    Your attitude is very mature for your age, don't let manchildren over the internet tell you what you need or don't need to have. The type of people who get offended over other's jewelry choices have some deeper issues they're compensating for. Cheers

    Smart move to stay true to yourself. We should be celebrating individual choices, and slow to besmirch someone for not being like everybody else. Yes, we can all share opinions and discussions, but ultimately it's your money, your wrist, your preference. I may not agree with it, but I respect you for sticking to your convictions

    I have an SKX I've owned since 2006. It has stopped working and I decided to replace the movement and mod it into something fresh. I agree, the blue left a lot to be desired. Much like the Vostok, the SKX has a cult following but, its not for everyone.
    Let me end by saying; most diver watches never see water. The tool look is appealing.
    Own and wear what makes you feel good.

    Some very important points that a lot of people should take on board. I always watch your reviews as I know I will get an honest opinion.
    That's what I want from someone reviewing a watch, and that's what you get here.

      @itsKibbleTalksWatches  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate it that a lot James!
      At the end of the day watching a reviewer means you will sometimes agree and disagree with the person, doesn't make them a bad person or reviewer lol!

    • @jamesbrand4923
      @jamesbrand4923 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course it doesn't! I love watch collecting, but there is a lot of snobbery and a lot of people seem to get offended if you criticise a watch they love, it's like you were telling them that their kid is ugly! Lol
      But at the end of the day the one thing people need to remember is this....there is no right or wrong answer..period...there is no book that you look at to find what is the best Watch in the world or what is the best car in the world....they are all opinions,with no definitive answer.
      It's all subjective, just like clothes,art right the way through to finding someone attractive...all subjective ...

      What you're saying and doing is so convoluted, then why didn't you purchase the Seiko oyster style bracelet for it then, or a BoR for it, and why don't you mind it on the Rolex's so much etc?

  • @nigelkibble
    @nigelkibble 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Our reasons for selling our watches is totally personal and we should not take any notice what other collectors say . Our watches need to make us feel good inside , we all grow with collecting and make choices that are personal to ourselves and will sell watches that others feels are icons in the watch world but it's important to realize that it's only an icon in their opinion . How you buy and sell is your decision alone . Keep up with the great reviews and stay true to your beliefs .

    I'm kind of the same - if I'm not wearing it I (mostly) don't see the point of having it. The SKX is cool but it certainly has its limitations and nowadays I vastly prefer the Monster because it hacks, handwinds, and is more acurate. Might well sell mine too. We'll see. The nice thing is it's fairly sought after so no need to rush the decision.

    I love my SKX009 and am wearing it as I type this. You sold it for the right reason. I actually like that the dial isn't really blue because it some needed formality. Still, the blue only does appear in photos with a good flash. It's borderline false advertising.

      I bought my first one grey-market but it wasn't charging properly. After almost a month of the dealer trying to repair it, they finally sent me a new one. In that time while it was being repaired I came into some money, and toyed around with other more expensive watches to replace it. I was going to sell my new SKX when it got back, but once I saw it again I was in love. Nope, it's not going anywhere. I just got a Super Jubilee in today, so it's looking pretty classic right now. Love the way the jubilee compliments the bezel ridges.

    Do what you want. Funny, just got an SKX on sale, less than US$200. It is a dated watch for sure, no Sapphire, hacking, hand winding, and already had a Pepsi Orient Mako... but I saw an SKX007 in person and since I like the Pepsi, got the SKX009. Just an everyday bang-around tool watch on different NATO's for cheap working blokes.

    I had the pepsi version but i realized i hate the pepsi bezel look after wearing it a while. The black on black is the way to go. I go back and forth on the SKX sometimes i love it sometimes its just meh but i want to always have it in my collection as it is a great watch. I dont like the pepsi bezel style at all on my wrist looks great in pictures but doesnt look right to me on wrist.

    I'm a Seiko fan and the skx is a handsome piece with a strange cult following. Truthfully though I feel it's lacking features for the price, there are a lot of options out there in the 200 $ range. Seiko should drop in a modern movement with hacking and hand winding to bring the SKX up to speed. I just bought a deep blue NATO 300 with a Seiko nh36a(hacking and hand winding day/date), sapphire Crystal and applied indices for 150$ before shipping(Steal).

    I just got my first skx (A 009) after years of not seeing the point in them. I got it because it's cheap and I wanted to try one before I disliked it or see what the fuss is about.
    Its impressive for the money but so far it seems a bit like a Sainsburys meal deal... sandwich, crisps and a drink is great for £3 but if I have a job and the money I'd rather go Pret (Seiko sbdc053) or a cafe (Seiko sbdx017) 😁 .... maybe even a restaurant (Omega/Rolex)
    I'll give it a few months and worst ways I won't lose much if I sell it on but I can see it has character which the mako2 didn't in my opinion

  • @muCephei_
    @muCephei_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love the look of the watch specifically the case, but I was never a big fan of metal straps. I feel like it doesn't add any character to it. Maybe wearing it with a colorful NATO strap or even a leather strap might have been what you needed to do. But I'm just wondering now why you stopped appreciating it if you know the reason. Maybe you started appreciating higher end watches like the Rolex and the Seiko seemed cheap compared to it? Just a speculation.

    Hello there James glad to see you've got over that bug you had recently. Hope you had an okay Christmas and I wish you well for the fast approaching New Year 2017.
    On the subject of the video. Personally I couldn't give a monkeys what you or anyone else does or does not do with their watches. Or in fact anything else they own. You've paid for it or been gifted it or otherwise acquired the watch therefore its entirely your own decision what you do with it. I fail to understand what it has to do with anyone else. Unless you've received it as a gift then perhaps the person who gave you it might feel a bit miffed it you got rid of it. I don't know from where this flak you speak of is coming from but if I were you I'd either ignore it completely or tell the person to sling their hook as it's none of their business what you do with your possessions, watches definitely included.
    I personally would not buy the Seiko Skx009 primarily because it lacks hacking and handwinding and these functions for me are very important. Also let's face it the watch is no great shakes anyway. When alls said and done it's just a cheap fairly ubiquitous entry level divers watch.
    Anyway those are my own particular thoughts on the subject.
    I'll say bye for now by reiterating my sentiment that I hope the New Year is a happy, peaceful and prosperous one for you and your family. Good luck James and good luck with the channel also. Take care bye for now.

    People who are concerned about being able to 'trust your opinion' should learn to trust their own judgement ABOUT your opinion, and then they wouldn't be worried about what you did with your own possessions. Opinions shouldn't be trusted - they should be assessed.

    If you can, don't get rid of your salute at the start. It's one of your signatures, like your 'Peace. Out' ending. I heard a dull pulsing background noise in this video. Not sure what that was. Yes, it was your watch, so it's yours to do with as you see fi No, I've never owned a Seiko SKX, but I've nothing against them, let alone people who like them. Here's the rub though; watches and cars are very personal. They speak of who we are, or at least who we think we are, and what message we want to covey. Moreover, watches are worn on us, as useful jewellery. When someone says negative things about a watch, or has influence as you do and sells one that lots of folk like, you cut directly into the personal understandings we have of ourselves. Watches, jewellery and cars are sumbols. Computers aren't. Symbols transmit meaning about us. Computers are tools to share knowledge and get work done. This is a big difference. Flags and family photos are symbols. Look at what happens when they're disrespected, rightly or wrongly. Religions are full of symbols and when those symbols are disrespected it called sacrilege, a crime, and even wars break out because of these things. Here endeth the lesson. Speak honestly, as you do about watches, but be fullly aware that for many people they're symbols rich in power, evoking passions, not just any old object. Keep going strong, and have a truly wonderful and blessed New Year, and your lovely family, too.

    I have a simple equation to buying and selling watches, which may be a little EXPERIMENTAL if you know what I'm saying 😋. I have a two step system:
    1. I buy the watches I like
    2. Sell the watches I don't like or get tired of.
    Whether it's Omega, Seiko, Invicta, or Daniel Wellington, their are plenty of reasons why people buy and sell watches, and in the end it comes down to either the fact that they love the watch for various reasons (aesthetics, craftsmanship, horological history, or utilitarian usage), or they buy them because a FP Journe wearing watch snob has informed them that "Your Stuhrling is a piece of shit" and recommends they save up for two decades for a " Journe or Tudor Black bay". Y'know, get the watches you love, this is where the spirit of owning a watch resides.

      @jonathondenesi3291 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This rant was maybe a bit unrelated to your video lol but I got triggered when you talked about some of the comments you got for selling it. Related or not, still the same. And I'll add in, I have nothing against FP Journe. Just saying

    I owned an SKX009J a few months back. After I had it for a couple of weeks I decided that it wasn't for me so I sold it. Largely because of the exact reasons you had for selling yours. The blue was just not very blue (especially on the Japanese one), no hand winding just sucked, it wasn't that accurate, I think it has ugly hands and the case design is just boring, uninspiring and uninteresting.
    Also I'm sorry but I don't buy into the whole "legendary status of the SKX".
    So I put the money from my sold SKX towards a 2nd gen Monster and boy oh boy, now that's an awesome watch. Pretty much the same in terms of fit & finish but with a more unique and cool design, a better quality bracelet and the best fucking lume I've ever seen.
    Aaaand I realised that this next part ended up as a rant about Seiko's supposedly superior to any Swiss watch's build quality... Sorry about that ^^
    However I think both these watches are VERY over-hyped. I've now owned a SKX009j, a SRP307j and my I've handled my buddies SKX007k and they are great watches! I'd honestly still buy my monster if was priced 200€ higher than it is now, I love the design, the lume, that gorgeous brushed bezel...
    BUT they are no Swiss pieces...
    My Fortis and my fathers Eterna blows my monster away in terms of fit & finish. The action on the Monsters/SKX's bezel's just feel really weird, like a slow turning wheel that makes clicky noise at every minute marker. My Fortis bezel has 120 distinct clicks that I move the bezel around, the Monster/SKX is just kind of mushy with clicky noises. The Malaysian SKX has more defined clicks however but it feel very hollow and tinny.
    The polished parts on the Monster/SKX looks way to white, it's hard to describe but they almost look chrome plated next to an Eterna's polished case. They're both supposed to use the same steel tho, I don't know, comparing them side to side the Monster almost looks like it was plated.
    Then again my Monster was 240€, my Fortis was 1400€ and my fathers Eterna was 1700€, it's not a fair comparison but some people here on forums and youtube seem to genuinely believe that they're as good as expensive Swiss watches, they're not. There is no such thing as a free lunch.
    Before some of you decide to kill me I do think Seiko makes great value watches, I would still recommend the Monster if it was 440€ instead of 240€. Tho maybe not 1600€.

      I'm sorry for your life. Rich is not better than poor. Rolex is not seiko, and seiko is not Rolex. Having rolex doesn't make you more human than those who own seiko or anything less. That's my point of view and it's the truth. Love people and use things; the opposite never works.

    You seem to be a nice chap....
    Sell a few of your timepieces......invest in better background.....get rid of the horrendous looking cheap built furniture....invest in proper wood furniture......never hang a suit on the wall......I think you'd realise one day about the wallpaper too.......
    The collection of watches does not agree with your surroundings unfortunately.
