It makes me feel happy to know that people take care of Korean War era Jeeps. I’m glad people can still witness what my grandfather most likely saw all those years ago!

This is one of if not the best looking M38 I've ever seen. I've restored a few M38A1's many years ago. I really enjoyed seeing this. Tip my lid to the restorer. Great job.

Great job on the M38. As far as a spec M38 there is a lot of things not original. But maybe he wasn't worried about it not being 100% original. I have a m38 that also has a few things not original also. Good job.

01:31 - "it was also considered a direct copy of the Willys CJ3-A..."
Not a "direct copy", though essentially similar, there were several differences. The MC, for instance, had 24 volt waterproof ignition while the CJ3-A was six volt with standard distributor. Random examples of MC were pulled from production, started, and run at idle for twenty minutes while a fire hose was run on the engine full blast. MC had stronger frames, shackle reverse, blackout lighting, various military fittings... .
Also, Willys rhymes with 'Phyllis', not with 'lillies'.

You are absolutely correct on the hood numbers. The jeep is dedicated to my father how's picture is seen on the interior windshield behind the gun rack. The hood number is his WWII serial number and his outfit, the 995 Field Artillery is on the rear bumpers. Thanks for noticing. Best Regards Dennis V.

I put many a mile driving Army jeeps in all types of terrain for many years. They were reliable and trustworthy and it was a danged shame to see them leave active service. I think the modernization was carried too far as the jeeps would fill many roles as well today as they did when l served.

You have the left stick reversed.
      X -
      - X
Left stick forward, right stick back is 2WD high range (pavement mode).
      - -
      X X
Both sticks back - 4WD high.
      - X
      X -
Left stick back, right forward is 4 Low.
Unaltered transfer cases have an internal lockout pin which prevents use of 2WD low range..
Left stick is 'in - out'
Right stick is high - low.

@@kevinbeck9459 No, Ford was subcontractor to Willys for the 'WW2 standard Jeep'.
In competition with American Bantam and Ford, Willys won the contract in 1941 with their superior 134 inch 'Go Devil' engine.
Nearly 360,000 Willys MB (Military, second contract) vehicles were built,
Ford built nearly 280,000 of the GPW (Government, 80" wheelbase, Willys pattern). Both were known to Ordnance as 'Truck, 1/4 Ton, 4X4, G503'.
This 'Jeep' is an M38, all of which were produced by Willys Overland.
