I think XXL is not actually the problem. It’s now an industry wide issue where now pretty much anyone can be an artist and can get some push/hype to get on this cover meanwhile the actual people who are upcoming/growing artist in mainstream think they are too above the magazine to be on the list. So now it’s just a bunch of random people on the list who have a moment in hip hop but no real trajectory. Usually every year there is a couple that stand out but this is like the first year where the entire list looks like a bunch of people who literally are gonna be gone by next year and that’s not even saying that it’s cause they’re bad artist but it just seem like a cool song/feature is all you need now even though everyone knows that you’re not going to be popping in the next 6 months
Finally someone sees Cash Cobain the way I see him!!! I do not get the appeal as a rapper, but as a producer, he's talented. He's on my least favorite freshman of all time list already. There's worse across the years, but his response to his freestyle, his content (IMO), and his lyrics are just....not good. But I also want to say, it's good to not know most of the people on the list. It's supposed to give you a better platform and expand your audience, but the now that XXL has little to no popularity, the platform is kinda useless. By the way, the people with a lot of projects have like...no quality music on it, it's way too many people just putting out songs that are repetitive and thoughtless, it's annoying as hell.
