Thodisi ghalat information mili hai aap logon ko. Lokmanya Tilak has started this festival as a ‘public festival’ in Pune in 1893. The reason was to reduce the drift between Hindus and Muslims of undivided India. So basically concept ye tha ki sab eksaath participate karenge to najdikiyan badhengi. Later entire Maharashtra has started celebrating it ‘publicly’ and now it is celebrated through out India. Aisa nahi hai ki 1893 se pehele ye celebrate nahi kiya jata tha. But celebration was limited up to installing the idol at home.
