Splendid job! I didn't realize we hat a massive undertaking the renovation would be. The 2nd floor works much better! The open downstairs living space looks so inviting!
Outstanding work! I miss Kyoto dearly and would love to find a place to buy near my old apartment around Higashino station in Yamashina prefecture. For now, I call Tampa, FL my home.
@@GoodOldHousesJapan did you mention the total price of the renovation? Was it difficult to find carpenters? I'm going to move to Japan in the next year or two, but I'm worried about the cost of trash removal and renovations.
@@gobbluth6910 In Kyoto city there are plenty of contractors/carpenters to help with the renovation. The total cost of renovation for my place was about 22-23mill yen.
It`s nice and I love the sunroof in the living room. It`s good to see the old house renovated and incorporate modern technology. If you don`t mind, how much did it cost to renovate the house?
Yes thank you! That little sunroof keeps the room bright and warm :) One of the best decision we made for the renovation (at least for now until it leaks...). The entire renovation was about 22mil yen 2 years ago. I have a video just talking the cost if you are interested.
One thing ive been think about, how easy/hard would it be to buy an abandoned commercial building in Japan ? Sort of interested in getting a building and using it for something, maybe growing specialty crops in it by using hydroponics. Edit: I got interested in it after a Japanese dude bought an abandoned school and started using it as a hostel/coffee roastery
I'm surprised that (since you demolished the inside almost entirely and added a new foundation and roof) that you didn't add modern insulation to help keep the house warmer in the winter.
@GoodOldHousesJapan Hello, you have such a beautiful machiya home for your family! I love to live in a machiya some day as a foreigner, maybe rent one for few months to try out the lifestyle first.
you speak very good english. beautiful, however too much wood polish makes it dark, white always makes it bright and big. still very japanese beautiful.
The wife bought a house in her home town. And in a few years I want an aikiya for summer time. I don't want to do too much renovation and I want something away from kyoto. Osaka is nice and under rated for sure.
Oh Hello :) Is it possible to contact you for a project I have in Japan ? By the way, hope everything is good and I wish you some fun for the renovation ;)

old homes in Kyoto are getting replaced by apartment building so fast, sadly new doesn't mean better.
Congrats on your home!
Beautiful house!
Nicely done

Insulation boards were added under the roof, behind walls and under flooring! The standard package for old house renovation in Japan these days.
you did your kids a solid
This will be interesting..
I'm interested on doing an Akiya house, asap. I'll be in JP this June, let's meet up. Please let me know...

Are you planning on offering any services to help foreigners achieve their dream of owning a home like yours in Japan? :)

What about the heating And AC System

How much it’s cost to renovate the house
I'm a little late but as usual I'm interested in what this renovation cost since I plan to do the same thing hopefully in 2025...
The renovation cost was about 22mil yen in 2021 and would be at least 24~25mil yen now to do the same….
@@GoodOldHousesJapan sounds like labor is cheap in japan.... that doesn't seem like a lot

Is this house connected to the 50hz or the 60hz grid?
It is 60hz grid!
