Thus, damage to the right side of the brain may cause movement problems or weakness on the body's left side. For most people, the left half of the brain is responsible for verbal and logical functions including language (listening, reading, speaking, and writing), thought and memory involving words.
Thank you!! It's always encouraging to follow your program and your approach is natural and realistic. It's like a light in the midst of darkness. What blessing to have someone who encourages and tries to unlock your potential for good!! It's a blessing to have you Dr. Caroline leaf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a teacher it helps me a lot.
Omgoodness I just had a realization. I'm in my 50's and can learn and love to learn. But as a child and even a teenager I just could not wrap my head around most learning. I could not even tell the fluff from the meat so when taking notes I felt so lost. So what changed, therapy to work on issues from my youth.
Wow if I had known this 45 years ago my life would be so different today. I'm both sad and hopeful that I'm not dumb,my childhood was so chaotic and wonder if this had an effect on my learning and was held back in the 2nd grade because of this i feel i just flat out gave up! 😔 I was born in 1960 and was told I wasn't keeping up with the class and couldn't learn math English etc so I learned to sit next to someone really smart and hope I could copy their work during tests. School was terrifying for me! Teachers had my future in their hands. 😢
This was great, and sparked a lot of discussion for me and my husband. Couple questions, though not sure you answer comments here? 1) Regarding L/R brain--I recall reading this in a very popular and helpful book I've listened to on audio, The Whole-Brained Child. While they qualify their explanations with the statement that brain research is ongoing and very complex, they argue that this description of brain function still has a place in understanding different types of people. Can you comment on that a bit? 2) You mentioned that brain research supports abandoning rote memorization in learning/education. While I as an educator would basically agree, I also feel that there IS a place for it (else why would we have been created with the capacity to memorize?), especially when it comes to committing things like poetry and scripture to memory. Yes, deep understanding of those things will obviously enhance our ability to memorize them, but sometimes it takes having that verse in memory and being able to "call it up" at the right moment to actually experience that kind of deep learning--if the verse or poem weren't there to begin with, no connection would have been made! Anyway, I am SO enjoying your talks whenever I have a chance to listen. It's so fabulous to hear someone with current scientific knowledge and experience who is also a believer expound on how all these things are interwoven. Thank you!
