Brodie, even if you stopped playing on the tour I think your involvement is key to the future success. I hope you keep going to these events even if simply as a media person. Cheers! 🍻

    So if she actually instructed him to get it, note that would be violation of 810.D and she would have instead received an additional penalty stroke… at which point she would presumably choose to abandon the throw and re-tee shooting 3

    Back in high school in the early 80s we were playing our cross town rival in football. Towards the end we were up by 3 and they were clearly running for a long TD when a guy on our team purposely stepped on the field and collided with the runner. The kid was ejected and we were penalized 15 yards from where the collision occurred. However, we stopped them and won. Totally unfair but that was the rule they had in place.

      Falcon might work, but a golden retriever literally is an animal that loves to catch discs and could be taught to take it to the basket. Air Bud, but with some real air.

    DGPT needs to reach out to the local disc golf club of each city they stop in and get 12-18ish people who are certified officials to volunteer to be rules officials at the event. Get the people who are Running/TD’ing multiple local events each year and a handful of the local pros/legends.
    6 people per shift covering ~3 holes each. Give them free access to the event on the days/shifts they don’t officiate. Give them walkie talkies or some other way to efficiently contact the TD in case of a tricky situation.
    Rules can easily be verified/validated, Close OB calls can be decided on, stances/foot faults can mostly be overseen.

    The rule is necessary, but perhaps it should be clarified between intentional hitting and being hit in an OB area. What if a disc is over OB intentionally, looks like it's probably coming back in, and it's smacked down? Now what if it's just someone who doesn't get out of the way and lets himself get hit?

    PDGA/DGPT needs to have officials on the course to arbitrate things like this. At the professional level, it shouldn't be on the players. At the AM level, yeah you police yourselves; at the local tournament, C or B Tier, yeah. Pro Tour? Officials on the course every few holes.

    This is rather speculative, but I could easily see how a buddy of a player who is watching his round catches a disc going OB just to help him out. I mean you could abuse the rule intentionally quite easily.

    From my point of view, the diver is on the op line. So there is nothing to argue. But, it should be indisputable, and not leave thing up to interpretation. So he should probably have stayed a few meters further to the right.

  • @JimStanley3
    @JimStanley3 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So did Madison and Uli actually "cheat" because they didnt take their lie at the point of contact or rethrow? A rule is a rule and you should still be penalized even if you didnt know the rule (or choose to ignore it).

  • @zodiackeeler9169

    • @WKelly42
      @WKelly42 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If that's how the rule is written, it's a really bad rule. You're telling me that the PDGA is leaving it up to someone's REALLY subjective opinion of whether it's POSSIBLE the shot could MAYBE land back in bounds?? That's nuts.

    • @seymourglass26

      @@WKelly42 These kinds of calls are all over the place when it comes to things like OB. For instance, did the disc cross some imaginary boundary and if so, where?
      It's one of the reasons I don't like courses with a lot of OB. My ideal disc golf involves playing the disc where it lands unless the disc is irretrievable (i.e. lost). Then replay the previous shot with a one-stroke penalty.

    Online disc golfers and redditors continuing the trend of being the most out of touch drama goblins of all time. If my disc was late turning into that water like hers, I wouldn't have cared if a spectator jumped the ropes and power dived off the bank to grab it. I'm taking the stroke anyway and now I get my disc back for the rest of the tournament.

    Brodie you are way off on the rule for this. You need to look up subsection "D" of the interference section but since you didn't I'm giving it to you here "It is a violation if a player or their equipment interferes with the course of their own thrown disc. The throw and one penalty throw are counted in the player's score; the player continues play from the previous lie. Any other penalty throws incurred by the throw are disregarded. If a throw is interfered with by request of the thrower, that is considered the same as a player interfering with their own throw." - that last part is important... "by request of the thrower" so this would essentially play like just like "abandon throw" normally does. (for those that are not familiar with that either: just like "lost disc" except you still have the disc) - the rule you DID zone in on is what it would be if the diver stops the disc without being asked to.
