I've seen a theory that Sora got the crown necklace as a present from Riku, to explain why a black crown is the Keychain token for Oblivion as a counterpart to Kairi's Lucky Charm on Oathkeeper.

    • @CryptidCritter
      @CryptidCritter ปีที่แล้ว +18

Yes! And honestly, if you connect this and then this theory about what the Crown could mean, as well as the potential theory that BOTH Riku and Sora are the Child of Destiny together, it all makes a lot of sense.
Things like Sora is being noted as a pretty normal boy by all of those who have any kind of sixth sense about the Power of Light and Dark. Comparatively, those same characters make note of just how extraordinary Riku is. Riku having this ability to just... smell the Powers of Light and Dark off of people. Riku constantly being tied to symbolism regarding Light and the Sun (even more so than his Darkness). Nomura even discussing about how "we have yet to learn WHAT Riku is". Also, you know, how the Keyblade Sora wields is RIKU'S Keyblade that he inherited by touching Riku's Light within the Darkness when Riku opened the door and was consumed by Darkness back in KH1. And Sora has been wielding that same Keyblade ever since.
Plus, Riku looks way more like he could be a descendant of Ephemer than Sora does. Like.... They have the same silver hair and the same eye color. Additionally, we also know that Riku and Xehanort and Riku have parallels to one another, that goes beyond just Riku once having been possessed by Xehanort's Heartless. And since Xehanort was considered to potentially be the Child of Destiny before he eventually became the Darkness the Child of Destiny would face, it would make sense that Riku -who parallels Xehanort- would be then the Child of Destiny/be one part of the Child of Destiny, and even further be connected by being a descendant of Ephemer.
It is even more fitting then that if Riku gave his necklace to Sora [see the Metero Shower Theory], then just like with the Keyblade, because Sora has a part of Riku with him, Sora is then able to connect to Ephemer at the Keyblade Graveyard.

The bloodline is actually belonging to Riku, hence his silver hair. He’s the chosen one from destiny islands. In chain of memories we learn through Repliku, that Riku gave Sora a charm during a meteor shower after promising to protect him always. That charm is (I believe) the crown necklace. Hence why Kingdom key has that keychain (as the keyblade was meant for Riku), and when Riku gets Oblivion, it had a black crown on it as well. I believe in KH4, two hearts will become one, Riku and Sora. Nomura did say the series revolves mostly around them and their story after all. And Riku is quite literally Sora’s light in the darkness, just like Chirithy said. Hence the KH3 opening in Stationnof Awakening being similar to KH1 opening except instead of Riku extending a hand, it’s a literally ball of light

coming from tenelle's riku video, talking about necklace theory (the channel is down rn will hopefully be back up soon)(EDIT: ITS BACK UP GO WATCH IT!!) there is a pretty convincing theory that the crown necklace was given to sora by riku, and that riku is the child of destiny. the oblivion keyblade keychain has the crown emblem, and riku was originally going to have given sora a charm, like kairi's wayfinder, so its believed the crown necklace is riku's counterpart to that. Riku may have interesting ancestry too going into the bloodlines arc. in bbs terra and aqua were drawn to riku's light, and riku was able to smell darkness in people in COM, similar to a child of destiny. it would also keep the whole idea of sora being a ordinary boy dragged into all this integral, and not retconned. it would be a pretty big brain nomura bait and switch again like with us thinking the ux player character was reincarnated into xehanort.

I was looking through the comments to see if someone said this yet lol
Also just to add, in the ML trailer, among a flurry of images, it showed a split second of Baby Riku staring at the lock on the door to Destiny Islands's heart, with the caption "Everything is connected."
It showed the scene from KH1 when Baby Sora and Riku went into the cave, but chose a specific shot that only focused on Riku.
Add that to Riku's silver hair, being born on "the Isles of Destiny," and Blue Robe Player's belief that the Child of Destiny was to be born from Ephemer's bloodline... the parallels between Ephemer and Player sealing the doors to the data world and Real Daybreak Town and Sora and Riku sealing the door to darkness...
On top of the fact that the Kingdom Key was originally meant for Riku, with the Kingdom Key sticking out on the top of Sora's KH3 crown...
      My neurons are firing lmao.
Unfortunately the video is down because Tenelle's account got hacked, most likely after a raid from Reddit. :/

If you look at it with the crown being part of his ancestry, looking at how Nomura constantly gives Sora not just a necklace symbol crown but actual Crowns to wear in KH2 as well as many artworks on the top of his head. It could point to Sora's bloodline being royalty as in he is actually a KING. Sora's continuous ability to survive things that should outright end him gives me the idea that he is perhaps an extension of Kingdom Hearts. Not like a sentient version of the entity, but a heart that was created to act alongside the X-Blade in protecting and anchoring Kingdom Hearts to the realms. Sora can connect with literally anyone that has a heart or once had a heart. His memories, body, and heart have been separated, toyed with, and experimented on and he does not stop. I mean, his body was busy being Roxas and he still somehow had a physical form with which to beat Ansem. In the same game, Ansem had lost physical form and had to rent-a-body Riku to fight.
Going back to the heart connecting, he was able to sort aside different incarnations of himself and Ventus, without stress on his own heart, and restore them later. Yes the ability has been seen elsewhere, but Sora is unique in that he maintained control of himself, rather than the outside heart taking over.
His Keyblade also being half of the X-Blade is also intriguing. Of all the designs that the X-Blade could have been, it's two KKs crossed forming an actual ethereal blade in between. It's a good indication that Sora has some level of connection to it. I also like how Roxas's original summoning of his Dual Blades was two Kingdom Keys at first. There's tons of subtlety with which we're being told about these connections. And in KH fashion, subtlety is where the real story is told.

If the crown neckless is originally Sora's, and the crown symbol is something that is really going to be connected to Scala then yes you are on to something. That said with how hard it was to see it is true that this crown symbol might not be canon yet. The crown originally being Sora's is also a question given that he is not wearing it as a child.
There is actually a really strong theory about the crown neckless. I wasn't the first to come up with this theory but I had come up with it before I heard it by someone else. So this is a theory that more then one person has come up with independent of one another.
As you may know, Namine is unable to completely make new memories. She makes copies of memories and then replaces someone within the memory. The most talked about memory in CoM is the one about the meteor shower where she hangs her good luck charm around the others neck(according to the Japanese version, I am not sure this detail made it into the English).
The thing is that she can not be replacing Kairi in this memory. For one thing both Sora and Riku have this memory, which means the a true copy of the memory exists in both of their hearts, maybe. And for another Kairi doesn't come to the islands until after the meteor shower.
Which means two things. One Sora likely forgot Kairi because the memory of her ending up on the islands was changed, and thus memories about her where likely unchained. And Two, that memory is with Riku and Sora as the only two people there. Now how gives the promise with the toy sword and who gives the good luck charm is really up in the air. After all we don't know how much Namine can change an existing memory. However since Sora is the one with something that could be a good luck charm which has stayed with him in every form with the exception of his Mer form(because he doesn't want it to rust?) then if this is the good luck charm from that memory then it seems Sora ended up with it. And it was given to him by Riku(because of a lack of anyone else there and because both boys seemed to have the memory).
If this theory is true that means that if there is a connection to Scala with the crown symbol. That connection is Riku's connection not Sora's. Which makes some amount of sense since Scala has a Black, Grey, White hair color scheme which fit's Riku but doesn't fit Sora. Yes some characters in Scala do have actual colors in their hair, however it is almost always greyed out. Seriously Dark Road more then doubled the amount of characters with that hair color scheme.
If anything I would say that if we are looking at at least two bloodlines that hair color might become important in Missing Link. And it might also effect how we see the characters in Dark Road as well. Also maybe Xion and Subject X(if she indeed has black hair, that was a fan translation and the official translation just said the room was dark).
This doesn't take away from Sora's crown/royalty symbolism. He does have it and it shows. It just might mean that Riku was the one to crown him.

I believe Sora is actually some kind of king of the realm of darkness or something similar my reasoning is that in the first game before anything else Sora has to fight a internal darkness in the form of Darkside WITH the Kingdom Key this implies that Sora already had the kingdom key in his heart AND a incredibly powerful darkness contained in his heart from the beginning I believe when he was a being of darkness he sought out the realm of lights key the same way mickey sought out the realm of darkness's kingdom key but only someone with a heart can wield it but the kingdom key of light also has the power to CREATE new unique hearts this would explain why Sora's nobody's Roxas/xion were able to develop NEW unique hearts and why they too wield kingdom keys
Now what about the crown? What is it's significance? The answer lays with oblivion.
Oblivion is the only keyblade sora wields that seems to actually be a darkness aligned keyblade and oblivion actually means something like to completely forget this would also explains why Naminé has such unique power over his memories I believe oblivion was Sora's original keyblade this is why it's key chain perfectly matches Sora's necklace and it has the power to make one forget and in order for the being of Darkness to grow his own heart and eventually wield the kingdom key he needed to forget all his darkness and locked his memory away and cast his old keyblade away this probably happened right around the time he healed Ventus as from what we see there Sora's heart is "conscious" and wise enough to know how to deal with other hearts and this also explains why we find oblivion in the room with a artificial door to darkness it resonated with the princesses of heart and sought them out into that room where Sora reobtains it
Now something I'm a bit more hesitant to theorize about is no heart and the m.o.m
I'm currently thinking that no heart is actually Sora's/moms actual original nobody that he had to cast off his old body to creat a new one for the kingdom key to give him a heart and that Mom is actually that original king of darkness or something but I honestly don't know enough about the mobile games to say but I'm thinking the box has his original memories in it that no name is actually a modified oblivion and that his real goal and in fact all the heartless's goal is to reunite all of the worlds and recreate the original one world and that because of the separation of worlds the hearts need to be gathered into kingdom hearts where they can eventually be reborn in the reborn one world
This would also explain a few other things namely how he survived falling into darkness when destiny island was overtaken the sora shadow clone Sora retaining control of himself when he was a mere shadow and anti-form and rage form and why they're so powerful the real Link that tied this together was when Xehanort used no name to take his light and thinking it would make him fall to darkness but instead Sora became furious and kicked his ass and took his light back completely against Xehanort's expectations showing off his incredible natural instincts to wield darkness and fight a master keyblade warrior and he has had many other instances of him exhibiting incredible instinctual know how about hearts the light keyblade powers magic combat techniques and most importantly the darkness and his complete lack of fear and absolute confidence that he will always return to the light

My whole thing about the Crown around Sora is that every characters symbol means something in their story.
Riku's being a Heartless symbol without the lines threw it, almost to signal that of a full or united heart.
Kairi's could easily be the heart we always see everywhere and it would be a sign of her being a Princess of Heart.
Mickey, Donald and Goofy with the Disney crest showing they are of Mickey's Kindgom and hail from such.
Roxas's being the X and the whole thing of the sigil the Nobodies get when they first join the Organization.
Terra and Aqua's being the Wayfinder and all the meanings we get for those in BBS.
Ventus being linked to both the Wayfinder and the Dandelions and the signification of his duality that is his life and Vanitas's.
The Heartless, hearts with X's threw them as to signal a lack of such.
The Nobodies, The upside-down heart with spikes threw them as if seeking a replacement for such.
The Unversed, a heart covered in thorns, as if to say its bleeding, or suffering endlessly.
Even Xehanort with the Goat motif linking him to Luxu all the mysteries him and the MoM's might have shared with him.
The only symbol we don't get a rough idea of a meaning for is Sora's its just always kind of been, there. I think you may be on to something but I dunno if it will be the whole bloodline thing or more of a "He will rule when all is said and done." type thing. I dunno, I want to see what you guys think of such. Let me know!

I think it’d be neat if, rather than simply being a symbol denoting royalty or pureblood status, if it was a crest for some sort of faction like an order of knights or something. We know the rules of keyblade society dictate that you should always avoid meddling in other worlds, but what if they had a special group who’s job it was to go out and defend the World when necessary, and Sora unknowingly took up that duty from his ancestors. It’d be good because then he’s technically still nobody in the grand scheme of things, but it gives him more of a mission and role. Obviously nothing lore-wise supports this, just a fun idea I had while watching.

As for the crown possibly being a gift he received from someone else? I think is very unlikely too. There’s been plenty of moments throughout the series where Sora could’ve mentioned it being a gift. Considering that Kairi’s good luck charm is brought up a couple of times, it seems odd to not have the crown necklace be brought up if it was related to someone else too?

The crown is also found explicitly in the Book of Prophecies, I think in many cutscenes of Back Cover. The kingdom key also appears. I still think that it's there because MoM saw Sora do everything he does in the future (our present), and when he wirtes and draws everything related to Sora in the Book MoM calls him the "Child of Destiny". Then, the crown in Scala and everywhere else is just based in the drawings found inside the Book, implying everything is connected to that Child described in the book.

Another thing to throw into the mix is the name of one of Sora's finishing moves in Final Form: "King of Hearts". I've been theorizing for some time that either the Lost Masters arc or whatever comes after is being staged to be a clash to determine the "king of hearts", whatever that's supposed to be or mean, once the 7 fragments of Darkness are destroyed (which I assume are currently in the Master's Box until they can be unleashed and latch onto the Foretellers' hearts). Perhaps even the act of destroying them is part of what puts someone in the running for becoming "king".
Something else that might play a role in the concept of bloodlines and Sora is the fact that as far as I know Sora did not have the crown necklace until he was older (perhaps as he turned 14 before the beginning of KH1). It would make for an interesting heirloom of sorts perhaps passed down by one of his parents.

  • @Aero_Blitz

    Here's what I personally believe:
While I do think that the crown motif and Sora being depicted as this "king" of some kind in a lot of Nomura's art is rather intentional and possibly alluding to something or an idea that Nomura's had in the back of his mind since the initial conceptualization of kingdom hearts, I personally don't believe as though Sora was ever "chosen" to be this important person.
Instead I have a different ideology/theory when it comes to this; I do believe that Sora started out as a completely normal ordinary boy. it's been stated time and time again throughout the series and even in interviews (especially the most recent ones) where Nomura said one of the main core themes of the series is that "anyone can be a hero", however I also don't think that this necessarily means that Sora can't ever be anything beyond that. Obviously we all know that Sora has also been said to be the key to everything and, specifically when looking towards the dark seekers arc, he has been said to be the one to put an end to all the characters' aching and stop Xehanort once and for all so in that sense he is obviously very important.
So in essence what I mean is instead of Sora being a descendant of an important figure or a keyblade wielder or whatever have you, alternatively maybe he starts out as a completely normal kid and *becomes* someone who he previously wasn't. Someone who rather earned the status of being this possible king of some kind and a true hero to all due to the strength of his will and heart to save and connect with others.
Perhaps in the days of Scala it was told that this "Child of Destiny" would emerge and stop the darkness, marking them as a king. But as for who this is it could be anyone. Maybe not always meant to be uniquely just Sora but he manages to become that person through his efforts. Maybe there could even be multiple children of destiny throughout generations, who knows. The whole child of destiny plot point is still relatively new at the moment so right now it's all up for debate.
Although this king and crown motif has always existed in the series it only becomes stronger and stronger as time goes on (i.e kingdom hearts 3 having the most of it out of any game). So maybe Sora becomes more and more important in the grand scheme of things as time goes on as he climbs all the way to the top and, again, possibly earning the right of being a king.
And I personally believe as though this lines up more with what Nomura reaffirmed in one of his most recent interviews with him saying "anyone can be a hero" rather than simply dismissing it as possibly another one of Nomura's lies just to throw us in for a loop. Specifically when focusing on the "Can be" aspect. Sora at the start of KH1 wasn't really anyone special or a hero, he was a normal kid who plays around and hangs out with his friends but instead he chose his fate in life and through his determination he instead *becomes* this hero, this "king".

I still firmly believe that sora hasn't become a keyblade master yet because he's destined to become the/a master of masters. That's probably why he's constantly set back to level 1, and ascending faster and higher than before each time. He might be depicted with a crown because he's destined to be the best of the best, in terms of keyblade wielding and... hearts?
Also, probably worth noting that he never had a keyblade passed down to him. He EARNED it by showing his heart was strong enough, and taking it back from Riku. And that HIS keyblade, the kingdom key, is the one that shows on the X-blade.
Sora's definitely far, far more important than the games like to make him out to be.

You're onto something. I bet Ephemer is wearing a Crown necklace under the bandana and it'll be a big reveal thing. Always wondered why that whole area is covered up.

Sora's Dad is mentioned in Birth by Sleep by Riku. Telling Terra "My friends Dad rows us out here..." the same little island with the keyhole.

What if Sora is the physical form of Kingdom Hearts? Somehow

My theory on the crown symbol is a kinda simple one. The crown signifies what makes Sora special compaired to others. "Connection" Sora doesn't gain his power from his own heart like other keyblade users but as he said the hearts of everyone he cherishes. Which in turn makes him more powerful than the average user. The symbol appears anywhere connection or breaking a connection is important even on the x-blade (since it's just two kingdom keys stuck together)
You also showed how the symbol shows up on the cable cars in sala. That could be because the cars link the tiers of the city again linking the symbol to connections

I just noticed the crown is the centrepiece that the heart symbol surrounds; on the cards in Chain of Memories (the back, also in the corner on the front). Not to mention, -the cards themselves are like crowns. (the cards are created from sora's heart / memories in lore)

I see Sora as the King of Hearts, like in a card deck. Think about it. Xehawort, I mean Xehanort, wanted Sora to be the thirteenth darkness in Dream Drop - the King of Hearts is the thirteenth card of hearts. Sora is also most associated with the color red for his cloths.

I don’t want Sora to have some retroactive Rey Palpatine bloodline, stories like that are overdone and send mixed messages about the what makes people special purely due to where they come from. He has a connection to the past? Fine, but don’t have that have anything to do with his ability to wield a keyblade or make it his own doing from a point where he affects the past or something

Maybe Sora's family was a family that became famous for making ways to traverse worlds, whether it be within a single world, or to other ones. Designs tram cars, and other travel tools for across the city, and maybe ships like gummi ships, without being actual gummi ships, since gummi was made by Disney characters in Disney castle.

I have a theory that Sora is supposed to be the wielder of the X-Blade, let me explain. So the X-Blade is the contrapart of Kingdom Hearts, then who is supposed to wield the X-Blade? Sora, hence the crown. Also, if we look at early drafts of KH1, Riku was supposed to give Sora the necklace, just like Riku gave the Kingdom Key to Sora after falling to darkness (which btw did we forget the X-Blade are TWO LITERAL KINGDOM KEYS? JUST SO YALL CAN REMEMBER THAT). Also don't forget about the seven crowns, that thing that Darkness said in the UX finale, we still don't know what or who the seven crowns are, but Sora is definitely one of them. Also Sora being Ephemer's reincantation is another big possibility that I fully support

Xehanort mentions Eraqus is a blueblood descending from the very first keyblade masters. (I think Brain) it's possible Sora is a long lost descendant from someone or maybe he really is a "dull ordinary boy" and is special in his own right without gifts from a bloodline

You're saying the first part like it isn't basically confirmed. Literally all that was needed to confirm the connection was for a character in Dark Road to just say "Brain is Eraqus's grandfather" wholesale; The implication was THAT strong. You even had Eraqus directly quoting Brain's line from Union Cross about how Darkness can hide anywhere including inside someone, which Xehanort also says upon sensing Eraqus's heart, and the fact that, in the cutscene where Xehanort tells Eraqus about his plans to summon Kingdom Hearts before the two fight, Eraqus takes on Brain's exact battle stance from Union Cross.

Time to dig for Sora's ancestors bones.

It was mentioned in Union Cross, I think. The 7 Crowns, or keys, that anyone can possibly use…whatever they are.
And in the image of Sora sitting on the throne with that crown on his head…there’s 7 crown symbols! One on the top of the throne (on the heart above Sora’s head), 5 shown on the front of the crown (sitting ON Sora’s head), and Sora’s Necklace itself. A total of 7 crowns all like Sora’s Necklace. 😳
