Manning Sherwin included “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” in his West End musical revue, New Faces(1940). This wartime song quickly became a hit and was added to the repertoires of popular singers and jazz musicians of the day. Its lyrics captured the fleeting nature of relationships as young soldiers were temporarily stationed in England’s cities and villages, waiting to be deployed across the channel. Jim Clements created this arrangement for VOCES8.
