If you haven't been to Valor Ridge....GO! Don't wait I've been twice rifleman and pistol craft...you will not regret it. I can guarantee you...you will leave a better shooter with a better mindset on how to handle a firearm. Reid has a way of teaching that anyone can follow and he leaves no student behind. I remember this young lady in pistol craft..she wasn't as big as a hummingbird... but let me tell you by day 2 she was a badass. Seriously folks just go...the man knows his business, and the way things are going it may just save your life..or your families. I'm an old infantry soldier and I was shooting better after rifleman than when I was in the Army.

After going to both of those training facilities, and being raised by my WWII Marine Corps veteran grandpa, I can say I greatly appreciate quality instruction. Every teacher brings their own style, concepts, drills and training regimen. You pick up something different from all of them, and they all bring their own attributes to the table. Thanks for selling me on taking a course a Valor Ridge. Now I have to save the cash for travel and training. 🤬🤣
Looking forward to it. One of my homies is an instructor there who travels 2 states just to come and help students and he helps me out a lot from across the country.. Im shooting for the middle of this year. But with all of the different focuses hes bringing to his curriculum, its going to be hard to pick a particular class/weekend.
While in the Corps, they told us that Marines should be able to hit a man size target at 500 yards. No talk about MOA, or having small groups, just so that the target goes down. In my mind, that first shot is the most important one. It has to count, as once you have pulled the trigger, you have given your position away.
@@point177 Exactly, even if it's just psychological. That's still a great way to spend rounds. Gunny Hathcock's example pinning down an enemy company with sporadic sniper fire is instructive. Good distinction!
The problem is most people don't understand "combat accuracy". They think shooting a wild group on a man-sized target is minute of man. You do need to have good fundamentals and an understanding that under combat stress your ability to practice perfect fundamentals goes out the window and your groups open up significantly.
@@hunterkiller232134 I've always considered "combat accuracy" to be able to place a shot on a man-sized target in a high value area, hitting a man on the outer portion of his bicep isn't combat accuracy, hitting hiting him in the heart or lungs IS, I think of it like when I hunt deer, I want to cause as much damage with every single shot I fire, if I can hit center-chest I'm happy.

@@bjornegan6421 you can during a static and controlled environment however during a dynamic chaotic environment you won't be able to. I don't practice (when ammo was available) static environments because those just aren't real outside of a shooting range. I have even thought about making a remote control air soft gun that would be aimed at me. A buddy could sit behind me and control when, how fast it fires as I try aquire the target. Get hit by a pellet it's a fail, start over and repeat until my mind, eyes and trigger finger learn to work much faster to avoid getting shot. Closest we can get to real live fire combat and not end up dead. The more remotely controlled air soft guns the better.
the sad reality is that most shooters who think they can shoot well only shoot from bags / bipod / bench. Take the training wheels off and you’ll get a rude awakening.

Shooting freehanded standing or kneeling is a skill that many of us used as kids in the field. When game was dinner. Being 70 years old now it like most firearm skills is a perishable skill and still needs plenty of practice in the field.

I kind of like the idea of that/those little rifles. Wish they would put irons on it, or just make a scout version. 5.45x39 would be cool too. I just wonder how polymer and ARstyle mag release setup on some of their models will hold up over time.
Jack rabbits are great practice for going from relaxed to shooting at a moving target. I figure if you can plug a rabbit at 50 to 100 yards on a run then a human sized target will be much easier.
Excellent points. Truth. Can't imagine the stress and adrenaline of a real gunfight. Targets get MUCH harder to hit even when gettin the heart rate up.
Reid Henrichs. As I said on your FB page. This is the reason why Don & keep coming back. You don't care if someone can wear a fitted T-shirt. Or can shoot sub moa. All you care about is that we put forth the effort to be better on the last day of class, than we were on the 1st. And we keep working on improving ourselves. To include our health, our fitness. But more importantly our tactics and accuracy.. I will never fit in a fitted T-shirt. But I can hit that target when I have to...
It also doesn't help when people watch other videos made by competition shooters who give their opinion on accuracy based on their competition experience so folks tend to over think on the group size for combat shooting. For me, I take a basic M16A2 clone rifle or my 13.7" AR pistol and shoot mostly steel cased ammo which is more than accurate enough. Shooting targets from 25 yards going up to 100 yards in 25 yard intervals, then from 100-200-300-400. I try to keep 3 to 5 rounds within 10 inches on the silhouette and beyond 200 yards, I like to stay within 15 inches. The closer they are, the more speed and recoil management come into play, the further away it is, the more accuracy comes into play. All about finding that perfect balance of speed and accuracy. Reid seems like he'd be an awesome guy to work with amd learn from, I know I could learn tons from that man, taking a class from him is definitely on my bucket list.
Awesome video Reid, your 100% right all that matters in a gunfight are reasonably well placed hits under stress...I think practicing shooting on the move is also very important as well

I had a guy I used to train with in martial arts and he taught a handgun course for us. There were three targets of various sizes at about 7 yards and I made the group the same size on the 3 inch circle as the 10 inch circle and he just asks me, “Why are you taking so long for the 10 inch?”
Likewise many people can't hold MOA accuracy whilst hunting. Alot of guys i see are shaking and fizzing and often muff there shots when they have an animal in front of them. MOA is strictly for initial sighting in, when in the field i'm only interested in MOD....Minute of Dinner Plate. One in the engine room or center mass is one on the ground and more than sufficient. If they drop, its job done!

Thank you for this video. Been writing this for years. It's just as bad with handguns too with accuracy expectations. Most modern firearms are mechanically more accurate than the shooter.
I don’t buy many books, because I simply am too busy running 2 corporations to ingest books. But this time, I’m making a major exception and will be buying and reading this book front to back. Reid did a multi part video series on “The fighting mindset of our founding fathers”, episodes 1-6 and sadly, he did it back in the Yeager days and it’s fully scrubbed. I can only find part 5, but that video training series was just golden and nothing comes close to the presentation offered. I sincerely wish Reid would redo this series again in a classroom setting like he did. I’ve made this request before but don’t think he Reids comments (intentional corny pun sorry).🙈🙄 If he remade this video series I’d even buy it on DVD. Anyways, need to go find a link to buy this book. I think it’s on the website.
Most people forced to use their rifle defensively will likely fire from very short range. Training to stop home invaders or deal with civil unrest should be most of our focus. Nice video!

Accuracy decreases as the incoming rounds increase. Great practicality, Reid.

Recently bought a Ruger American Ranch 7.62x39 rifle. I put a 2moa red dot on it. At 200 yards standing I was able to shoot a 7 inch shot group. 👍
