you spray it, it looks like chocolate lol
He looks so much like Leonardo, no wonder he's an artist.
Reincarnation?
I thought it was chocolate 😫
