Other manufacturers make a similar tool. I happen to prefer this particular one because it is smaller, and more lightweight, which makes my hands and wrists happy. :) I also really like the ones made by Sheffield and also Master Mechanic for the same reason.
Another great thing about this tool is that you only have to buy it once; replaceable razor blades (amzn.to/2QDr7oS) are cheap, and easy to switch out.
Like all tools, this one is not w/out its idiosyncrasies/drawbacks: I often use an exacto knife in tandem w/it to finish. Also, it doesn't cut curves.
If you are a person w/limited strength and agility in your hands/wrists/arms, this may be the beginning (or restart) of a wonderful activity for you: polymer clay mosaic (you'll want to make thin 1/8" tiles)!
    .
Discovering this tool was a game-changer for me because it allowed me to treat polymer clay tiles like any other mosaic tesserae (ie cutting it however I wanted, rather than being stuck w/baked tiles, the shape of which I couldn't fundamentally change).
    .
    Other info:
This mosaic is intended to hang indoors.
Wood substrate w/KILZ acrylic paint primer on it.
    Adhesives: Weldbond and white silicone
    Ungrouted
I did not put any sealer/glaze on these tiles. They don't need it, and I don't want them to be shiny.

Thank you for such a wonderful video. I did Stainglass for 20+ years. I have been doing polymer clay for about 15. Over the summer I was able to dig all the way back to the black hole in my garage and retrieved all my Stainglass and started working at it again. Your techniques and artwork is very inspiring. Thanks for sharing this I can’t Wait to watch the rest of your videos

@@SusanCrocenzi I looked at your in person workshops. Do you have any online classes particularly interested in outdoor substrates.

@@janmontarsi.-blendangles7960 Unfortunately I don't have an online class for outdoor substrates. Sorry! I learned how to make them from Sherry Warner Hunter's book: amzn.to/3fGnqIx ALSO, there is a great group on FB called 3D Substrate for Mosaic which has tons of info! Hope this helps!

It’s fascinating to watch you work. I always forget to ask you, but do you bake your clay as directed on the package?

Hi Judy! I tend to back off the heat a bit, and double the baking time. For example: If the clay directions say 275, I'll go with about 265, but then double the baking time. This way, I don't accidentally burn the clay (which sucks)! That said, it's also super-important to get the temp as close as possible to the recommended temp, because under-baked tiles can be crumbly and hard to cut! Hope this helps!
