    Noble Skyrim is a great mod especially with LODs (e.g., Terrain Lod Redone and HD LODS Textures which are designed to work together). I do love the *Enhanced Vanilla Trees* a lot when sticking to Vanilla (Lush is very sweet). With regard to immersion, I find that I can not longer play in my own game without *Immersive Fallen Trees SSE.* It just makes the world more real (i.e., when you don't forest woodlands *fallen trees* are *everywhere).*
    With regard to floral overhauls, I have been a long time fan of *Skyrim Floral Overhaul* though I decided to change to *Skyrim 3D Trees,* because of the *Skyrim 3D Plants,* which does a mind blowing job on entire plant overhaul and makes the shorelines along lakes and rivers beautiful and much thicker with diverse vegetation... nicest part all in one mod for all those plants. In my mind, even if you did not use any other files beyond some of the base ferns and scrub, it would be worth it... but it's a single mod, covers tons, and does it right. Oh, and Trees & Plants billboards are included under optional (NOTE: I cannot remember if it was S3DP or EEKs or both that handles the horrible Vanilla Scrub and Dead Scrub used to hide bad landscape seams).
    With regard to *SFO* (and at present *3D Trees* ), I use *Real Forest Textures* and *Real Forest Textures [Aspin Plus]* for tree textures though I have had to use hidden files function in MO2 because of the additional crap. I love the textures for trees in this mod and it plays well with *Immersive Fallen Trees.*
    And, finally, I have come to include *EEKs Renthal Flora Collection* as a plant base with some overwrites (e.g., *Beware of the Swamp - Poisonblooms,* several of *Mari's* flower mods (because her work is a favorite and beautiful), and *Unique Flowers & Plants SSE* (hidden though I have a copy). Regarding, *EEKs,* I find most of the edits stunning and it replaces the BS *vanilla scrub-vines* ( *Bethseda's* answer to bad landscape texture seam covers) every where which a lot of folks use *Insignificant Object Remover* (which I now just use for pebbles) to remove - EEK's replaces them with some much more realistic and attractive plants. Billboards, too.
    Between S3DP and EEK's, hidden files are my friend (e.g., it's new to my own load order so I have yet to examine overlaps and preferences... but the truth is... how can you go wrong with these mods.
    Anyway, I thought I would share some thoughts... I know you have to balance a lot like hits to FPS and other such given you're recording for us and not just playing a personal game. I am sure you'll do a great job. Immersion is nice, but it's the character story line that keeps me coming back. Thanks for all you do... :)

    highly recommend all texture mods by Gamwich, especially RUSTIC Clothing also Embers HD is a must have mod, once you see the forge with it, you'll never want to uninstall it

      This. GamwichRim is pretty much mandatory for a modded Skyrim. KajuanRim is pretty important too.

      totally agree. Gamwich's stuff is superb. I prefer his children overhaul as well to all that faffing about with all the others. Its simple and they look so much better for just new textures instead of ten tons of mesh changes

  • @TheStigma

    I totally agree on Verdant. Great standalone grass that will never disappoint.
    For Trees my personal recommendation has been for the longest time "simply bigger trees". It's very similar to the enhanced vanilla tress, but the trees are a lot larger in general and much closer to the scale of actual real-life pines. It also has the same lush option if you want really dense branches, but I think the standard also looks really great all things considered ie. they don't look artificially sparse.
    You might not think that sounds like a big change (That was my initial thought too before testing) but my OH MY GOD the difference it makes to ambience is AMAZING. That simple change makes forested areas feel dense, wild and even a bit intimidating compared to vanilla-size trees where it really feels very sparse and the trees feel much less like a part of the terrain and more like randomly scattered props (kind of the same feeling you get with grass if you run it with too low density).
    Very performance friendly too.
    Riverwood with simply bigger trees transforms the entire area and it finally dawns on you that "oh yea, this is a logging settlement nestled in the edge of the forest - I get it now". Can't recommend this one enough as a visual mod. Rarely if ever do you get so much bang for your buck (in the sense of the mod being such a small alternation to a single aspect).

    Finally DynDOLOD, I did not think this would ever happen. You can even go one more step and disable the TreeLOD in the Ini to get "3D Trees" in the distance.

    • @GophersVids
      @GophersVids  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Believe it or not I had no idea that you could do that. I'll look into it and see how it affects performance.

    • @Ozin370
      @Ozin370 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Performance can definitely take a hit, at least with slower memory. It pretty much needs a tree pack that comes bundled with 3d lods intended to be used with dyndolod's ultra/3d tree functionality (otherwise you will waste a lot of resources and polygons where it really isn't needed). I believe enhanced vanilla trees is one of the few that does support it though. Personally I got decent FPS with it but struggled with quite a bit of stutter when moving the camera, I suspect it simply was too heavy for my setup (the mesh folder for dyndolod increased from around 500mb to well over 2,5gb for me with 3d tree lods)

  • @Harbinger1998
    @Harbinger1998 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For tree pop-in the best thing I found was to up uGridstoLoad to 7. It wasn't stable at all in oldrim but I've found it to be completely stable in SE. Couple this with a tree billboard replacer (not sure if enhanced vanilla trees comes with billboards for tree LoDs) to more closely match the full 3d versions color-wise. I personally use Indistinguishable Vanilla Tree Billboards. It's in the oldrim section but still works fine when used with SSElodgen. It's nice because it has several different brightness options to choose from to match based on your weather mod or enb.

    @dustmote6359 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually looked forward to these visual changes. :) I know mods offer a lot to do but they also offer a lot to *see*. I have seen people online wonder about Skyrim fans returning to the game over and over and over again, but I really think it is Skyrim itself that keeps pulling gamers back. That is why the appearance of the world, of the land, is important. That being said, I also like it that the first chapter was a mostly vanilla experience. It makes the transition more noticeable and more enjoyable, too. I'm in awe at what modding can do.
    I now have a PC but I don't yet have Skyrim for it. Thanks for these modding videos. :) They help me pick out the better mods and see what's useful.

    Noble skyrim is a great choice. It might be immersion breaking after seeing the base cities but jks skyrim is a must have. He has it completely brought over now. My favorite visuals so far are obsidian weathers+ nobles skyrim+ Jks skyrim. If you ever use jks skyrim the excuse could be that after the war that happens the citizens decide to rebuild :p. Or you can see about getting it done just for riften to simulate the growth from the thieves guilds success and mavens control if possible.

    I highly recommend Fluffy Snow, Blended Roads, and most mods by LupusHegemonia and luxor for added terrain and building stuff. Plus everything by Gamwich. in 1-2k, won't take much performance but will massively beautify the game. I am also a big fan of Skyland - I use it on top of Noble, and then replace it with select textures by a few other people. For grass, I like Verdant a lot and it feels quite lightweight in comparison to SFO.

  • @Avrysatos
    @Avrysatos 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    A reminder for everyone, as beautiful as gopher's skyrim looks, noble skyrim is NOT performance heavy! Neither is enhanced vanilla trees and verdant doesn't have to be either. These are not 4k, 8k, and crazy heavy mods.
    I've had people marvel at my skyim also, and they're stunned when I say most of it is not 4k textures! You don't need 4k to have quality.

    When installing multiple mods with overlapping effects, has there ever been a discussion about how you decide when to pick one modification over another? For instance, textures included in SMIM, Noble, ELFX, Majestic Mt, etc affect the same things. Is there a rule of thumb to guide choosing one over another?

    I would recommend checking out Kajuan's mods for creatures,skeletons and stuff.They really fit in well with noble skyrim and gamwich's rustic textures
    Also i personally think that majestic mountains look less "doughy" and more realistic than what you have currently in this vid.Oh and i don't know if it's compatible with dyndolod or not but Terrain LOD redone by the same author of majestic mountains and blended roads is a must have mod.

    Hey gopher :) Just want to give a tip for DynDOLOD. DynDOLOD has some rules for Legacy of the dragonborn, but it looks for legacyofthedragonborn.esp.... But legacy of the dragonborn recently switched to an ESM. To fix this, just go into DynDOLOD folder -> Edit Scripts -> DynDOLOD -> rules ->DynDOLOD_SSE_legacyofthedragonbornESP_high/low/medium.ini. Mod suggestion Blended Roads Roadstones are blended to the ground mesh instead of assigning a texture to an extra mesh.
    This eliminates a lot of road uvw issues. Link www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/8834/?

    For grass mods have a look at Viscous Foliage. IMO it looks even better than Verdant and its placement is fixed when you also us Landscape Fixes For Grass Mods.
    If you want a new look for your potions try Awesome_Potions.
    Cloaks of the Nords will add new HD designs to Cloaks of Skyrim.
    +1 to everyone who has recommended you Gamwich and T4GTR34UM3R.
    You may also have noticed how some weathers make water edges look straight and ugly. Water's Edge Fix takes care of that, but at the cost of making foggy weathers much less foggy. You should use Smooth Shores instead.
    Something not visual: Check out SWIFT if you want a solid quest and immersive fast travel mod. Something like Death Alternative could also be interesting now that you have Inigo to save you.

      Definitely - SMIM is a must have, High Poly Project looks amazing too. I really want to play Skyrim again, but with all the mods I HAVE to download it would take weeks which just burns me out on modding again (due to the internet being too slow, without any option to get a faster connection sadly)

    If you hadn't already started, I would recommend "JKs Skyrim". It is amazing what it does to the towns and cities.

    • @synthiandrakon
      @synthiandrakon 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Karl Olson it's not compatible with many mods though. Loads of quest mods are not compatible with jks because they add stuff to the world in places jks build stuff

    • @TheAciddragon069
      @TheAciddragon069 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      which quest mods? just wondering since i have JKs mods and don't want to run into issues

    • @synthiandrakon
      @synthiandrakon 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheAciddragon069 it's hard to say essentially because jks adds tangible things into the game. This can lead to certain objects being missing which can break quests. Just looked it up and it looks like jks is better than most city mods for compatibility because it doesn't change much about the cities themselves so it should be fine for the most part. The only other issue is it is a performance drop

    • @TheAciddragon069
      @TheAciddragon069 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      eh performance isn't an issue for me so i'm not too worried about it

      Maybe once I have all the visual mods sorted out and lighting set correctly for this sort of play through. Post processing is always the last thing to do and should only be done for specific things that can only be achieved with post processing in my opinion. Better shadows (Oldrim), better ambient occlusion etc. The icing on the cake, so to speak :)

  • @howtaobrowncow
    @howtaobrowncow 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I did notice one problem with clearer distance viewing: the world looks smaller. Normally, things far away are either not visible or low-res (i.e., fuzzy). With everything this sharp, it all looks closer and the Whiterun area doesn't look as spacious. Of course, that's an actual problem in the game. I remember when I first started Skyrim, everything looked vast and amazing, but eventually I started to realize how small everything actually was, and how quickly you could run across the whole map, and it all got smaller and simpler. Which was sad, but kind of inevitable really. This does make it worse, imho.

    It's a bit much to ask but can we get a mod list with links on gophervids? While i would love for Mod Sanctuary (and Mod Vault, for that matter) to come back, but that seems like asking for the moon and all that entails. Just a simple list where we can look and explore mods that we may or may not have heard of.
