@@gregjudyregenerativerancher Hey Greg! We had 2 ewes and 1 ram as we're really small and just starting out. Last week one of our ewes dropped 1 ewe lamb. Well, the other adult ewe doesn't seem pregnant(she's almost 1.5 years old now). I gave the ram access around December/January 2022-2023. What would you do with the one ewe who's not pregnant? If she doesn't lamb by fall, should I get rid of her? Would anyone buy a ewe who won't seemingly lamb?
We’ve had the same weather pattern in Ct. So many beautiful ewes and babies. Dr. Ken Berry mentioned that he recently attended one of your workshops. You and he are both heroes to me. 😁
If sheep hoof lameness does not clear up due to wet weather I have used a rinse of copper sulfate then put on and in between the hoof a paste made of sugar and betadine, bandage it and put masking tape on the outer bandage to keep it dry. But most of the time moving to high dry ground usually helps clear it up.
Lovely looking sheep flock Greg! I see the sheep have access to the forest cover as well, I bet the sheep love freshly sprouted leaves.. Seems like a good strategy for developing silvopasture.
That ewe with the dark pair of lambs: I bought some bean seeds this winter called Jacobs Cattle (and the beans really do look like miniature cattle) the origin is a very interesting story of Jacobs cattle, goats, and sheep.
I had a Rott who hated the predator birds and would run underneath them and bark, he taught that to my pug/terrier..people wondered what was wrong with that dog, running in circles barking.. I miss that dog, passed at 17.
Thanks for the video! Sheep and LGDs are match in heaven. I put my ram with my sheep December 2, and we have no lambs yet. I’m wondering if my ram is no good. Can he be to short to get the job done? He was smaller than the rest of the sheep. He’s starting to catch up some but if he doesn’t produce he won’t stick around very long. Everything looks pretty green there. It’s a little cold here but will be trending warmer. We did get a quarter inch of rain on Sunday. We need more though with all this wind we are getting.
I'm in the same boat. I have a feeling that my pasture is not up to snuff and they are missing some important nutrients altogether. I was hoping for May 5th lambing, but again it seems to be a no-show. I'm thinking that the ram will be shipped out in June or July either way.
My ram is also much much smaller but the same age as many other ewes that are twice his size. I'm thinking I may need to switch his out if he doesn't grow
I'll bet you're in for some more triplets-- oh wait there goes a set now! Actually was surprised you didn't have a sock on. The audio was mostly great (97% and I won't ever complain about that. The breeze here has been wearing us out lately. Can't wait to see more lambs, speckled and otherwise.
Hey Greg, thanks for keeping these going so faithfully, I am jealous of how far along your grass is, but it is my own fault. If you have a second I have a question about your sheep. Do your dogs get into any lambs that don't make it? And what numbers do you use to calculate your lamb crop, i.e. surviving lambs divided by the ewes? I had a few triplets this year and I sent some half dead lambs to my sister, but they would have died, so I don't count them, is that how you would do that?
Greg, when did you & Jan decide to start adding the genetics from other breeds into the St. Croix flock? What breeds, and for what reasons? I have noticed that your cattle videos greatly outnumber your sheep videos. Is this because the sheep are so low maintenance? Also, how far away from the sheep were you filming from? Thanks
They started with a handful of different sheep breeds. However for a few years they have just been using Saint Croix Rams. I don't know if they have any non-Saint Croix blooded Ewes remaining. They are mostly half Saint Croix now.
Thanks for those responses, Mark. I couldn't recall if Greg has ever fully explained where he obtained the original seed stock for the South Poll cattle herd, and the St. Croix sheep flock. As I remember things, the genesis for the sheep flock came from another Missourian, an older man who was getting out of the sheep business? I can't remember from what point that Greg & Jan started with South Polls.
On a pasture lambing situation do you have the granny ewes? The ones that get close to lambing and seek out any other ewe who's lambing to claim her lambs.
Do the sheep kill the Multiflora Rose by eating the leaves off the plant, do they also each the branches, or how are they able to kill the Multiflora Rose plant? Thank you.
I have heard you say a couple of times now, leave the sheep alone while they are lambing. I have seen others going after what they call "hung lambs.". How do you handle that?
Great video!
Would love to see a video on marketing lambs sometime. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
our lambs are dropping now too from our judy ram, cutest thing i've seen.
That’s awesome!

She is probably pig fat, she would make excellent meat to feed your family. Don’t keep a ewe that does not give you lambs.

Dr. Berry is awesome, wish I had gotten time to do a TH-cam video with him while he was at our conference.
What a lovely picture at the start! And, gorgeous lambs and moms. It's like watching the pages from a book come to life!
People will complain, it doesn’t matter what you do! Thank you for sharing your knowledge sir!
Thanks very much for sharing your knowledge, greet from Nigeria.
Looking good Greg, live every day to the fullest!

They're super productive! I'm going to be selling several starter sets of sheep/rams this year.

Keep it up Greg 👍🏻👍🏻 I might have just buy one of those beautiful guardian dogs from you next year. I’ll be in MO by then 😊
enjoyed the video thanks for sharing have a blessed day
Good morning ☕️
God Bless
Patient endurance does seem to be a good trait for anyone working with livestock.

I'm sorry. I know that loss is hard to match.
Those babies are so cute
Hi whats your advice on your view on grazing or joe salatin way of grazing .
What is your process for rotating new rams in and how many breeding seasons do you keep them?
Good question for beginners
They keep a few 19 months olds and several seven months olds for breeding.

very nice information
What breed are the guardian dogs?

They move the cattle four times for every sheep move; this could be a factor.

Wow beautiful testimony I'll but it!
Gollleee Greg them sheep are plain fat. Great looking flock

Hi Greg, what lamb loss percentage do you expect in your flock?
Outstanding!
Why did you pick the specific dates like July 7th? Great video!
Don’t change if it ain’t broke. We have never had a ewe get bred by removing rams in that date.
@@gregjudyregenerativerancher dates are added to my calendar. Thanks for all the wise words!
Do the sheep kill the Multiflora Rose by eating the leaves off the plant, do they also each the branches, or how are they able to kill the Multiflora Rose plant? Thank you.
They defoliate the bush and it dies
Why sell your best Guard Dog? Always thought you keep them. Peace from WV
We have a group of trained young dogs coming up.
How old is Lady?
I have heard you say a couple of times now, leave the sheep alone while they are lambing. I have seen others going after what they call "hung lambs.". How do you handle that?
We don’t have hung lambs
@@gregjudyregenerativerancher Interesting. Thank you!
That looks like it could be a good life. Probably closer to how God made us to live.
Why are you getting rid of Lady?
Getting old????
Nope, we have more trained young dogs to take her place.
🎉
What breed of animal is that?
Never sell your best dogs.
Multiflora rose. FLOR-RAH
😊
78yr old countyboy. Grew up with sheep. Why the un dock tails. I see shitty tails. Serious problem for wool maggots.
These are hair sheep.
You don’t get maggots with hair sheep
First!
