  • Now I know we will be fitting a Dyna electronic ignition system to this bike but whilst it's still got the original contact breaker setup now is a perfect time to run through the correct procedure to replace the ignition points, condensers & how to re-adjust the ignition timing so it's spot on.
The art of installing 'points' is a dying art for sure, many have never seen such an odd electro-mechanical concoction let alone know how to service it! So, I felt it a great idea to get this info up on the 'Tube' before even I forget how to do it!
The next video in this Series will cover the conversion to Electronic ignition so keep your eyes open for than one...
    Enjoy

I know this video is for a Honda but the explanation of how to make these adjustments helped me to understand how to set the points & timing on my Z650B2 for which I struggled to find a good video. Having watched your subsequent video, I am now considering a Dyna S update. Thanks for explaining things so clearly!

Well I better get to ordering parts. Same issue with slow starts and only running on 2 or 3 cylinders at time on cold starts for a minute or two requiring constant fuel feed to keep it alive. However my solenoid is shot since purchased so it only takes two kicks cold. I'd be more inclined to replace the solenoid and use the electric start other than the previous owner telling me the exact story your client did and even the use of ether. Spot on video. Best I've ever seen. Keep it up please.

I haven't set points and timing since the 1980's and back then, I was using feeler gauges, a dwell meter and a timing light. That was a great video. Cheers.
