I hadn't really listened to this work in its entirety before. Very fine music indeed, wonderfully delivered - spine-tingling in places. Just love it.
Я так в любилась в эту симфонию, что теперь по утрам слушаю и в поездке на работу. Опера интересная очень, особенно сложные перепады ... Даже не знаю терминов, чтобы объяснить.
Le timbre de la voix de la soprano Lim Seon-Hye est vraiment extraordinaire ! Quelle densité ! Les coréens ont une excellente oreille, et ce peuple adore l'opéra. Les parents coréens d'une amie de mon père avaient d'ailleurs monté Faust de Gounod à Séoul en 1950... Un triomphe !

This magnificent work places Händel as the greatest dramatic and vocal composer of the Baroque (and one of the greatest of all time, without a doubt). Bach didn't write anything even remotely like this.
Bach's contract with the Leipzig city fathers explicitly forbade him from writing opera in the Italian style. And what about the St Matthew Passion?
@@walterleipzig Bach never wrote an opera in any style! Handel could compose big secular or religious works in just about any language, I think Bach's style was limited in this respect
OMG, I LOVE THIS SEMI-STAGED "PRODUCTION" of my VERY FAVORITE Handel oratorio, better than any of his English ones. I suppose they are kinda apples and oranges, but still. Anyway, this also marks my first time seeing the whole entire work in a live concert. Sadly, New York City has yet to see its premiere of this work. (My only experience with it is through the two commercially available recordings with Alessandrini/Concerto Italiano and that Haïm/Concert d'Astree) Thank GOD for TH-cam AND Harmonia Mundi. I REALLY HOPE this recording comes out! Is there any plan to do so?
Both the Alessandrini and Haim recordings are very good, but I still have a slight preference for the Marc Minkowski / Les Musiciens du Louvre one from the mid-80's, originally on Erato (used copies for sale on Amazon) but probably since reissued on Warner Classics. I highly recommend it!

Sehr schöne Aufnahme....aber wie immer wird das continuo praktisch nie gezeigt von der Kameraführung äußerst schwach. Ich würde gerne auch die harte Arbeit der Cembalistin sehen!

@@DGJJJP sorry to say I'am not agree with you at all. I found Sunhae has a color and a timbro in her voice so beautiful, very special.. the way in wich she sing last aria of the Oratotorio bring to the audiance such a pure beauty! really amazing!
The quality of the recording is brilliant, it is a great pity that Emmanuelle Haim's 2007 year ERATO recording is not of this level. But Natalie Dessay ,Ann Hallenberg, Sonia Prina, Pavol Breslik singing in another league. I’m sorry to have to say this, but Bellezza in particular was disappointing.
I agree... Bellezza (the Korean soprano) is very disappointing... not a big fan of this soprano... the surprise was Piacere, Robin Johannsen is amazing!!!

From a purely musical point of view, this execution is good, very good. Yet the diction is not accurate AT ALL. I couldn't understand a single word of the text when sung by the sopranos - and the others are highly disputable in their Italian. What a pity!
The instrumentation changes and improvised sections such as in the b section of un pensiero were delightful... but some of the tempi are ghastly. Crede l’uom was way too fast as well as some others.

Yes, Exstra bellissimo!
Decent soprano without anything special as Bellezza, Piacere sung by female soprano not by countertenor/male soprano/alto and it is already satisfying. But of course her singing is far for baroque splendor. Tenor is horrible, just one huge wobble without any core and whispering instead of mezza voci singing. Mezzo would be better as Disinganno. This countertenor has no low notes and sounds very constricted. I really like vivid Rene Jacob's interpretation and work with tempo. Thanks a lot, all artists, Ambronay Festival and Harmonia Mundi for this interesting experience.
