    Dear Santa..... Man this stove is exactly what I think would make a perfect stove/firepit combo. Flat pack, big enough to get a good size fire going to generate enough heat to burn not so tinder dry fuel. I really like this one. Thanks for sharing Mark.

    Thank you for showing and commenting on this stove. This is a great stove or small fireplace! The low weight even for this 19 cm stove is an other advantage. You can bring it everywhere. If you place the bottom plate at the highest position you can place a X-Boil on top with using the windscreen/stovestand and have a cooking place at a conveniant height. With both stoves you are still way lighter than any other stove I know. This is amazing! Isn‘t it?

    Didn’t know it till now. At first I thought it wouldn’t match up to the pico-grills, but in reality it’s actually much more versatile. The picogrill only outdoes this with simplicity of setup and packing, and its accessories which make grilling food possible. Honestly those hooked bars would make for fine skewers if they were food safe. And if need be, they could be used to secure the stove to the ground as pegs in the bottom holes (like people suggest it be done on the toaks stove, or the lixada tower stove). Awesome stuff. Thanks for sharing the product

    Nice design and great performance. For homemade wood burning stoves, I prefer to use the large coffee cans because it's more difficult to overpack it, thereby reducing the airflow necessary for efficient combustion. This stove is a great choice, since it is large, well ventilated and very light. Your windscreen is probably heavier.
    Thanks again, Mark! 👍

  • @thomasmusso1147
    @thomasmusso1147 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    👍👍👍 .. nice.
    Leo has taken an initial good design to the next level.
    Used with a reflective windscreen, it should also make for a cosy winter warmer.
    Protecting the underlying surface ..
    I have the Bush Box LF in SS (IKEA-sourced Hobo Stoves too). In addition to a Carbon Cloth 'Flammschutzmatte', on especially sensitive surfaces, I place the stove into a suitably-sized container (Military Surplus Rectangular Mess Tin / Tatonka 18cm SS Bowl / Disposable Aluminium Pie Plate / whatever ..). A small amount of water in the bottom keeps any underlying surface nice and cool in addition to taking care of errant coals and embers. Easy peas 😁.
    'Warping' ..
    Any thin sheet of metal subjected to enough heat will warp. One should near in mind that these types of stoves are not thick-walled cast iron kitchen stoves. They are essentially 'twig / forest detritus' burners. Using them within their design intent should restrict warping to an acceptable level.
    I have more than enough stores and burners (according to the 'other half' 😏) and thus currently, have no need for any of the X-Boil Products.
    That said .. how I will feel about this tomorrow is something else ..
    A good share Mark .. thanks. Take care ..

    This stove looks like exactly what I've been looking for, lightweight, packs flat, and is big enough to make a larger fire for winter & fall temperatures. I do have one question about longer duration burns, can it sustain a really long fire without filling up with ashes?
    Or would it need to be dumped?
    From reading the comments it seems that I have to contact the owner in Germany and request a special shipment to Canada? 🍁

    I like this style of stove, because you can get a good big one for very little weight, and as you said, that’s great for cold weather, and less finicky to light and keep going. But haven’t you done stoves identical to this, or at least same concept? How would this stack up to those?

    Looks like a nice well made stove but Picogrill stoves are much simpler to assemble and are similarly light . What does the X-fire better than the Picogrill?

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the smaller Picogrills are easier to assemble, but not by much. Both stoves are well designed and well made. One difference is that the X-Fire 19cm is considerably larger. Otherwise, the choice is up to the buyer. Thanks for commenting

    • @nahatlachj
      @nahatlachj 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Mark. Yes, while the large X-fire looks quite a but larger on the video than the Picogrill 239, the actual dims of the large model X-fire (19cm diameter and 19cm high) seems not much bigger then the Picogrill 239 (Folded out: Diameter: 175 mm, Height: 185 mm). However, the bottom part of the Picogrill is not flat but convex, so the actual "working" inside height of the X fire is higher indeed, so longer pieces if wood could fit. It seems the other difference (apart from ease of assembly) between the stoves is no large side opening on the Xfire, so wood has to be fed from the top, which probably is not an issue. What I like about the Picogrill 239 and similar size stoves like the X fire is that they are big enough to be used as a contained small camp fire, and when used for cooking can accommodate larger pieces of wood so that one does not have to constantly feed it very small pieces. I don't know why anybody would use very small stoves like the Firebox Nano or similar size Bushbox models for cooking with wood (except as emergency stove) - very frustrating in my experience .

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting question. In truth, I don't see one being better than the other. The BE XXL is much more heavy duty and a bit larger than the X-Fire. The X-Fire is much lighter both in weight and construction. I would be inclined to use the XXL more at a stationary campsite and the X-Fire if I were doing more hiking. Hope this helps.
