Adrian and Carole your work ethic is amazing!!! You are doing wonderful things of both the chateau and the outside area! Love what Carole has done with the stair railing (can’t wait to see the roses grow!). And admire Adrian for tackling that ivy!!! Thank you for sharing your progress: I look forward to your videos each week!!!
Hi Carole & Adrian, great job on the railings, they look wonderful, just enough gold...it's going to look beautiful when the roses grow! Never ending garden work, you guys are doing an amazing job! Great idea Carole that would be a great place for a bench, to sit back, relax and enjoy all your hard work! Hope the cherry picker works out for you guys. Thank you for sharing, take really good care of yourselves, stay well! Lots of love Kathy x 💖
The addition to the railings are the right touch. Ball shape to match the balls on the top. The clearing up in the gardens shows off so many lovely feature that were hidden before
Hi Adrian and Caroll. You amazing work has inspired me to get on with the restoration of our retirement cottage. A golden oldie that needed a lit of work. The geyser pipes burst in the roof 4 times in all and eventuslly we had to replace the whole ting so we moved to an outside wall. Putting in pvc ceilings that are waterproof and insulate against our cold winters on South Africa. We live in Kroonstad in the Free State of S A. Kroonstad would be Crown Town in English. When ine travels from Gauteng/Johannesnurg to Cape Town we are about two hours drive from the Witwatersrand ( White Waters Ridge ) My father was from Ashington on Tyne in Northumberland. We watch you and your vlogs each time and are blown away by the amount of work the two of you manage to do. Carole the railings outside look stunning and the gold balls are just enough, not over the top. You always have such brilliant ideas, and what you have achieved so far inside your Chateau, is incredible. Now your talents are turned outside as the weather is perfect for outdoor jobs. Yes, putting that seat/bench out in the orchard is such a good idea....with that view....wow. Adrian, goodness, what a job that ivy is. Once it has rooted it's such bloomin hard work to remove it, isn't it? In 4.10 on your vlog today, you took the Lord's name in vain. It might not mean anything to you, but some others that are watching (our family especially) are offended by that, so could you please not. Thanks Adrian. Anyway, onward and upward. We cheer you on each time you vlog and are simply amazed at what the both of you achieve. Well done! From our family here in Toronto, Canada.
Your railing turned out wonderfully Carol! I agree - the gold circles wouldn't have contributed as much as the knobby bits did! I understand the battle with ivy - when we moved to our place both sides of our property were covered with it. You have glorious stone walls underneath, whereas I had an old broken down wooden fence! Enjoy the good weather!
Awww, the railings are perfect ! and the ramp rock wall ☺️ the root of the ivy embedded in the column is massive ! It's now a real parkland around the chateau all your hard work is so worth it ❣️
Love the idea of the roses covering the center. Imagine family photos on the landing, with the roses in full bloom. I'm not much of a painter, but it's always a good idea to leave a significant amount of time between coats, indoors or outdoors,( no matter what the can says). The paint will just peel off if it hasn't dried all the way through.
You two are amazing on how you work so well together and get things done....love it!! Your place is looking so good and you have come so far. The gold on the railings is perfect Carole...a real touch of "class"!! Adrian, the stone work looks amazing and makes everything look so neat. I think that that door you opened would make a perfect storage room for your gardening tools, etc.,.....good find! I am so glad to hear that you are getting Billy's cherrypicker as it will be a perfect addition to your chateau and will save you a bundle over time. Well done!! One day....you will clear all of the ivy then it will be just the maintenance of it, which I hope will be a lot easier than these huge vines and roots!! You are getting there!!! Well done as usual and thank you for your excellent videos!💝💐
Oh, you're going to just love me putting my two cents worth in here....my preference from the beginning was to paint the wrought iron railing black....I'm not a fan of gold highlights....so sorry my friends (hopefully friends after that statement)???? Anyway, you folks are amazing doing what you've done so far and I just love watching the progress and I sure do look forward to more!
If the roses grow over it, I won’t do gold on the middle railing. Too much work for it to be covered up. Glad you are getting Billy’s cherry picker. Thanks for sharing 😍😘
Adrian and Carole everything is looking amazing from all your hard work. It’s amazing how damaging ivy can be to all that brick and rock work. Love the gold on the metal stair rail and will look beautiful when the roses climb up across it. Lots of hard work ahead still but what a beautiful place to call home. 😘🤗🙏❤️✨

Carole I really like the big gold knobs and the little gold knobs up the stair railings it really looks pretty. The yard is really coming along from when you first started cleanup, I can't wait to see all the flowers you'll plant as things progress. God Bless, Kathy 🇺🇸

You both are amazing from everything you tackle in the garden. You're stone walls are just Gorgeous after that ivy goes but what a job. I'm always pleased with the work ethic .
Love how the railing is going with the gold but it seems odd not to have any gold in the center at the landing. Maybe by painting the rectangle, not including your circles, area gold and leave the outer part white might give it the wow factor and tie the rest of the railing together. You need a larger area of gold to make it stand out. Just a thought. Enjoying this channel. How sweet of your daughter to edit these videos for you. I know it takes quite a lot of time.
The roses are growing quickly and soon be over that middle section covering it up, I hope! Editing does take a long time which we don't have or are capable of, it was Bethany's idea and she is more than happy to do it. Maybe she might do daily vlogs for an entire week, when she comes to stay.
I love roses but, why would you want them to cover handrails? Some people do need the handrails to navigate steps and who wants to grab a handful of thorns! All the work you have put into the handrails looks beautiful, why hide them.
I'm hoping to train the roses to grow over the middle section at the top of the steps, not so much the hand rails. I'm not disabled yet! Heading that way though! Cx
Such a beautiful property! So happy it is yours! Carole, Are you going to paint the blue door? It is lovely! The landing stairway railing looks perfect with the extra gold! 💕
Thank you Meri. Eventually yes, atm it's blocked on the other side for security and needs alot of work. As for colour, we are thinking maybe an olive green, but not yet decided.
A gazebo would be lovely in your top field with a nice swing? Great job on the railings and the roses will be gorgeous wound thru that middle railing. I also loved the redone stone facade into the garden area. I bet some of that ivy is older than all of us!!! Have a great week Carole and Adrian!
You are doing such a great job outside and one day it will not be so... much to do but there will always be upkeep but by that time you will have so many huge tools to help you . Good thought to buy the Cherry picker
One good thing about Chateau work never ending is that it's great exercise. 😂Seriously though you are doing awesome work and it must be gratifying to see when jobs are done. Everything looks great so far. 😊
So much hard work but each week there is so much improvement. Removing ivy is not fun and with years of ivy growth the stems are like tree trunks. Those little knobs in gold are a perfect touch. I thought about saying it but didn’t want to add to your work load. I’m glad you did it and opted against painting the center circles gold. When the roses grow up to the top it will be stunning. Thank you Stephanie, you can always suggest, it didn't occur to me until someone suggested it! It was actually a quick job doingvthegold balls and with satisfying results. Unlike the ivy, that goes on and on. Cx
Ugh, I hate seeing sweet Carole on her hands and knees weeding like that. Really, landscape fabric/plastic is one of the worst things to put over your soil. The best? Compost and mulch. There's a video of a very experienced plantsman, Jim Putnam, here in North Carolina on how to control weeds. We have very heavy clay soil here in the Southern United States (we make bricks and pottery from it literally), it's just awful to dig in, and it's awful to try to get the weeds out and he has completely transformed his soil in less than 2 years. I took his advice and my soil just gets better and better every season. Do I still have to weed? Yes, but minimally. I'm certain it will work for y'all, too! Cheers from North Carolina th-cam.com/video/g9Ro5u0C5o0/w-d-xo.html
Hi Carole and Adrian, I imagine there's been lots of lovely comments about the additional paintwork on the railings and well deserved too.. I looked at the side of the building where you're thinking of putting the cherry picker. It does look a tad tight but I suppose it's a case of wait and see. Wouldn't want it picking stones out your wall eh. Don't know if you you've had the rain you wanted yet but we've got it in East Anglia. I'll swap you for the 🌞. Take care both.
if you bang a small (maybe 2 inch) piece of old copper pipe into the root of the ivy it will kill the roots.. You can also use a copper nail, but takes longer.
Love your works that you both have done . Best to get rid of all the ivy like you say Adrian before it gets to bad. Shame the stone for sharpening tools that you found was broken it would have been nice maybe to restore it. Love what you have done to the railing Carole. THANKS FOR SHARING . See you both soon xx
Wow, a year into ownership and you still have new rooms to discover, even if it's just farm storage with lots of junk. I suppose surprises never ends if you buy a chateau.
Adrian, don’t show Carole that cutting stone or she will try to make a mold to fashion a new one! Lol. The roses will be stunning on the railing, love that idea! The secret garden is my favorite little hide away, I could sit in there for hours with a good book! Mmmmmm, strawberry/rhubarb sauce or pie, one of my favorite foods.
I was watching you both then my Granddaughter ask if I can help her with room she is 18 & needed her work clothes washing for tomorrow & help with her room It never ends 😂😂😂😂 just got back to you 3hours later 🤔 Love Sue❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
I have an idea for your outside ornamental rail…instead of the gold sent for the diamond shapes..you an accent with the door color…also to tone down the go,d knob you can rub oil stain varnish…it will give it a beautiful patina and protect it…my 5 cents..ha. Love your beautiful chateau.🥂
I'm curious as to why you seem to be killing off all the stinging nettle, while taking pains to preserve all the architectural features. Did you know nettles have the ability to detoxify the body, improve metabolic efficiency, boost immunity, increase circulation, improve energy levels, manage menstruation, minimize menopausal symptoms, and aid in skin care. It has the power to protect the kidney and gallbladder health and much more? I assume they were part of the chateau's medicinal garden.
Sorry, I hit the wrong button. Love watching all the great work you both do and especially the bit of banter between you. I have always used cardboard boxes to keep the weeds in the garden at bay, just a couple layers of cardboard and then some mulch will do the trick and last sometimes two years. I like that water will go through as well as liquid fertilizer.
@@LifeAfterLaFerté We also use layers of newspaper and then cover with hay that is at least a year old. It is called 'gardeners hay' over here but is just old bales of hay from previous seasons that farmers haven't used up. Works really well and I know that I have spent far less time on weeds. Also helps keep the moisture in the ground. Eventually breaks down and then becomes compost.
(Carole, I'm with you, no plow in the garden ) The walls look great without the ivy!!! Carole, to tell you the truth, I didn't even see the the little ball like things on the rail!!! NOW I do because you painted them!!! Looks great (Sorry for commenting so much later, have a bad cough...feeling better!!)
Kathy sorry for my delay, a few nasty comments had upset me. The plough has been tucked away! I love the golden balls too. I hope by now your cough has improved and didn't turn into anything more serious Cx
@@LifeAfterLaFerté Much better, thank you! I am sorry for the nasty comments, who do people think they are??? Come on people, manners and love. If you don't have anything nice to say...........move on!!!
No leave them white the structure of the circle is lost with gold. Much nicer white and i love the middle architecture of the centre railing and its original, yes/no ?? I would keep it as is!! Only my opinion interesting what other comments are! 🍷🍷💐🇨🇦
I actually like no gold on the bannister outside. Gold can be overpowering. Plus do you really want to be touching it up all the time? I am sure you can find plenty of other things to do like sitting on your various benches in the gardens.

Use 3 cups white vinegar and 1 cup salt to kill weeds to the core
Wow, a year into ownership and you still have new rooms to discover, even if it's just farm storage with lots of junk. I suppose surprises never ends if you buy a chateau.
Adrian, don’t show Carole that cutting stone or she will try to make a mold to fashion a new one! Lol. The roses will be stunning on the railing, love that idea! The secret garden is my favorite little hide away, I could sit in there for hours with a good book! Mmmmmm, strawberry/rhubarb sauce or pie, one of my favorite foods.
The secret garden is often where you'll find me for the last hour on a summers evening, pottering around clearing up. Cx
Looking good guys!
Thank you Bruce Cx
Can you brun the wood and ivy in the backyard. The gold looks really good .
I was watching you both then my Granddaughter ask if I can help her with room she is 18 & needed her work clothes washing for tomorrow & help with her room It never ends 😂😂😂😂 just got back to you 3hours later 🤔
Love Sue❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
😂 life’s a total distraction….
Gosh. The railing looks fabulous.
Thank you Ann and they are finally finished Cx
Luxury cupboard under the stairs! 😅
Looking very smart
Thank you Jean Cx
Railings look fantastic, great job. How about keeping bees? Sell the honey for income?
Thank you. You haven't seen Adrian dressed up when he's spraying a wasp nest, BEES haha he couldn't cope! Cx
I could always post them to you. 😂
Thank you John I might use cardboard next time Cx
@@kathykulba4320 Glad to hear it Kathy. I spent a couple of hours floating in the pool today!!!!
Lovely view from that top field. Be a nice place for a gin and lemonade on a summers day :)
Absolutely x
Place cardboard over the weeds. Don’t waste you back pulling that !!!!! Lay cardboard in layers, wet it down. Add compost and plant. No Dig Method.
No leave them white the structure of the circle is lost with gold. Much nicer white and i love the middle architecture of the centre railing and its original, yes/no ?? I would keep it as is!! Only my opinion interesting what other comments are! 🍷🍷💐🇨🇦
No gold on the centre section, my roses will cover it.
I actually like no gold on the bannister outside. Gold can be overpowering. Plus do you really want to be touching it up all the time? I am sure you can find plenty of other things to do like sitting on your various benches in the gardens.
It's done now and I'm pleased with it, we actually don't get much time to sit anywhere but I will make time to lie in the pool!!!
