Tip for medibang users who don’t fully understand the app: You can open your layers, make a layer directly above the lineart layer, tap clipping on the blank layer, and then you can color the lineart easily from there :D
I used to draw line arts with only black. But recently (since last year's December) , I changed my line art's color and it changed my whole art drastically in a good way. Like let's say the characters skin color is brown, I'll use a darker brown for lineart. God my art improved so much with only a minor change! 🙊

Ive always found putting the lineart and the colors all on the same layer really enjoyable. It's especially fun if you're trying something that's somewhat painterly. I usually do a combination of this and the technique you mentioned where you kinda use the lineart layer to do some shading. That technique gets me back into the super chill pencil drawing mentality
I love the imperfect messy look of letting both color and lineart not follow the shapes exactly in an unpredictable way : like the offset color type, but handmade hence not always in the same way, letting show some white bits and some color go over the lines. It takes practice to not look too sloppy but it’s very lively.
I recently started using a textured brush for my lineart and my art looks so much better and doing the linework is so much more fun! I also will use a photo go editing app to do a very slight color shift which gives a really nice effect
I also suffer from that problem, what I suggest doing is using the correction tool and/or having a more sketchy style. I started caring too much about having "perfect lineart" and it made me far less stressed, therefor making my art better
If you want to have smooth lineart you have to use your whole arm and make long strong confident lines. You can practise that by drawing a full canvas just of circles, as well as possible or straight lines next to each other with changing pressure. Might sound useless but it can help a lot actually

i screamed "YEEEEEEEEESSSSSS!!!" when you showed the traditional+digital method as an example...drawing on screen always felt weird for me compared to drawing on paper, but i've had too many colouring mishaps so i resorted to colouring digitally, and all the while i thought i was cheating (hso i searched the web for lineart tutorial and ended up with this video). Thank you for this! ^_^
I tend to set my lineart to multiply so it takes on the different colour of the drawing underneath without me having to change the colours of the outline all the time. I use a textured brush with a very thin line and no variation so I can focus on outlining properly. Then I go over the parts which need to be normal or ultra thick for line variation. I find that this way combines the colourful lineart+varying thickness+textured lineart effect!
The idea with traditional materials is very smart. So everything looks more unique. And lately, I’ve been thinking about adding a more traditional way of drawing in digital art, so it was very useful, thanks!

this has so many good tips! i usually do standard lineart, but that's because i do something that is simalar to changing the lineart entirely. normally i do cell shading (basically hard lines for people who don't know) and soft shading (an air brush for people who don't know) together, and they are both on separate layers from the rest of the picture. when i'm done with soft shading, i use the same air brush and make another layer with "add" and a very light color that goes with the other colors to brighten everything. when that's done, i make a layer above the lineart and clip it. i then use the air brush with a saturated color that matches the other colors (for it to show at all) and go over it lightly (if there's need to erase certain parts, i use the air brush style eraser to make it smooth). finally i duplicate both the light and dark soft shading and clip it over the lineart as well, and i'd say it looks pretty cool! oh boi this is long lol
What canvas size do you use when doing a piece? And with how many pixels so when you zoom in, it doesn't pixelate and you can draw in many layers as well...

I sometimes like bringing in thick doubled triangles or shapes that have been colored in. These come in sharp corners. I love how they look and they're so fun to draw. There's also the fact that I learnt this from my time with vector arts. Where you make paths and shapes for lineart instead This taught me how to make double layers paths that really come together when you click the fill button. I really suggest everyone tries it is so satisfying

I'm not a big of making lineart, especially the backgrounds but after watching this video, this really changed my mind. I find this helpful and creative! I should try these techniques more often.
For line art color I normally use a color lighter then the dark black and keep my line art on separate layer over the coloring then put on multiply which makes the line a darker color than the coloring
When doing warm up sketches, I like to recommend drawing using continuous lines. It allows you to loosen up, focus on observation and create a really interesting sketch.
I use a pencil-y brush then color it a darker color. like say the hair is pastel blue, a dark blue line art is what I'd use. (not the hair 100% of the time maybe like a darker shade of the shirt) and sometimes I'll blur it but usually not

I do different types of line art every artwork i do,but the line art i mostly do is clean line art,not so interesting but with the correct shading and highlighting i think it looks cute
This is great advice, thank you! I'm new to digital art and once, I tried using an airbrush on a separate layer above the lineart to see how it looked. Then I used the clipping option and it made the lines look more colorful in some spots as opposed to others

These are so cool!! I already do loads of line weight and colored lines, but I want to try all of these now. Another way I add interest is by breaking up the lineart in places so it’s not all one solid thing. This makes coloring harder since you cant use a paint bucket tool, but I find that it gives the piece a lot more movement/ a softer look
This is a lovely vid I already did the changing of the lineart color I often use dark brown, and lately I've been using textured brushes, I used to use just the plan boring brush and u think it gives my art a more unique look
I like to transfer drawings to my phone and use a stylus to do the lineart. It makes it really shaky and helps with movement. I also use different line weight.
Some of these are styles I hadn't considered (such as coloring on top, or offsetting the lineart). It was fun to see how you do lineless, because I do something similar~! Colored lines and blurring are also some favorites of mine.

I like to make my digital line art look a bit pixelated by selecting a textured brush (such as sumi or acrylic) and sizing it down to 1.5, I don't know how to describe the kind of vibe it gives my digital art but I really like it!

I use a larger brush with a lot of pressure sensitivity leaving gaps in the lineart, i use it alongside crosshatching with a very very small brush

I'm not a big of making lineart, especially the backgrounds but after watching this video, this really changed my mind. I find this helpful and creative! I should try these techniques more often.
For line art color I normally use a color lighter then the dark black and keep my line art on separate layer over the coloring then put on multiply which makes the line a darker color than the coloring

When doing warm up sketches, I like to recommend drawing using continuous lines. It allows you to loosen up, focus on observation and create a really interesting sketch.

I use a pencil-y brush then color it a darker color. like say the hair is pastel blue, a dark blue line art is what I'd use. (not the hair 100% of the time maybe like a darker shade of the shirt)
and sometimes I'll blur it but usually not

I do different types of line art every artwork i do,but the line art i mostly do is clean line art,not so interesting but with the correct shading and highlighting i think it looks cute

This is great advice, thank you! I'm new to digital art and once, I tried using an airbrush on a separate layer above the lineart to see how it looked. Then I used the clipping option and it made the lines look more colorful in some spots as opposed to others
I've done the last one, I really loved how it turned out, I did it before anyone even told me I could do it. It was the first time I had tried it too. I have done some of these too, I'm new to digital art. I got a display tablet for Christmas, but previously drew on my phone with my fingers as my pencils, lmao. This video was great !
These are so cool!! I already do loads of line weight and colored lines, but I want to try all of these now.
Another way I add interest is by breaking up the lineart in places so it’s not all one solid thing. This makes coloring harder since you cant use a paint bucket tool, but I find that it gives the piece a lot more movement/ a softer look

This is a lovely vid I already did the changing of the lineart color I often use dark brown, and lately I've been using textured brushes, I used to use just the plan boring brush and u think it gives my art a more unique look

I like to transfer drawings to my phone and use a stylus to do the lineart. It makes it really shaky and helps with movement. I also use different line weight.
i like doing lineless or changing the colour of the lineart. usually i use a dark red to do the lineart, and then set the layer to multiply.
Some of these are styles I hadn't considered (such as coloring on top, or offsetting the lineart). It was fun to see how you do lineless, because I do something similar~! Colored lines and blurring are also some favorites of mine.

I like to make my digital line art look a bit pixelated by selecting a textured brush (such as sumi or acrylic) and sizing it down to 1.5, I don't know how to describe the kind of vibe it gives my digital art but I really like it!

one of my favorite lineart brushes ive used is the dip hard pen (bleed). it has that sketchy feel. i also experimented with softening my line art, and it looks really cool uvu
