Same here, just sank 7k into my fg rebuilding the engine after it melted no. 4 pistons and took the ring lands out of 5 n 6 🙄
As good as barras are they're not as great as people carry on .
I've learned so much during the rebuild, like for e.g. stock pistons are only good for 500whp on 98 or 550 on e85 ,anything beyond that and you've got a grenade waiting for a place to blow.
But 3r rods will 700 but if your doing pistons u may as well do rods at the same time.
Anyway I'm off to pull my fuel pump assembly apart for the 3rd time to fix the leaking o ring (wasn't aware they're a 1 use deal) I now have a love hate relationship with my fg and I've only owned it since August 20 🙄
Been running 3 weeks now and it's already leaking out the rear main 🙄🤣

What actually broke on the fg? All I could see was snapped bolts but not much else.

Is yours a mark 2? I just noticed the gauges spin around on ignition, mine doesn't but is a mark 1.

Just went through a rebuild on mine ,blew up on me 2 weeks into ownership.
Melted no.4 piston, poor tuning and potentially stuffed injectors, no.5 n 6 ring lands were broken too on later inspection.
Machine shop found evidence of detonation all the way through the engine, they reckon it'd been happening for a while (long before I got it) ,it's on hp tuners atm, tuned by a reputable shop 🙄 about 5 yrs ago, getting it switched to pcmtec in a coupla weeks, tuner wanted me to put 1000klms on it first.
Had to go to 30 over pistons (Just hypatecs cause I'm poor lol) it's just an oem + setup ,I gapped the rings to 0.7mm ,they resized the rods, linished crank, recoed the head ,replaced 10 valves that were crispy and I reassembled it myself.
Mods wise it's valve springs, head studs, billet oil pump gears, 1150cc injectors (brand new) 460 in tank pump, process west intercooler and pipes, factory 3576 rebuilt and hi flowed by hypergear (has billet wheels, wastegate mods etc.) Works awesome, comes on boost hard af at around 2500, it's only the 250kw tune atm and still frys the tyres 😂 4" full exhaust.
Currently has 3 tunes ,250, 350 n 420kw, I'm ditching them for 1 350kw tune ,rather not mess around with multi tunes, there's too much compromise between them and it causes to many issues like engines exploding lol
Especially on factory ecm, I'm sure it's fine on a haltech or something, 350kw it's nice n safe, can run on 98 safely and will still run low 11s, plenty for a street car (I just don't have the budget to keep rebuilding it) but I'm going to go ham with my vn which will be getting a barra next year ,just gonna do an na setup in that ,green top with cams, triple tbs on a fg turbo intake and methanol, should be good for about 300 wheel and 600nms (I'm coping HAVAGO's setup) with maybe a t400 behind if I can stretch the budget that far that is and then trash the living f out of it 👌🤣
Hey mate got a crossflow in me cortina spin it to 7200 all the time had the same issues with the mantic clutch caught mine before that same set up exactly twin 9.5 button gone to a NPC billet flywheel with the basket a part of the flywheel no chance of this happening again great clutch would fix your issues 👍

Yeah I think it survived. She blew between 3rd and 4th so it didn't even see any load with her cooked 😆

Nah time for a sfa rated belhousing, and a better clutch, manuals are too much fun lol ,only thing I don't like about them is the 373s are too short for them, would prefer 3.5s tbh ,something un-nearving about being in 6th at 80klms lol
