As a kid my brother and I use to run up to the railway tracks passing through the centre of Tunbridge to wave at the driver, it was always a mad dash run when you heard the distant oncoming horn. Good times

My husband’s parents moved to Ulverstone about 10 years ago, and we visited several times a year. The train really is the soundtrack of the area, day and night, and now that we no longer have family in Tasmania, the sound of the train really makes me long to return to the place and the time. 😢💔💗

Adrian is a great guy, this is good to see, we need a 'heritage' train in Tassie to carry passengers

As a young'n in Hobart in the 50s and 60s I took the train to school every day from Montrose to school at Hobart Tech and other trips into the city. I also remember a trip on the Emu Bay Railway from Burnie to Queenstown in the early 1960s. I think my most memorable train ride was on the Mt Lyell cog railway from Strahan to Queenstown, one of the last in 1963. I have since ridden on trains in Canada (Regina to Toronto) and the US (Chicago to Salt Lake City). But one of my most memorable was on the Tasman Limited.

Some of the best parts of Tasmania are only accessible by train. We need to set-up passenger routes asap! We need like a Ghan for Tas, and a fleet of refurbished classic trains for tourism purposes.

All that u showed in this video was wonderful. Definitely it would be nice if the government in Tassie reconsiders starting passenger trains, it would not only add tourist attractions but also boon for the community...no need for cars on the road. Hopefully this happens soon

Yep. Passenger trains are far more cost-effective and efficient for transport. Some 80,000 can be transported/hr/engine compared to about 2,000 for cars.
And since we're pretty poor, they don't suck us dry like cars, which cost 25% of income over 50 years.

When the last freight train left Hobart depot on 22 June 2014 to Brighton hub. Before then I was a night shifter in taxi, living up on the hill near Rosetta. When I finished my shift about two, two thirty or even three morning , I can head the freight train coming down from Claremont on a very very quiet night. No wind at all just echo noise from the valley as the train as it is coming down on the clear night. The engine from 2000's was louder the TR series. A real heavy pounding sound as the locomotive engine from 2000's series turned on more power, to get up the hill. Once it over the top, the engine dies down to idle. Really really missed these action due to safety issue and level crossing incident. Also had a friend who's lived at Colebrook. He can hear the different noise from 2000's series versus the TR model. TR model are a lot quieter especially up the hill toward Rhyaston tunnel.

Well let's form im 4:38 4:38 a Tasmanian cooperative to rebuild the railwsy between Lebrina and Wyena. Develop a cafe station at Lebrina. Camp, picnic and music amphitheater at Denison Gorge and storage maintenance depot at Wyena. Do wait for politicians anymore...power to the Tasmanian people.

Here's to hoping that one day, a train service will return to Hobart (or maybe even trams).

It is an absolute shame we don't have passenger trains in Tassie. A run from the Don to Burnie is a tourist scene going to waste. SHAME TASMANIA!

  • @rsinclair6560

Nope...visitors to the State tour agenda and time table is governed by one thing. The ste time to get backbto the boat or air port. So you must come up with a train ride that fits in with them not what Tasmania's think what tourist would like.
