To me as a foreigner I think your accent (RP) is the clearest to understand and Scottish is the hardest to understand. I think that Scottish woman was talking Americanised that is why English students understood her. The standard American is easier to copy than the British accents, but I think the British accent is more beautiful.
@@stevenhoskins7850 thank you. I understand the standar American accent easily, except when they go very regional. I know Kentucky has some very different pronunciation sometimes. Maybe it depends on how educated a person is...but in general that is what I think. I'd say in USA Kentucky was the hardest for a foreigner to understand like Scottish in the UK.
I am from the the south of England, and as a native I have found some Scottish, Irish accents very hard to understand . When in new Zealand , some I could only understand about 10%. I teach English in China were most people have much more exposure to American accents compared to British. I tell my students and their parents it good to hear as many as you can.
Oh nooo... it’s totally different in real life! I’ve lived in lots of countries and the Scottish + Irish accents would be one of the most difficult to comprehend. Indian English is also a big big challenge :) Aussie version could be quite hard to understand as well (especially if they speak fast); the easiest would be American English I guess.
Your idea of "real life" is absolute nonsense, extremely ignorant and very insulting. I'm Scottish and from the same city as Karen Gillan. Karen Gillan is from Inverness, not Edinburgh. It's a wonderful video! Thank you, Lucy! Very pronounced Irish and Scottish accents can be extremely hard to understand...So, in this video you showed us some native accents, it would also be interesting to see how British people perceive some foreign accents - Russian, Italian, French, German, etc...
The most difficult accent to understand is (newzeelander) and the easiest is the american accent especially that spoken in California and carolina. Thanks lucy 🌺❤️
I didn't have issues with any of them. But I grew up in the Appalachian region of the US. If you want to talk about accent discrimination. According to linguists it is more closely related to English spoken in Chaucers time.

Well hey Lucy! A new background isn't as good as your previous one, I loved that more but it's your choice anyway! And a huge thanks for another fantastic lesson! Always love watching your fabulous videos!
For me I find the RP English accent to be the easiest to understand. The further North you go in the UK the harder it gets for me. I recall seeing a TV series about James Harriot, a veterinarian who practiced somewhere in the North of England (the show was based on the books written by James, i.e. "All Creatures Great and Small"). He seemed to have a "average" Southern England accent but the farmers he would visit spoke a type of English that was almost impossible to understand! By the by, New York has different accents in each borough, Queens, the Bronx, Brooklyn, etc. so Cyndi Lauper spoke only one type of NY accent. Thanks for your great videos!!
An interesting accent to analyse would be that of the Maltese speaking English (where it is the official second language), especially their pronunciation of “th”. Listen to how they say “birthday” for example.

As an American, Yorkshire and India were the hardest. I could still understand them completely though. Someone from the UK might find these easier than the others because they have a larger Indian population and obviously Yorkshire is in the UK.
Ooh really i am from India i am not surprised by your point that u cant understant i have met one american girl and she was literally looking flumoxed when i was talking to her😅 but i wanna tell u it is not that hard !
I find it interesting that I, being from the US, perceive different accents as more or less difficult to understand than the accents you rank one through ten.
I love your videos! I wish I could share them with my ESL classes, but I'm hesitant because I live in the States, and I don't know how well they can understand non-American accents.
I'm from Hong Kong. I found the Aussie accent is quite ez for me to understand. Maybe that's result from my 12 years spended in Aussie university. I didn't notice until the comparison.
One thing that freaks my out is the fact that even english native speakers sometimes don't know how to say one word or even one sentence, its not a very phonetic language and that makes it harder to learn.
I'm from the US Appalachia region (East Tennessee), and we talk "hillbilly" descending from Scots-Irish immigrants. I always get made fun of because I talk so country 🤣. But we're proud of it...
Absolutely wonderful and helpful video about accents! I love it! Thanks a million! By the way, CONGRATULATIONS on your wedding !!! All the happiness and love!!! Really nice background!🤗🤗
When you lived in Scotland for a few months every accent seems easier than any Scottish accent 😂 I'm from Germany originally PS: I mean actual hard Scottish accents because that lovely lady almost speaks American English with a Scottish touch. Talking aberdonian or Scottish Isles Accents here😁
The South African and Edinbourgh ladies had the mildest accents i have ever heard from those places. They were definitely modifying their pronunciations for a wide audience.
Lucy! Correct this video! Karen Gillan is from Inverness, NOT Edinburgh. That's an Inverness accent! It's NOT Americanised. How insulting. Clearly, you're not a linguist and unfamiliar with the accents of the UK.
I am from USA in the Midwest. I could understand all of these examples. You should research a Southern California accent. That is a bit regional as they have their own phrases. I thought Scottish was supposed to be very difficult. Not in this example anyway. Fun video. Thank you
I can't believe someone with a Scottish accent was voted the easiest to understand! I think you must've found the easiest to understand person in all of Scotland, since I usually find Scottish accents to be the most difficult to understand of all British isles accents. Generally to me, the farther north you go the harder it is, and Scotland is all the way north!
I'm from Southern California and I find that just about the hardest accent to understand is the Scottish Glaswegian accent--which may be more of a dialect than merely an accent.
Exactly, for example I can't understand the scottish accent,.. I watched 1 month ago a serie called " outlander" and really wasn't easy understand them 😢.
Lucy, the R sound in Indian accent is different because of a similar letter in Hindi alphabet which heavily influences the 'R', not only R but almost every Hindi alphabet influences our English accent.
Loved the Shilpa Shetty one. Yes, thats kind-of the accent we speak in. Must tell you that she's good n fluent English speaker according to Indian standards.
Indian style of English tend to blend the "r's" with the "L" in words. An example: Roller coaster may sound like rlowler coasterl. The occasional "roll" of the r sound (similar when used in Spanish...but not quite) is a result of adding a stronger breath when the tongue is positioned for making the "L" sound - but with its tip resting further towards the throat. Spanish "r's actually push the tongue in the "D" position. Realistically, it's impossible to roll the consonant "r" unless you mastered gargling!
Congratulations on your wedding, Lucy! May you enjoy the happy times and weather the tough times together ❤️🍀 Got to love Karen Gillan - she can do more of a Scottish accent when on UK talk shows, though 🙂 Oh, and black pudding definitely is a euphemism - in Germany, the stuff is simply called „Blutwurst“ - blood sausage… 😂
I'm from Melbourne Australia, and I find Chris Hemsworth hard to understand because he has a deep voice, speaks quickly and doesn't enunciate clearly. I don't think he has a Melbourne accent as such; we have quite a range of Aussie accents here and there's not really a typical Melbourne one. Also, he did say "new", not "noo"; but perhaps not as precisely as you would, so maybe you didn't pick it up.
Well, I caught up with most of the accents. As always, thank you for doing those valuable videos. It was great to watch! We appreciate your efforts in making them 🤍

In North Africa we study British English because it is so organized❤️🇩🇿🇬🇧.
So, American English is unorganized?
@@stevenhoskins7850 no it is not that don't take it bad
It is just the colonial western education
In algeria for example they learn british English and metropolitan french(like most past respective colonies)
The british accent is however quite fancy
So most past colonies learn british English on writing ✍
However when it comes to oral it is tricky
Most teachers can't do the generic british accent(Pronunciations)

Congratulations Lucy I wish that you will be happy in your life
Congratulations on your wedding, Lucy! May you enjoy the happy times and weather the tough times together ❤️🍀
Got to love Karen Gillan - she can do more of a Scottish accent when on UK talk shows, though 🙂 Oh, and black pudding definitely is a euphemism - in Germany, the stuff is simply called „Blutwurst“ - blood sausage… 😂
Lol.. really good to know I'm not the only one who love watching Lucy because she's good... congratulations to her too.how often do you watch her?
Congratulations Lucy❤️❤️❤️ for the wedding and the moving, so many changes in a short time. Thank you for lesson as always.

Hi, Ma'am , your class is absolutely awesome,it is very useful, thank you ma'am ❤
I find the Lucy's accent the most easiest
That's what I was thinking throughout the vedio and I commented that but saw your comment later
Same😁❤️
You're accent is the absolute best and most pleasant to listen to. : )
Love 💗 from India 🇮🇳❤️💗
Your pronunciation of Candice Swanepoel is spot on. Well done.
my favorite part was when you said "morcilla" haha sounds so delicate ^w^ definitely isn't to everyone's taste

Well, I caught up with most of the accents. As always, thank you for doing those valuable videos. It was great to watch! We appreciate your efforts in making them 🤍
The English Plan- since gardening season has come to a close,(mostly)… I “will” start using your planner as a helper for next year’s garden. I have a lot of questions in grammar and have grown tired of being King of the ellipses. 🐸
Congratulations to you both! A life full of love and happyness! 🎉🎉🍾🥂❤❤🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
